Fantastic new gym in North Fitzroy. The team are very friendly and the facilities and second to none. The trainers all know your name and say hi when you head in. They're happy to help out with advice with nutrition as well.
They are also a hot yoga studio - and the space is fantastic! Booking is easy, you can go online and book in PT's, yoga sessions or even a sauna. Even the change rooms are beautful! I've never felt so comfortable in a gym. Their focus is very clearly on their members, not numbers. This is the complete opposite to a 24/7 gym. Great jobs, guys!

One of Melbourne's classic laneway bars. Perfect in summer, outdoors, with drinks being served from a couple of shipping containers. Prices are reasonable for a city bar. I probably wouldn't recommend this place for winter or rainy days as there is not much cover. For food, check out Shanghai Dumplings next door - they're super cheap and quick to prepare a meal.

Pretty good pub food and in a great location near Flinders St Station. I've been to a few private functions here and they're always very good. Staff are attentive and good venue. Check out the cider bar upstairs. Atmosphere is good fun and they have a huge range of cider running on tap. Can get pretty busy during sports events. Worth popping by a Melbourne icon.

Cool little Mexican place on Lonsdale St. For a reasonable price you can customise your taco/burrito with a range of fillings. Extras like avocado are only a little extra. Generally a meal should cost between 8-12 $$. Was pretty impressed with freshness and price. It can be tricky to find a meal around this part of the city without price hiking up, or heading off into Melbourne Central. Lots of noodle bowl option around here so different is good! Seems to be open weekends, too - some of the other shops like Degani's only have limited opening hours.

This review is for Dixons Recycled, Blackburn VIC

verified email - 10 Feb 2014

Probably one of my favourite shops in Melbourne. There are only a handful of Dixons left in Melbourne, as Camberwell recently closed down. I find that the Mitcham store is normally a bit cheaper than Fitzroy (possibly because the supply and demand is not as great?) however this could be my imagination. Always a heap to choose from whether you're a lover of pre-loved CD or vinyl. They also stock second hand DVDs. If you're unsure about their sticker marking system in regards to quality, it's worth asking. Gold sticker means virtually mint. Silver is top quality and after that I can never remember.

Great little fish and chip shop tucked away just off Karingal Drive. I've been here a couple of times with friends and they probably have the best chips in the area. Turnaround is always quick and they take phone orders. It's always great when you discover a good new local chippy!

Always busy and bustling whether you're here for breakfast or dinner. Urban Grooves is a bit of an institition in Greensborough. A regular catch up spot for many locals, however it can sometimes be a bit overpriced compared to other cafes in Montmorency or Eltham. Quality of the food is good, mostly bistro style. They also have a full bar and good range of cakes for dessert. It's worth booking if you're going for dinner as it sometimes books out.
There is plenty of parking available behind the shopping strip of in the Plaza Target carpark, as there is no street parking on Main Rd.

This review is for Walkers Wheels, Montmorency VIC

verified email - 10 Feb 2014

My family has bought our bikes from Walkers Wheels for almost 20 years. The team are helpful, friendly and full of advice. They do bike servicing in the shop and have a reasonable turn around. Marcus Walkers has owned the shop for over two decades and has become very well known in the area and always has a laugh and joke.
The shop used to be located on Were St, but moved to Para Rd a few years back to a larger premises.
If you want to support a local business and get into cycling, Marcus is the person to see!

This review is for P&M Monteleone Fruit Shop, Northcote VIC

verified email - 04 Feb 2014

This is both a fruit and veg shop as well as a mini deli style grocer (with lots of Italian treats, pasta etc). There is a good range however I've have some issues with the freshness of produce. Always very well priced though and in a good location. Not far from Coles or the bakeries.

I've had a few problems with the Fruit and Veg shop in Northcote plaza (with produce going off too quickly) so my housemate put me on to this shop. Produce is a good price, fresh and a high quality. They have a good range and are in a handy spot directly across from Aldi.
