This review is for Evergreen Bistro, Weipa QLD

verified email - 12 Feb 2015

The evergreen bistro is an awesome place to eat. I have had the pleasure of dining here on business on a number of occasions and have been extremely impressed with the quality, freshness and size of the meals. I always end up having to flip a coin as to whether I want their succulent steaks or their ribs. The side salads are always fresh and crisp and their different gravies always have me wanting to lick the plate lol. The evergreen bistro is attached to the Weipa bowls club and is also a great place to have a bet on the pokies or keno and offers full bar facilities. The service is always friendly and prompt. Definitely a must do place to eat if you're visiting Weipa.

This review is for Settlers Hotel, Biloela QLD

Settlers Hotel/Motel caters for local and tourist alike with a wide range of facilities. Settlers boasts quite a respected restaurant which serves quality meals at affordable prices with the bonus of having fresh salad and vegetable bars which patrons can then add more healthy food items at their discretion to their meals. Settlers restaurant opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week but to be sure of getting in, in a timely fashion it may pay to book on popular nights of the week. Settlers also boast a public bar which has a pub tab and also a nightclub style area. Settlers regularly holds functions for businesses through to private birthday parties. Service is always quick and friendly across the board and you will find a vast arrange of different people frequenting settlers from business professional's to local tradesmen and contract workers.

This review is for Townsville RSL, Townsville QLD

verified email - 12 Feb 2015

Lavaracks Restaurant is located on the top floor of the Townsville RSL club. Lavaracks provides a high quality menu which falls just below fine dining, but is much more refined than other clubs and bars regular restaurant menu's. The cost of the meals also is very good considering the menu and probably better than other restaurants of similar quality. IF you are a member of the RSL you can also get a small discount on your meals. Lavaracks opens six days per week and does both lunch and dinner services (check for the opening times in advance though as it closes in the afternoon). Wait times I have found are generally on the longer side but in saying that all your food comes out freshly prepared. Staff are always polite, friendly and respectful. There is always plenty of activities going in throughout the RSL club itself to do after you finish your meal with regular live music, dance nights, raffles, poker machines and a TAB available.

This review is for Loyalty Beach Campground & Fishing Lodge, New Mapoon QLD

verified email - 12 Feb 2015

Loyalty Beach Camp Grounds and Fishing Lodge is located in one of the most beautiful settings that you could find in the NPA region of Cape York. From the moment you step outside of your hut, house, room or camping site you will be overlooking some beautiful parts of nature and the ocean. There are varying degrees of accommodation and comfort levels available but you need to be aware that if you are visiting the NPA area you are visiting a very remote place where functionality is much more important than world class designer facility presentation (you get the world class with the surrounding nature instead). The accommodation is all functional and helps push you to get out and enjoy the nature and mingle with fellow travellers. There is no tv at all in the rooms and mobile phone reception seems to be limited to the Telstra network I believe. You can buy meals from a limited menu on a nightly basis and there is also a kiosk and bar from which you can purchase incidentals. Loyalty beach is about 3km away from Seisia wharf and is well away from any other local accommodation so you will find it a very quiet and serene place to stay.

This review is for Mals Pies And Pastries, Oonoonba QLD

verified email - 12 Feb 2015

Mals Pies and Pastries is a great little café/bakery that services the Oonoonba and railway estate areas. They have a huge selection of freshly made pies and also a plethora of cakes, slices, desserts, drinks, salads, rolls and sandwiches. Service is always polite with a smile and I love the taste of home made style products rather than the mass produced ones of other places. There is plenty of easy parking off the roadside which I also appreciate and there are a number of other shops close by. The best time I find to go is first thing in the morning when the pies and bread are at their very freshest. I highly recommend their pie with peas as my favourite item on the menu.

This review is for The Mad Cow, Belgian Gardens QLD

verified email - 12 Feb 2015

The Mad Cow is one of Townsville's most popular and patronized nightclubs and bars. The Mad Cow caters to a very wide ranging cow from 18 year olds through to people in their 40's. Often at the end of a night many locals will choose the Mad Cow as their last venue before heading home. The Mad Cow downstairs area consists of a small dance floor area, a couple of pool tables and numerous barrels and seats where you can rest your legs. Upstairs is generally a more relaxed atmosphere and opens most Friday and Saturday nights. It plays a bit more of a country type of music and also features an outdoor balcony. The female bar staff are dressed as cowgirls supporting the atmosphere and are generally very friendly and professional while doing their jobs. Don't rely on having to go to the toilets here though as they are regularly disgusting and don't ever appear to be cleaned at all during the evening. Getting into the Mad Cow is no problem if you are a female but males depending on the night will need to make sure they are dressed appropriately. The Mad Cow security regularly turn away more patrons than the rest of the clubs combined in Townsville.

This review is for Kobe Restaurant, Townsville QLD

verified email - 11 Feb 2015

Kobe is probably the most upmarket restaurant I am aware of in the Townsville area. It serves up some absolutely succulent steaks which are cooked to the minute and offer the first class service you would expect from a high end restaurant. The meals are not cheap and you are definitely paying not only for the quality of the meal but also good service. It's a great place to take a date for an anniversary or perhaps a client whose business you are trying to woo. I can see myself definitely going back to Kobe to eat on special occasions in the future. Being attached to the casino property also makes it a good place to go for a meal before enjoying the night playing the pokies or your favourite table game.

This review is for Rib And Rumps, South Townsville QLD

verified email - 11 Feb 2015

I must say after initially being very excited to be going to Ribs and Rumps after some great feedback from friends and seeing the reviews online I was expecting great things. Unfortunately compared to what I was expecting I was a little disappointed. I found my meal to be of a good size but was actually quite dry and seemed either over cooked or perhaps not as freshly cooked as I was expecting. The service was also quite slow from the waiting to be seated to the taking of the orders. The prices of the meals are quite expensive so in this instance did not match my expectations. The restaurant is situated in a nice position within walking distance of the Townsville mall and downtown area. I will probably wait until I have friends who really want to go back to this restaurant before giving in another go.

This review is for Harolds Seafood Cannon Park, Thuringowa Central QLD

verified email - 11 Feb 2015

I occasionally go to Harold's on my lunch break when I get a chance and have a craving for some fresh fish and chips. you can generally see the fresh fish below the glass counter and it always tastes as good as it looks. The portion sizes of the chips and the fish are also quite good as well. At times Harold's can be quite busy and as everything is cooked fresh you may have to wait for a while but I am happy to do this for some freshly cooked fish. In the past I have also bought fresh prawns from Harold's which my family has also quite enjoyed. A nice place to get some fresh fish and chips if you are over on the Thuringowa side of town.

Approximate cost: $7-15

This review is for Harold's Seafood On The Strand, North Ward QLD

verified email - 11 Feb 2015

Harold's has some pretty great quality fresh fish and is located in one of the nicest places in Townsville directly opposite the strand. Harold's provides some outside seating for its customers but most take their fish and chips with them and sit down at the beach to eat. Apart from your general fish and chip shop items Harold's also do some very tasty salads to compliment your meal. Harold's really corner the market at the Strand due to their position and are quite expensive compared to other fish and chip shops in the local area. It is though a lovely place to take the family or a date.

Approximate cost: $12-25
