If you love books, without paying the earth for a stack of them, this online UK bookseller is for you. I have bought from them a number of times and the order always arrives within a week. They have a great range including some now out of print. They ship to Australia for free (even though the books are between 20 - 30% off thr RRP).
This is a good place to head to if you want the necessaries at a good price. Open late. The website gives these opening hours:
Monday - Friday 8.00am - 10.00pm, Saturday 8.00am - 10.00pm, Sunday 8.00am - 10.00pm. They are open every day of the year including public holidays.
Good service and near the train station.
Yum yum yum yum yum. Yeah it's kitschy but who cares? The food is beautiful and as for value - if lunching here you will not be thinking about dinner! The schnitzel with jaeger sauce...
Damn good poached eggs so that wins me over! Do love a brekky out and the eggs, bacon and balsamic tomatoes are worth getting out of bed for. Good teas and coffees. Slightly better prices (and WAY better service) than the over-rated Coonanbarra Cafe. It does get noisy and the tables are small (2 people per table when the food arrives does get a bit squished) but the food arrives promptly - I don't know how the young chef does her thing in such a tiny kitchen.
There are more coffee shops in Wahroonga than 4WDs (OK not maybe not) and this is the best place to have coffee. Newspapers available; the only drawback is the narrow shop gets a little noisy and if you are seated at the table near the register you sometimes end up with someone's derriere in your face as they place an order. Never mind.
I do like a Whopper with cheese, I really do. Tastes like a proper burger and not the manufactured stuff from that other joint. But WHY in the name of crikey can they not stop themselves from getting the tomato sauce and mayo all over the outside of the ruddy bun? How is one supposed to eat that tidily? HJ's at Hornsby is even worse and their burgers are often cold. Lift ur game people, making burgers ain't difficult. (PS I made burgers in my after school job, it ain't hard...)
This pharmacy might be convenient but they are way overpriced (e.g. $27 for a 2-bottle contact lens solution pack which costs $14 - $15 elsewhere!!) I'm sure this is because they are open until 9pm so know that people coming in late have no other choice. The female pharmacist who runs this business is just plain rude. I have had to come here not just recently but some years back so it is not a recent glitch. She is a rude person (once arrived 5 minutes before advertised closing and could see my father and I outside but totally ignored). If you need something late, try Pharmacy 4 Less at Hornsby they are open until 9pm - 10pm most days and prices are what they should be.
Approximate cost: $Don't pay what they ask!!
Good option for when you're getting home from work late... prices too high for the serving size. It gets busy around dinner time with people standing out in the footpath to avoid pushing in.They really need to think about a ticketing system.
When first walking in this seems like a very average little suburban eatery. There's only 3 tables plus the counter where you can eat and watch the chef at work. But the food is very good; an excellent selection of bento boxes, sushi, sashimi and teriyaki. You'll need to book as this place is really popular and gets packed every night. Great value! Must have a very well organised kitchen back there!
Very bloody funny to hear Mr Gerry Harvey whinge and carry on about the demise of the retailer and the unfairness of internet trading. Gerry, it's not about price so much as CUSTOMER SERVICE. Or the general lack there-of. I went to HN Gordon to TRY to buy a new TV. I tried, God help me I did. Spent about 20 minutes being completely ignored by the the "sales"people who were busy doing heavens knows what. In this time I measured up and checked the specs of the various models on display so obviously not tyre-kicking. In the end I gave up and went to The Good Guys at Artarmon where a very helpful chap by the name of Peter sold me a more expensive TV than the one I was considering at HN. So much for price, Gerry. Once again, just in case you missed the point: CUSTOMER SERVICE.
