I bought some takeaway nori rolls from here yesterday which were bland and boring taste-wise, except for a pervading bad fishy smell and taste (even though neither of the rolls had raw fish in them). My chilli squid roll had no spiciness at all and the avocado in the vegetarian roll was as mushy as baby food. I could only eat half of each roll before the fishy smell and gluggy texture made me gag. Really disappointing, especially since I bought them in the early afternoon when they should have been fresh and well-made. I definitely won't bother with this place again.

A fantastic little place for consistently fine coffee and light food. The design I love: small, intimate and industrial yet somehow airy at the same time. Some might not find the layout private enough, but it's only a teeny tiny place.

The staff here seriously know their coffee shit, and without fail make it beautifully every time. The menu is small but also consistently good, with mostly Leb-style stuff done with top-quality ingredients (I think mostly made from scratch?) like za'atar pizza with labne and rocket. Food-wise, if you're after a filling lunch this is probably not the place, but for a snack or light meal it's just right.

It was about time Moonee Ponds started upping the game when it comes to coffee. The keyword for Nabiha is just consistency, consistency, consistency; everything they do is perfect every time, and they really take pride in that.

I belong to one of those email lists where you get special deals, and was offered one for a cut, colour, treatment and blow-dry at Boda. I'd never been there but the other reviews on WOMOW made my mind up for me, and then Boda went and totally exceeded my expectations.

I was made to feel totally comfortable and at ease, was served a coffee and had a consultation about what I wanted from the appointment, and then had my hair washed and given an awesome head massage for 15 minutes.

Angie (the owner) did my cut, and I was thoroughly impressed by the depth of her understanding of cuts and commitment to giving me a great CUT (not just styling my hair), and her easygoing professionalism. Even though I wouldn't normally go to such a high-end salon I didn't feel I was being judged like the very few other times I've forked out a lot, completely the opposite. And the products she uses & sells are really high quality, and she's happy to talk to you very knowledgeably about why.

This place is kind of beyond my budget in ordinary circumstances, but I will definitely be saving up to go back next time I want a proper cut and pamper, rather than just a trim.

Boucla is such a unique place for Perth. It's a cave that's absolutely filled to the brim with mostly middle eastern bric-a-brac, rugs, incense, artwork... It feels like shisha would be fitting, but unfortunately they don't do it.

The coffee is really impeccable, and they have a good range of well-made, out-of-the-ordinary sweet things to go with it. Prices are what you can expect to pay for such awesomeness and quality, except that the coffees, I believe, are $3, which is almost unheard of in Perth.

The main impression that Boucla always leaves me with is the SMELL – the mixture of coffee beans, musky incense, dustiness and warm, lovely sweets. A really great place for an intimate little get-together, or a solo coffee or 3 with a book, sitting tucked away in the funny little cushion-lined courtyard thing.

The outside area of the Cap S is really chilled out and great - bougainvillea clambering all over the place, different paved levels, outdoor heaters on chilly evenings. The previous reviewer said they heard it was a student pub, but I'm not too sure about that - in my experience just postgrads, not quite the um, rowdiest students. Although you'd expect from the outside that it would be mostly populated by middle aged western suburbanites out for a relaxed drink, but it tends to be the other kind of Claremont dweller, the loud, overly-groomed, young social climber all too eager to advertise their presence to everyone around, and then get smashed. They can get pretty annoying, but tend to stick around inside near the big flat screen TVs so are easy to avoid.

The food here seems to be a bit hit and miss. The pizzas are great - thin, slightly charred crust, just the right amount of toppings, good price for what you get. Have had them several times and always good. But the desserts, at least on this night, were awful. Mini apple pies microwaved straight out of the Sara Lee packet, and the same for the sticky date pudding, both decorated with a silly-looking zigzag of chocolate sauce that only highlighted the terrible quality. These are absolutely standard fancy-pub desserts, so it's embarrassing that the Cap S does them so badly. Beers are fine, standard range and pricing for this type of place.

Basically a good place for an afternoon/evening beer and maybe some pizza. Avoid weekend nights if you can't stand aforementioned Western suburb yuppies.

This used to be a dodgy dive bar called KK's, and was my local. When it changed hands and started getting re-done I was interested, but this new place is just horrible. Food is OK - standard pub stuff except it wishes it were gastropub stuff, a bit pretentious for the pretty ordinary quality of ingredients. Even when the music is tuned to a normal volume it bounces off the polished concrete floors and sounds unpleasant and harsh, which is the very first impression you get 'cos you can hear it throughout the surrounding shopping centre.

It's sad that the new owner wanted to get rid of the only student pub around here (apart from the one on campus, which isn't open much), and try to court the yuppies of the Western suburbs instead. The result is a brash, pretentious place with no charm at all. I'm glad I don't live around here anymore and have a much nicer local in walking distance.

Disclaimer: I worked here for a while quite a few years ago. BUT since then I've been here a lot, with no special prices or perks. It just means I know a lot about the products, and how they're made.

The lunch rolls are really fresh and well-made. There's a big range, with a few different types of roll/sandwich and several varieties of each. The parisiennes are insanely popular but there are other kinds that are a lot more filling. These are all very well priced (around $5-$8).

The pastry is classic and generally perfect, especially the plain croissants. The breads are pretty good but I always found that they go dry and stale very quickly, even when left uncut. (Except for the 100% rye, a dense, moist, lovely brick that gets better with time. I hope they still do it.) The full-size baguettes are ACTUAL full-size baguettes, not like the demi-baguettes that most bakeries insist are full size and price as such. It really pisses me off every time I see this, and the fact that they do proper ones here just seems... well, honorable. These, I think, are the star of their breads. Super-crusty outside, fluffy but not too airy inside.

Pretty good range of large cakes/tarts, and some extra special made-to-order cakes that are exquisite but very expensive. 3+ years ago they also did special occasion croque-en-bouche, not sure if they still do but they were the best I've ever seen.

Service has always been excellent. When I was there JC was always adamant about the "girls" at the front being impeccably friendly, obliging and having close knowledge of product ingredients, and high standards are self-perpetuating.

This was a pretty regular lunch destination while I was at UWA. Students take note: The filled rolls here are big, crusty, very generous and very fresh, and they cost around the same amount or less ($6-$8) than a plate of scungy bain-marie food from the Reid Cafe or the Ref. This is not to say their food would only impress students. Everything I've eaten from here has been absolutely top quality. As well as the rolls I would especially recommend the rosemary flatbread, and for sweets, the plain croissants or the choc-orange brioche. My only quibble would be that what they call (and price as) a "full size baguette", to any self-respecting baker or French person is most definitely a demi baguette (go to Chez Jean-Claude for a proper baguette).
