This beautiful Art Deco cinema is a Perth treasure. Everything from the facade to the candybar is a step back in time. (Even the decor in the Ladies'..) Thankfully the cinema is heritage listed and cannot be altered.
Great bistro in Nowra for lunch or dinner ... simple food cooked well, great service and value. The menu is typical 'pub fare' and there is absolutely nothing wrong with a chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce if eaten at the Postman's! Yum.
Beautiful decor, with glass doors that open onto the street. I went here for breakfast with a friend and enjoyed the tajine. Just the perfect amount of spice...
The Blue Gum is a good place to head to for a weekend lunch - evenings get a bit busy - they do a very good steak, or even better, you can cook your own on the BBQ. Good selection of wines by the glass, good parking. Near the train station so you don't get caught by Mr Plod on the way home :)
Toby Gilmour owns this business and is a great tradesman and handyman. He is the preferred tradesman for our apartment building and I have also used his services for jobs at my home, including painting, plastering, furniture assembly, hanging doors. He quotes reasonably but more importantly, does an excellent job and always arrives on time. I am happy to recommend Toby to anyone needing a handyman on the north shore.
A beautiful & cosy little guesthouse with a lot of history (Don Bradman stayed here). Owner Bridget O'Brien is welcoming and friendly and cooks a great English breakfast. Winter is the best time to visit, with the log fire roaring and complementary port in the lounge room, with its good selection of books. Each room has a different feel so call when booking and explain what you are after (room for a family, spa, cosy etc). There's a bush walking track nearby and some good local restaurants, which Bridget is happy to advise on.
Approximate cost: $190 /night inc full English breakfast
This is a good little corner store and if you are entertaining the "far aisle" - nearest the deli counter - is a winner... who knew that the local IGA stocked gourmet goodies?
This must be one of the best regional hotels / motels. The staff are helpful, friendly and the restaurant (Fleurs) has won many catering awards and can easily compete with any Sydney restaurant (without the attitude!). The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Great place for either a business trip or holiday.
There are 2 Comfort Inns on Cobra St, this establishment (also known as Dubbo City Motor Inn) should not be confused with Comfort Inn Blue Lagoon at 79 Cobra St. I wished my company's travel agent had booked me into the latter! The sense of foreboding when driving into the carpark (shoddy looking motel, piles of rubbish at the back of the carpark) did not abate when I stepped into "reception". At first I thought they must be shut ... so dark was the place. Finally a barefoot, sweaty proprietor emerged to give me my room key. As for the room... the wardrobe stunk so I did not place my clothes inside, bathroom wall was dirty. The key kept getting stuck in the lock and when I went for assistance the guy was quite rude. I had dinner at the aforementioned Blue Lagoon (there is no restaurant at this place and no way would I eat there anyway!). I mentioned where I was staying to the waiter; he gave me a look that told me that 57 Cobra St is well known as NOT being the place to stay!!
Approximate cost: $can't recall, but too much for this dive!
I checked out this motel before booking in and asked to see a standard, basic room. The room I saw was obviously one of their better ones! I also mentioned the night I would be staying and specifically mentioned that the fact that they had a restaurant on-site was a plus. I was therefore very disappointed on checking in to be told that the restaurant was closed as it was being refurbished (this was one week later). Room service was available although the entree arrived burnt. The poor upkeep of the room was disappointing (torn flyscreen, dirty curtain, wonky table, chips taken out of the wall) but I am still scratching my head over the "tissue dispenser" in the bathroom. What was provided was not facial tissues but sheets of toilet tissue! I am not kidding. If you must stay at this motel ask for one of the rooms at the front (near reception). Don't stay at the back near the restaurant.
Approximate cost: $120
