I've been coming here since this place was Johnny Rockets and it's just as awesome now as it was then. Fun 50/60's vibe with decor to match. Juke boxes are lots of fun and staff really get into the swing of things with their singing and dancing. Great burgers, fries, hot dogs and shakes too.

So much fun!! The vibe and atmosphere at this place is great. I love when it's time for the staff to dance and sing with Elvis. The food is so American! Hot dogs and curly fries, it gives Mistys a run for its money. A great place to eat.
The decor of the place is adorable, it feels like stepping onto the Grease set! I really enjoyed the chocolate cola they have and the milk shakes are also pretty awesome.
Hmmm, mixed feelings about this one. I think I would have to say that it is more of a novelty experience than a gastronomic one. They have really done a great job with the atmosphere and setting - very very retro American. I would say it looks just like a scene out of Grease, with the 50s style booths, cute little jukeboxes at each booth, lots of aluminiun/steel and laminate. The food menu is as you would expect from a diner - chicken nuggets, chips, burgers. Not too dissimilar in substance and form from what you could pick up at more high st fast food chains and priced around the same level too.
Had a great time with some friends here recently. Love the whole rockin' 50's and 60's vibe with the decor and juke boxes, although could do with a little renovation in the near future. Staff were dressed up and sometimes I've heard they sing etc to entertain diners.
Shakes and burger were tasty and the fries were pretty good too, if a little greasy but I guess that just adds to the retro atmosphere when we hadn't ever heard of cholesterol.
Located on the busy corner of Chapel Street and Toorak Road.
Plenty to choose from on the menu - a range of hot dogs and burgers, BLT's, all day breakfasts etc and what about a Banana split or Hot fudge sundae to round it off.
Worth going, at least once.
Open from 10am- 10pm Sunday -Thursday and stay open until 11pm on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Approximate cost: $10 - 12
This place is a great 50s style diner. The staff regularly burst into song and it has the best cherry coke I've ever had. Their secret is they import the syrup from the us. Great for a bit of nostalgia
Approximate cost: $20
A great original diner. Complete with dancing waitresses, chilli fries, shakes of all varieties and booths to eat in. Easily found on Chapel St it's a great little joint with lovely staff. Would be good for families as well.
I took my friend here as we have been in the past and enjoyed the food. The food was still pretty good today however we were going to order a desert today but none of the wait staff came to our table to clear our plates and ask if we would like anything else and we could not catch their attention (it wasn't particularly busy). So we didn't order desert and they lost out on business.
Approximate cost: $17
Soda Rock has some of the best selections of old school shakes and they are served up in such a cool looking diner. Each table comes with a mini juke box and you can put a coin in and pick some songs to be played-I thought this was really cute. I had an Oreo milkshake and it was the best one I've had-icy cold and nice and thick. The burgers and chips are pretty good and add to the diner experience.
