My friend is a flooring installer. He completed 9 flooring installation jobs for Mike’s Carpet Discounters in Nov and Dec 2022 worth $11,564. As of 15th June 2023, none of the jobs have been paid for, despite submitting photographic evidence that the jobs were completed, and despite submitting evidence that the end customers were happy and paid Mike’s Carpet Discounters. This company is unethical. The owner’s son, Nakul ‘Abakan is a thief.

Furthermore, we are now aware of three other flooring installer who have not been paid for six months: owed $53k, $32k and $25k respectively.

Beware when using this business. Our experience with them was very negative to say the least.
We visited Mike’s Carpet Discounters Carrum Downs (MAHAJAN & SONS PTY. LTD.) as we were exploring our options for flooring replacement at our home. First thing that stroke me was the state of the warehouse in Carrums Down (water damage in ceiling - leaking into the actual showroom) however consultants on site were nice. They offered to send someone to our place to quote us (Harsha was his name). He seemed to be friendly and helpful. First red flag was when he asked for a 50% deposit to secure materials based on his calculations before even finalising a formal quote. My wife was very keen as she liked the materials on offer. When I queried Harsha about the 50% deposit required, he advised that the company has so many debtors as people are not paying them after completing their jobs, so now they are asking for 50% upfront. My wife agreed to paying the 50% deposit. That same evening I decided to do some homework and check reviews about this company as what we were told by Harsha didn't seem quiet right . I quickly realised that one should steer away from this company, based on the negative reviews posted here and in other public forums.
We then contacted Mike's carpet the following day requesting a refund. Keep in mind here that we haven't locked in a job, we haven't even received a quote at this stage.
Two days of following up and calls from our end, with no results. I then contacted Harsha who got their accounts team to email us back, only to state that they will charge us a 10% refund processing fee. Outrageous to say the least. These guys advertise free quotes to start with, please remember that we haven't even received a quote here.
We the contacted our bank and disputed the transaction as fraudulent. We received our funds from our bank 45 days later, once the dispute was finalised as this business couldn't provide any evidence to support the charge on our credit card.
In between, there were so many calls and emails from our end where they hung up on us, did not respond to emails, were rude to us and the list is long.
In the meantime, remember to exercise extreme care when dealing with this business.

Excellent value. Excellent service. I had my house recarpeted and the tiled areas replaced with hybrid flooring. Both teams were efficient, professional and accommodating. Both teams did an excellent job. Everything they said they would do was delivered. I am thrilled with the carpet and the new flooring. They also were very helpful with moving the larger pieces of furniture. I would highly recommend them.

Sales person came to home to quote flooring. He reviewed the space, took measurements and gave us a quote on the spot. He stated that because he was giving us such a good discount and we wanted quick installation that we would have to pay $1000 then and there. Unfortunately I paid on the spot and I am still paying for that mistake.

When they came to install the new team said they couldn’t do the job. I have been trying to cancel the job and get a refund for over three weeks. They don’t respond to emails and when I call they simply say the matter has been escalated.

They are cheap for a reason!

Don’t waste your time. I have renovated 3 house and this was the worse company I had have had the displeasure of working with. The house was old and not perfectly square. After months of stuffing around, they conceded that they could not do the job. Many more months later, they have still not returned the thousands that we have paid for them to do the job

I don't recommend this flooring company at all.
The flooring that was ordered was brown and the colour installed was grey. Mike's carpets did not discuss how this could be rectified and insisted that I got what I ordered. I did not. Their installers were not able to see that a Foxtel wire coming out of the floor was partially dismantled, and had already been replaced, and laid the flooring around it result in a hole which they refuse to correct without additional charges. They insisted on a 100% upfront payment: I wish I hadn't done it as they have no loss for not completing the job that I paid them to do.

Mike’s Carpets are deceptive and have owed us a refund since late 2020. Months later and we still have not received the money back.
The told us they could do the job requested, replacing floorboards in laundry, they changed the day three times. Then finally arrived, cut into the floor and promptly decided they couldn’t do the job after all. They then tried to tell us we had lied in the description, to only back down about this later. We had to get the cuts they made fixed and floors done by someone else and they now refuse to contact us about getting the money back even though each time we get through they say they are working on it. Reprehensible behaviour, totally unprofessional and I wouldn’t use them again, and encourage others not to waste their time and money.

it all started when we got our laminate floorboards put down in our brand new house, from the get go it was a mess the installers not showing up on time, and only working a few hours a day which led to our floors taking around 2 weeks to be finished, damaging our tiles in the process in our bathrooms, and honestly looking like they had no idea what they were doing.We had troubles with the floorboards in the first 4 weeks,coming out from under the trim and the boards already moving apart from each other leaving gaps in the floor. trying to get a hold of someone from this company is impossible once they have your money, I had to go down to the store at least 7 times, finally they came and had a look (3 separate times with 3 different installers) all had said it was a very bad install job from the person who did it. mike also admitting that the installer who did my floors (who fled the state mind you) didn't seem to great as at least 3 different jobs he had done are needing to be be redone.finally they came out to replace the boards but then didn't follow through with doing them and said we are going to get the supplier involved because there are to many boards that need to be replaced.(passing the buck) its has been months and months back and forth that it has now been nearly 2 years since first contact and nothing has actually been pulled up and redone, no one will return my calls even when going down to the shop still nothing.
please please do not make the same mistake I did with going with this company !! it is heartbreaking to pay so much for such a crappy job.
