This review is for Cafe Ism, Newtown NSW

This is a local Newtown cafe, off the main drag, so has a bit more of a neighbourhood vibe. That doesnt mean that it is quiet. On the weekends, cafe ism gets pretty busy, filling tables inside and out. Its kid and dog friendly also, which is good. We had brunch on a saturday. There was a good menu, lots of options and fairly well priced. The food was good. generous, with free range eggs, and the pancakes/hotcakes looked amazing!. Its a nice local stop, an excellent options if you want to avoid king street and perfect if you are visiting the park. yes, a repeat would be good

it started off well. Very busy , large restaurant in the club. We seemed to be the ring-ins. Lots of large groups, parties and so on. There was a dance floor and the expectation of live music....the menu was limited and we were 'encouraged' to have the banquet,. Fine, happy to go with the flow...but! disappointing. The dips were sparse, the meat a little tough and the seafood was boiled/steamed (not sure about others, but i can do that myself, cook it using your expertise please!) i accept that maybe we didnt chose wisely, but there wasnot that many options. overall, food was ok, but prefer corinthian down the road- better food, more choice and much better value.

This review is for Wahoo Diner, Newtown NSW

The Wahoo diner is a mod -jap place opened by the same people that owned Iiza (the japanese restaurant previously on the same site). so same people, different vibe. Its deconstructed modern cuisine- think pesto agedashi, and make your own maki rolls. Whether it appeals depends upon your personal taste. Don't be put off by the menu in the window, the food on offer is a little more extensive. It was ok- some things we ordered (the noodle salad) were great. others...not so good. the house made sauces were really good. Overall, kinda good, but too pricey if you are really hungry. The most off putting thing is the charge of $5 for a very small bowl of rice....($20 for rice for 4 people?, i can buy 1-2 kg for that!!)

50 minutes for a $11 sandwich on sat at 11.30? (not quite peak breaky/not quite lunch)? there was only 2 other tables taken when we arrived. We had a melt, a toasted foccacia and a sandwich and waited over 50 minute for the food. long, painful, expensive ($!! for a tinned fish sandwich?, 17$ for a melt?). never again.

This review is for Grill'd, Charlestown NSW

as far as franchises go, i have no idea how Grill'd rates. I have been to a few but had different things so cant directly compare. i went to Grill'd with my (elderly) parents and they , very surprisingly, loved it. I had a vege burger , but had a giant mushroom instead of the vege patty, added pineapple- it was fantastic!. we also had a std beef burger and the tropical option. Over all a good meal. busy place, but fast, fresh, lovely staff and a good option when craving a burger.

This review is for The Locale, New Lambton NSW

'ok, but def not wow' a very apt description. locale was packed and definitely looked like the place to be. The food , though, i found fairly average and i was a bit put out by the fact that they would not alter any of the menu at peak times. really?, what about food allergies? the menu was ok. on the pricey side, but the food was nice. It was ok, but i reckon traded on atmosphere more than anything else. Not a repeat for me.

This is a cafe that also sells whole cakes. I've bought a few of the cakes and they are really good- fresh and yummy, the caramel sponge and the white forrest cake are my favourites. My friend likes the mud cakes. They have them ready to buy but if you want something special you can order them. The coffee is good here also, and there are good deals, like $2 coffees and a coffee cake deal for $4.00.

A new coffee option at Broadway shopping centre, this place is where michaels patrisserie used to be on the ground floor. The coffee is that standard price- $3.50-$4.00 but i reckon its pretty good- better than the other coffees i have had at broadway (and i think ive tried most) . the service is quick and pleasant. worth a try.

This review is for Thai La-Ong, Newtown NSW

verified email - 16 Feb 2014

its confusing there are 2 thai la-ongs - the original and thai la ong 2. the menu is the same, but having eaten at both i prefer this one. The food seems slightly tastier, more colourful and a bit more generous. Excellent lunch deals at $7, you cant go wrong. Definitely back again for me.

This review is for Thai La Ong 2, Newtown NSW

i know, i know, another thai restaurant in newtown. I had lunch here today and for $7 per meal its a bargain. you get lots of vegies, good serves of meat and its tasty to boot!. it was still very busy at 3.15 which is a good sign considering the competition. same menu as thai la-ong (1), but not quite as tasty in my opinion.
