This shop is tucked just a little way up a side street off the main tourist eatery area of Nelson place, don't know why I hadn't been here before, except there's an awesome pizza place across the road.

But had a very nice satay burger combo with drink and chips for $11 - big size burger and very tasty. Service was friendly and you can sit in or nice tables on the very pleasant street area. Burgers are very large so no problems there - not the greatest I've ever had but certainly up there. Plenty of others on the menu to choose from as well. All made fresh straight for you and with good quality meat and very nice bun. Will be back and bring some friends.

What a delight indeed to find an honest-to-goodness real take-away food shop worthy of a bustling country town. And by that I mean fresh, just-made food, good value and generous serving. All your favourites - pizza, chips, potato cakes etc in an atmosphere you can relax in. Just sit down and enjoy.

Staff were friendly and chatty, not keen to just serve you and go on to the next person. I'll definitely be coming back here. On this occasion had the margharita and spicy chicken slice - both very nice, at only $2.50.
A definite find in the middle of the city.

This review is for Poseidon Fish And Chips, Ararat VIC

On a recent trip out of the city to this area, we stopped for a meal of fish and chips in Ararat. Poseidon fish and chips is a new business here. I remember there used to be a sort of milk bar takeaway place in this shop before. Nice location near a small recreation area around the corner or you could take it to the nearby Alexandra Gardens park.

Lovely people willing to have a chat about their area and very fresh, nice-tasting fish and crisp chips. Good sized portions. Usual range of menu items and prices weren't inflated for a country area. Certainly worth stopping at if you're hungry while in Ararat.

This large pet supplies shop has opened in the new complex with Bunnings and Officeworks in Millers Road. You go in via the intersection but the parking is very limited in the area of the pet shop and others.

It's a large blue shop, invitingly laid out with everything you could imagine for all types of pets. Dogs and cats of course, take priority, but there are items for small rodents, birds, fish etc as well. Toys, food, cages etc and more.

They have their own in-store vet and at the moment you can book for a check up and vaccinations for $50. There is also a dog bathing and grooming area and pet classes as well as other services.

I got some cat food which was cheaper in bulk and a new house for guinea pigs at a good price. They also have a loyalty card to sign up for specials. Very pleasant staff and will be heading off there to have Christmas photos with as many pets as I can catch and carry! LOL
Certainly recommend popping in and seeing what's available to suit you and your pets.

This review is for Seagulls Nest Club, Newport VIC

This is located right on the corner of Mason St - opposite a taxi rank and Newport station, so no excuses for driving if you've had a few too many. There's limited street parking but a large car park around the back.

Can't speak about the bar and the more "robust" shall we say, patrons who go there for the sport and betting, but the establishment does have another area and it's very nice.

This function room was booked for a work break up of at least 60 people and was separate from the other areas of the Hotel if you aren't into that sort of thing. We had a pleasant time but the only quibble was the quality of the food. Small serve of chips came out first - undercooked - and the parma was accompanied by a small salad. The topping was just okay - I've made better tomato salsa at home. And service was a little slow as if there was only one person cooking.
But all in all, it was made enjoyable by the company and I've been to worse places. Certainly worth another look at some time.

This review is for Mediterranean Pizza And Pasta, Ballan VIC

Made a quick stop here for tea on our weekend away. I think this is a fairly new shop here in this pleasant town. There are all the traditional pizzas on offer as well as pasta and the sizes of pizza are called small, medium and family but really it's just a large. $10 - 15 price ranges.

Certainly nothing to complain about in the taste and texture of our Margharita or half Hawaiian and half Meat Lovers pizzas - good base and lots of topping.

Waiting time wasn't long and friendly staff. Would come again if up this way.

This review is for Acacia Caravan Park, Ararat VIC

A lovely break away was spent at Acacia caravan park in one of the very comfortable cabins which are well laid out and furnished with everything you'll need. Stayed in a similar cabin at another park, but this one seemed newer and the bedroom was not so cramped. Main bedroom has bedding on double bed, kids room you need to take sleeping bags etc - comfortable seating and equipped kitchen. There are also caravan sites but not too many - being a smaller park adds to its charm and convenience and there's also a camping area for tents. A cabin at around $100 with comfort is good value compared to about half that much for a site when you've got more than one person and no hassle of putting up or taking down a tent. Pets are allowed on sites but not in cabins.

Attractive children's play area and fenced pool and the whole park is neat and tidy at all times. There's a camp kitchen and free BBQ's and lots of trees for shade. Very friendly and obliging owners and it was very easy to book on line as well.
The location is great because you're so close to Ararat itself and the lovely old building and historic opportunities there as well as a good base for touring around.

Definitely will be coming back for a longer stay with more family members next time.

I agree this place is a little tricky to get to, but we certainly enjoyed our visit and would come again. The decoration and atmosphere is very nice and the wait staff are so friendly and helpful, that really made a difference when ordering things you're unsure of.

The serving sizes are very large, so if the food lacks a tiny bit in the quality - at around $20 a serve it certainly makes up for in quantity. Though I had no fault to find with the rice dishes or satay sticks which were under $10. Outdoor balcony was pleasant and really, this is a bit of a find in the inner city. Busy at night of course ,but lunchtime usually quite good.

Looking forward to try some crispy chicken or a sweet and sour next time - shared some of my friend's and it was very tasty.

Also a bar there for people who want alcohol.
All in all, a thumbs up for this place.

This review is for Souva Stop, Williamstown VIC

If you want something different in take-away options in Williamstown, try Souva Stop (Souvlaki shop) in Williamstown opposite the pleasant Commonwealth Reserve. It's a little tricky as it's located at the back in the courtyard of Alexander's restaurant and the entrance is actually from Cole St around the corner. Seating is outside.

Big menu of Souvlaki dishes - Moroccan, Tropical, Vegetarian, and a cheese and tomato one for kids. The Zeus one with lamb, tzatziki, lettuce, chips, tomato and onion was very nice except the chips were a little strange and the wrapping fell apart really easily. You can also get extras like chicken wings and corn. A few sweets too like Spanish doughnuts which were also very nice but maybe too much cinnamon.
Souvlaki's around $9, other items around $5.

Definitely something interesting and different and I think we'd certainly be back.

This is not "restaurant experience" pizza, but then again, I wasn't expecting it to be. It was a quick stop in a convenient location with car park around and several other fast food shops in the vicinity.

The couple in there were very friendly and obliging and made waiting for the pizza seem a very short time. I think they have a standard collection of toppings at Bubba Pizza, but having said that, there is still a great variety to choose from. A traditional menu and a gourmet selection a well as salads, schnitzel etc. It was great for a quick filling meal - hot, good value for two large pizzas, garlic bread and bottle of soft drink for under $24. As a change from my usual chicken or capricciosa next time I'm going to try the Outback - Spiced beef, bacon, pineapple, egg and BBQ sauce.
Give them a try if you're down this way.
