This review is for Des Alpes Swiss Restaurant, Mitchelton QLD

This cafe sounded interesting as I had never had swiss food before besides having on occasion a fondue. We decided against the fondue as my wife and her friend didn't feel like a cheese overload. However we were all a bit disappointed in our meals. The fondue is their feature and hopefully it is something they do well. I would likely come back to try to fondue to see if that does better than the other meals. This is a good place to check out for something a little bit different but I was quite disappointed with my experience.

I had heard some great things about this cafe and being in my local area I had to try it out. The food each time I have been has been outstanding. They do a great breaky or light lunch and the highlight for me is their avocado, it is fresh and tasty. Their corn cakes and eggs benedict are very good also. This is a nice quiet little cafe in the suburbs with good food and great service

This review is for Crossfit Desire, Northgate QLD

It was a bit of a shock to the system starting here as I hadn't done very much fitness for a quite a while. However the trainers and other people exercising couldn't have been more helpful. It is certainly correct what they say about crossfit and it being a community and Crossfit Desire has got that aspect absolutely spot on. Chris and Sonja the two owners and both very knowledgeable and friendly and are prepared to help and assist people as they are starting. Everyone there was very inviting and I knew a majority of the people within 3 visits which would never happen at a normal gym. If you are looking to get some visit and make a heap of great friends in the process then definitely check out Crossfit Desire.

This review is for Papa Jack's, Fortitude Valley QLD

Brisbane has seen a bit of an explosion in American style restaurants lately with Papa Jack's opening and also the nearby Mighty Mighty. Papa Jacks does Creole Style American and has a bluesy atmosphere. They do it well too, I had their catfish po boy and it was excellent. They also have a great range of beers, wines and cocktails. Although the menu is quite small they seem to know what they are doing and do it well.

This review is for shady palms cafe, Greenslopes QLD

My friend recommended this place to me and so we went one afternoon with our kids. It has an awesome beer garden with a great range of beers so we enjoyed the sun and a few beers whilst the kids amused themselves. The food is great also, the kids loved their chips and I absolutely loved my slider and taco. They have some interesting watermelon chicken wings too. This is a great little out of the way spot to enjoy a quiet afternoon or start a fun night.

This review is for Tippler's Tap, Newstead QLD

This place is tucked away in a quiet little area in Newstead but does seriously good Chicago style food and has an amazing beer range both on tap and in the bottle. It is a funky little space that unless you are looking for it you won't be find but are glad when you do. $10 for 1kg of great chicken wings says enough plus some awesome sliders for $5 a hit and as I say an amazing range of beers. I had a great time just reading through the beer menu of all the different types of beers from around the world. Great little spot for the beer and food lover.

This review is for Ann Gyoza Bar, Fortitude Valley QLD

verified email - 22 Jul 2014

Gyoza's are all the rage in Brisbane at the moment and this little bar at the Emporium does a pretty decent effort. Their range is a bit broader than others as they also focus on traditional japanese dishes and bento boxes rather than just straight gyozas. I got a gyoza bento box and it was a good effort with the curry and rice flavourful and the gyoza good little bites of flavour. This was good food, however I would have liked a larger range of gyozas as their wasn't a massive selection to choose from. I still haven't tried harojuka gyoza but will have to check it out.

The highlight of this place is definitely the kids playground. This would have to be the biggest kids area I have seen at a pub and there is definitely enough to keep the kids entertained and with the outdoor area you can easily view your children. The food is good quality pretty standard pub food but it is above average and the prices reasonable. This is definitely a great place to take the kids to have some fun and enjoy a nice lunch.

This review is for Fab Fish And Burger Grill, Brisbane QLD

verified email - 21 Jul 2014

I have been to FAB quite a few times now and the burgers have never let me down. It can get quite busy, especially on game day, being in the barracks however the service is still attentive and the burgers come out quite quickly. They use good fresh ingredients with a range of beers and wines to choose from. They also do fish as the name suggests however I have only ever done the burgers and chips and they are always good. Certainly beats Maccas!

This review is for Valentina's Cafe, Mitchelton QLD

This cafe is a great little spot located near my place. I don't drink coffee but my wife raved about the coffee however they do a great breakfast or brunch. You can put together your own breakfast or they do an awesome breakfast burrito and have a range of cakes and salads and do burgers and some colombian staples also as the owner is colombian. If you are looking for a great friendly little cafe then this is the one for you!
