We went there on recommendation on their first night. It is difficult to find but you just have to go by the numbers! on each of the businesses until you get to 236! On night one it was quiet but there were people there drinking. It is more a wine bar than a restaurant but they do have food. We had a relaxing time looking at the wonderful murals and went into the back room to see the paintings in there. There is a large range of wines including some French. Not too expensive and a beautiful place to go to relax and chat.

Ocean Blu has been in Petersham for about six months and will close soon unless it receives more visitors. It is a most fantastic place if you like sushi and other Japanese food. I am very much taken by their fish and chips. It is difficult to get a decent fish and chips anywhere around Petersham but the fish here is really well done with a crispy batter. The chips are to die for and so is the sushi. Well worth the visit even if the place is open for only a month longer. They do takeaway and delivery. It is 1st.April as I write today. It may be closed by 1st.May.

This review is for The Royal Botanical, Leichhardt NSW

The Royal Hotel is not just a pub/hotel but has a superb restaurant upstairs called the Botanical. After renovations this modern looking eatery is very welcoming. It is lovely and cool sitting on the balcony and has a small view of the City. I found that $18 for a very small salad was disappointing while those accompanying me had huge plates of meat, fish and chips for only a few dollars more. However, the food was good and worth the visit and well worth a return visit. For a Monday evening it was very busy and the service was pretty fast considering.

This review is for Doyles On The Beach, Watsons Bay NSW

After a seven year absence I took elderly overseas' visitors to Doyle's On the Beach at Watson's Bay. These old friends (nearly 80!) come to Sydney every five years or so and that's where they like to go, nowhere else! It started badly as they can't walk too well. From the car park we walked down a floor to the restaurant where we were made to walk outside along the beach to the queue to wait to be seated! We were then taken back upstairs to our table. Not the best beginning for two elderly people who can't walk very well!
However, seated with a beautiful view our fantastic food arrived so quickly! The place was absolutely full to bursting yet our food arrived within five minutes of ordering, "quicker than having to wait for the table" to quote my friends.
Often described as "expensive fish and chips" the quality had certainly got better since my previous visit. Yes, it is a lot of money but $40 for an average main fish and chips was really worth it. Other dishes were about the same price but the Fisherman's basket/platter is heaps more at about $170 for two. All well worth it!
The best part of the view, the afternoon, experience is that they are not in any hurry for you to leave. We were able to talk the afternoon away and for a 1PM lunch we walked out at 5PM!
Excellent experience and they had even saved us a parking spot in the car park!

This review is for Petersham Bowling Club, Petersham NSW

Don't go on a Friday night if you don't like loud music and noise!!!Otherwise this is a fantastic place to go to on a Friday with children and friends. Other days it is not so busy but there are other events during the week and weekend.
Many years ago the "Bowlo" was under threat of closure. A handful of local parents/families got together to do fund raisers and run the place. People started coming back and particularly families. With money coming in and a few council grants the place is now a dynamic and vibrant meeting place.
Various people have run the bistro over the years and the present people running it do an excellent job. If you like pizza and simple food it is an enjoyable place to eat.
Unfortunately there is no steak and chips but this is certainly not an issue when you have fantastic bar staff and bistro staff. It is like a big family connection and meeting place. Pizzas from about $15 and specials a bit more. Children's food from about $5 plus drinks, of course!

This review is for The Hungry Monkey, Kiama NSW

verified email - 28 Jan 2017

The Hungry Monkey is new in Kiama but has had instant success and reviews. It is open from 6.30 for breakfast and then lunch and then dinner. We got confused as we went there first for dinner and were welcomed as if in a restaurant. We were shown to a table, seated, given menus, order taken etc.etc. When we went for lunch on another day we expected the same treatment. It was not made clear that we had to seat ourselves and get our own menus and go to a not so obvious counter, order and pay. It was a busy day and a little annoying.
However, The Hungry Monkey sells itself with excellent food and drinks. It's not cheap so be careful what you order! Most dishes are are around $12 but if you order sides then it gets towards $20. Add a few drinks and you are well over a hundred dollars for a family. It is worth it as the quality and taste of the food is priceless.
Online reviews average 4.5/5 which is still pretty good.

This was previously a dress shop that has opened up as a very small cafe that sells dresses and other things as well as doing massages, nails etc. Unlike a lot of cafes on the main strip it is small and often empty. The service is fast and there are some fantastic snack meals available and excellent coffee. It has only been open for six or so weeks but is worth a visit if you want a place to hide away and talk or read a book in a quiet unrushed atmosphere. It will, hopefully, get a website, a telephone and business cards. Well worth the visit. $3.50 for coffee and a good feed for $12+

This review is for One Penny Red, Summer Hill NSW

verified email - 05 Dec 2016

This is a fantastic venue in the old Post Office at Summer Hill and well worth the visit. The food is quite different but quite enjoyable. My daughter tried the broccoli but didn't like it. My partner had a meat dish that was excellent and I had the salad that was excellent. Everything seems to revolve around potatoes but, somehow, we avoided any potatoes! For two big birthday girls this was an excellent location and excellent atmosphere. We had been warned before coming that it would be expensive. However, I was shocked! I normally order a salad as a main and am charged a supplement. My salad was charged to me as two salads. I would rarely pay more than ten dollars for a glass of wine so, be warned, the drinks are very expensive. There must have been a misunderstanding somewhere as we waited and waited for dessert and were not offered a dessert menu. In the end I got up and went and paid. Beware also that you pay 1.5% surcharge for credit cards. Not very much but had I paid by credit card, this very small dinner for three would have gone over the $100 mark. Am I being too critical? It is an excellent venue, full on the weekends and must be doing something right. We had an enjoyable evening but will not be returning.

This review is for West Village, Petersham NSW

West Village used to be the WHITE COCKATOO hotel and changed hands sometime in 2014/2015. It has a great open area for drinking and for eating,. It is pleasant in the day time for lunch but pretty crowded and noisy in the evening. Go early! Reviews on their website don't do it enough credit. Saturday evening after 7PM is not the time to go for a relaxed quiet dinner! The food is good and the service was fast but the floor and tables had not been cleaned since the afternoon service. However, it was an enjoyable experience. It gets busy and noisy and is more the place for a good drink in the evening than a quiet dinner.

This review is for Sydney Tower 360 Restaurant, Sydney NSW

verified email - 24 Sep 2016

I hadn't been to the Sydney Centrepoint restaurant for years. It has to be for a special occasion as it is $85 for two courses and $95 for three courses. It is like an adventure making the booking, getting there and then going up in the elevator to the very top of the tower.
It is absolutely amazing to be so high and to see the view while having a superb dinner. The tower revolves and takes just under one hour to go all the way round.
As we had arrived early we were seated in the bar where you can really look out and see Sydney. At table you have to look sideways to spot the landmarks.
Our host was a charming young man called Lorenzo. I cannot speak more highly of how he looked after us. He must have been serving at least ten other tables and was rushed off his feet but he took the time to talk with us about our experience and serve us with the most fantastic food ever!
Yes, we were paying a lot of money and, yes, I would expect first class food and service and that is what we got. No rush, no long waiting, I felt like royalty.
The menu is limited but not so limited that you can't choose something you really like. The antipasti for two was enough for three or four and the best toasted bread I have ever tasted. The mains were sufficient but with modern cuisine it looks more like a pea on a plate! I felt I had to order chips on the side but I will never understand why one must pay extra for chips and vegetables. The main courses never seem to come with anything! My beef was so filling and had a lot of taste. The duck was out of this world and the chick pea (for vegetarians and vegans) was light but full of flavours. For dessert we shared a sweet potato dessert with ice cream.
We were there for two complete turns of the tower so this whole experience was not rushed at all. It was a very busy evening. I would suggest going in the week. Despite the busyness of the place it was very enjoyable.
Lorenzo, our host, deserves so much credit. He took so much care of us and the time to talk to us at length at the end. He even took photos. for us!
All the staff were excellent, service the best and it was rather sad leaving.
This is a place for a real treat but, if you book and choose just to be in the bar area you can get food there at about a quarter of the price! However, it's not the same dining experience.
For three and with a bottle of champagne the whole thing came to $323 including $11 for the bowl of chips on the side!
Lorenzo, you really made it for us on the night!
