This review is for Cost Less Bolts, Moorabbin VIC

Great place to buy a whole range of fasteners and other tools. Today I purchased 3m of M12 galvanized allthread, 1m M8 galvanised all thread, stainless steel nuts, washers, 2 sutton drill bits all for under $55 - I thought that was a pretty good deal. Especially since I had priced out out the all thread and drill bits at Bunnings and Cost Less Bolts were much cheaper. eg for the Sutton drill bits, Bunnings were $17 and Cost Less Bolts were $12. The sales person was able to help me with a particularly difficult fixing issue that I had (glass to masonry) and provide me with the right bolt for the job.

Approximate cost: $55.00

I bought a pack of 10 tubes for a road bike and for $30 plus postage (about $7), I thought it was a very good deal and much better than using patches or paying $10 per tube at a bike shop. Granted, they are not super lightweight, but they are perfect for training. Tubes arrived in about 5 days.

This review is for Your Thai Rice & Noodle Bar, Melbourne VIC

Definitely recommend if you are after some good thai food at a cheap price.

We used WOMOW (thanks Kate for adding this place) to find this restaurant and ate here before going to see the musical Priscilla (which was great too by the way). Your Thai Rice and Noodle Bar served up some basic but good fare - I had a Chiang Mai Noodle and my wife a Green Curry chicken. Both were very good, with the meat particularly tender. And for $8.50 a dish, it's hard to pass up. We also tried the smoothies, which were more like a Lassi - quite good.

The decor of this place is very modern and with the staff wandering around with pda's ready to take your order, it's not your traditional Thai restaurant. But it seems very popular with locals, particularly the student crowd from nearby RMIT and we'd definitely go there again.

Approximate cost: $8.50

We visited for the first time on Sunday night based on a recommendation from my wife's hairdresser. We were not disappointed. I had a snapper fillet which was beautifully cooked and on the side was a zucchini flower stuffed with a crab meat. Different, but very nice. For desert I had a soft centered chocolate pudding - yum! The rest of the menu looked well worth trying too. Will definitely be back.
Can recommend if you are looking for good food & surrounds at a reasonable price.

This review is for La Porchetta, Heathmont VIC

verified email - 19 Sep 2007

Went to La Porchetta in Heathmont last night for a dinner with some friends and their young kids. It was a Tuesday night and the place was still busy. We had some of their 'gourmet' pizzas and these were quite good, even without factoring in the price. If you consider that you are only paying $14 for a family sized pizza; then it's amazing. We tried the cajun chicken with sour cream, beef with fetta and a vegetarian pizza with potato and pumpkin - definitely recommend this.

Approximate cost: $10-14

We have dogs; two very large dogs to be precise. One dog is good about going to the toilet in the garden, but the other goes all over the lawn. We'd like to train him to go in the garden and ideally one spot. So a while ago I rigged up a small string fence, to direct him to the area I was him to use. However he just ignored this and jumped (maybe even just stepped) over the string. So I decided to get an electric fence and try this instead. Before people label me cruel (as my wife did), I figured I'd only need to leave it on for a few days and then he'd learn.

When you live in suburban Melbourne, buying an electric fence is not easy, so I looked on the internet and found Horsely Joinery, who sold online. I wrote to them about what I was doing and they suggested a Thunderbird mains powered electric fence energizer, wire and some insulated fence post brackets. The smallest size they had was designed to power 5km of fencing, which would do my small back yard fine:)

I paid and received the goods a couple of days later, and rigged up the fence.
A Happy ending? No. The next day the dog started going to the toilet on our porch instead! Back to the drawing board.

This review is for Red Salmon, Wantirna VIC

verified email - 10 Sep 2007

This rating shouldn't be used as an overall guage of Red Salmon, because we didn't spend much time there, however it does serve to illustrate that you can't afford to have poor value food on the menu.

We visited Red Salmon last weekend for a quick bite to eat. The place looks pretty nice and there is an extensive menu. As we just wanted a snack my wife and I shared the dips - warm turkish bread with four dips. Well on the menu it said four dips, but one of them was balsamic vinegar in a clear tasteless oil - I have never had oil like it before and I couldn't work it out what it was at all. But I didn't like it and I didn't like receiving it when I really wanted and was paying for dips. But the bread was good and the 3 dips were also OK.

I didn't complain about the dips to the staff, I just sat there and ate my 3 dips, knowing I'd write it up on WOMOW!

This review is for Phillippa's Breads, Pastries & Provisions, Brighton VIC

verified email - 10 Sep 2007

I rarely give 5 out of 5 for a business, but I think that my favourite business in each category deserves 5 out of 5. Phillipas is definitely my favourite bakery and I especially like the pane toscano either plain or with olives. This bread tastes just like bread does in Italy and France. I am not sure if it is the flour, but there is something very different about it. It's almost creamy in color and texture and there is nothing quite like it that I have found here in Australia.

This review is for Let's Go Dance, Brighton VIC

verified email - 09 Sep 2007

We used Lets go Dance in Brighton to have some dancing lessons before our wedding. It was a fun experience, despite my own two left feet :)
Our teacher set lofty goals for the dance that we would do for our wedding; after a few lessons these were trimmed down a little to something more achievable. I was pretty anxious about it all, however on the night we just forgot about everything we had learnt and boogied away.
But I am glad that we took the lessons and would recommend this place to friends.

Approximate cost: $60 per lesson

This review is for Daylesford Sunday Market, Daylesford VIC

verified email - 04 Sep 2007

Visited the Daylesford Market this weekend and its definitely worth a visit. I got a good coffee (the place also sold those little Dutch pancakes, but as I had just eaten breakfast, I skipped on those) on my way to check out the restoration work that has been done on the old Daylesford Railway station and trains. Pretty impressive stuff - you can also go on rides for $8 return out to nearby Bullarto, about 15 kms away.

The market had a good variety of things for sale from organic vegies to old records, and honey to socks. I liked the sizing of the eggs being sold by one stall holder - Large, Jumbo and Bum Buster!

Approximate cost: $No cost to look
