This is a really well presented restaurant, but at the end of the day, the value was simply not there - three of the four of us selected burgers and were disappointed with the quality of the patties - they just seem to have been the stock standard burger pattie that lack any evidence of being handmade at the premises. Big serving sizes, no doubt, but this is undone if the food itself is not outstanding. The fact that kids ate free at that time (Tuesday evening) was a bit of a redemption, but not much.

After having dined at the same chain two nights before, I knew what to expect - but this time, instead of ordering a burger, it was a Sparrow's Steak. The steak was quite good, the chips were well done and the salad was edible - overall an acceptable meal, but disappointing that you have to fork out $3 for a basic sauce. Will I go back? Not before I try the other local steakhouse!

We've had some serious issues with our ducted airconditioning, and have relied on Oldmate Gas & Plumbing Services from the outset - the service has been first class at all times, and most importantly, we had the air conditioner fixed and were given the right advice to avoid any future issues. Excellent tradesman - highly recommended.

So my watch was in need of a repair, I asked around and thought that Mazzucchelli's would be a safe bet for a quick repair and a good value one. How wrong I was. Despite the appearance of assisting at the shop front, it took a period of two months to have the watch repaired and it was not a cheap experience. The lack of customer liaison was the most disappointing thing - having a $500 watch sitting with these guys for two months was just frustrating to say the least. Their jewellery might be nice, but don't bother if you are in need of watch repair. Disappointed.

The location is classic, the decor is appropriate and the staff are efficient and don't get it wrong. Sure, it's not suited to the metro in all of us, but it's an honest cut and a good price. This place is also open on Saturday mornings I believe....

Ziggy's Market Fresh is more than just a purveyor of fine fruit and veggies - there is some gourmet food to be had as well. While the cost of fruit and veggies is always higher than you'd expect, it is better to go here than one of the big two supermarket chains - you'll be supporting local farmers a little more directly by going with Ziggy's.

This was a favourite for me when at Uni with mates and is now a family favourite - mind you, the numbers of people there is always a bit of a worry, as the quality of the food and the prices are never a disappointment. The original pizza and the zeffirelli sauce pasta are delicious, and the chicken parma delivered a few weeks back for a mate of mine was more a turkey parma (it was massive and was a brilliant meal). Service is always friendly and accommodating for families.

While the days of the your local, independent butcher are all but numbered as a result of the supermarket chains forcing them out of the market, Mike's Meats does its best to keep the spirit alive. Great selection of lamb and beef on offer for us last weekend - the fillet steak was a good price and high quality. The service exceeds anything you'd ever expect at Coles or Woolworths.... Mike's is a good'un!

Last month, we went down the coast to Bateman's Bay, and Berny's was a bit of a must - the place is iconic and as far as fish and chips are involved, it is very good. I can't speak for the oysters, but I can't imagine that it could be better set up, with a dozen for $6! It is better than the competition, is well presented and is not badly priced.

Located next to an icon like Berny's at Batehaven can't be an easy thing for this business, but it more than holds its own - the service was friendly, the portions were generous and the price meant that Sunday lunch was pretty good value. Extra potato scallop thrown in was a nice touch (but not good for my belly!).
