Our family visits Kakulas Bros every couple of weeks and bulk buys so much stock because the prices are the best in Perth and the produce is fresh. The turnover is amazing and the variety is just fantastic! Helpful young staff and friendly owner.

If I need to stock up my pantry I always make my way to Kalkulas, because their prices are unbeatable. That's only possible because they buy in bulk and sell from huge containers (vs packing everything first up) I wouldn't know where I could get my nuts elsewhere for that price. Cash only (with an ATM being just 50 meters outside)

Today I had the worst experience in customer service. I stepped up to the counter at Kakulas, where another customer had just been served and had left. The salesperson had disappeared below the counter, so I waited. Then she stood up, looked beyond me and said "next please". Perplexed I waited till the next customer was served, and again she looked behind me and said "next please".I said "what's wrong, I've been standing here" She replied "you didn't wait to be called" and refused to serve me. I had to pick up my rather heavy bag and move to another employee further down the counter. There was no sign that said wait to be called or to stand behind a line. I did not jump any queue, I did not insist to be served immediately. My 'capital offence' it seemed was that I neglected to wait to be called. For that I was subjected to be treated like an imbecile. To cap it all the lady that was serving me agreed with her that I had to be called to be served. If I had pushed ahead or was abusive I can understand but having been in retail myself for many years I do understand how sometimes the person behind the counter might be stressed. But this easily tops as the WORST experience anyone could have the misfortune to encounter.

Approximate cost: $22.00

Your experience sounds horrible and you're justified in having a negative view of this place. But it seems a bit silly for you to list "uncovered foodstuffs" as one of the negatives, when Kakulas is a BULK foodstuff store. Nothing perishable or moist is ever uncovered, just the bulk cereals & dry legumes, and spices. If you prefer your foods sealed and contained, wouldn't a supermarket be a better place to go? Kakulas wouldn't be Kakulas without the sacks of bulk (= cheap and more environmentally responsible) foodstuffs. If it's not to your taste or hygiene standards, just don't shop there.

This is a retail outlet. If you are after cheap nuts, preserved fruits and meat, cheeses and spices, this is the place to visit. The variety is great and the prices are very competitive. One set back is it is mainly self service and as the food is handled by everyone, the cleanliness is questionable as not all customers follow the rules set.
