Be it known that on June 26, 2023, Spirit conducted what was quaintly referred to as a price restructure. Vehicle fares were raised MASSIVELY. As compensation, Spirit claims they have reduced passenger fares. Yes, BASE passenger fares are now SLIGHTLY cheaper, yet if you take a standard car, you’ll now be stung from $179 to $302 in the winter low season, else $224-$377 at all other times. That’s just the price for a single STANDARD car, one way! If you have a larger car, campervan, or are towing, then you’ll be stung even more. In comparison, standard car prices were a MAXIMUM of $130 prior to June 26. Spirit claim that if you travel as a group of four adults with a car, you’ll now pay 8% less than previously. But who travels in a group of four adults? NO ONE! This is not inflation, this is GREEDflation… If you’ve been a loyal customer (as I have, travelling with them since 1976) this price restructure is their reward and appreciation for you. If you are a new customer, they’ll no doubt be hoping you will be naïve enough and not notice. Well, it might be time to ditch the ferry and fly again. Spirit, owned by the Tasmanian government, is a monopoly that clearly needs to be busted by a competitor service.
