Nice place to catch up with friends. Gets quite busy on the weekends. Can be a bit noisy downstairs, so worth seeing if they've opened upstairs up. The toilets were confusing, especially if you've been drinking. They have a light above them to tell you if they're occupied.
Good range of drinks, friendly staff.

Cosy place, maybe too, cosy for my liking, it gets rather crowded for such a small establishment. When there is less people I would imagine it can be a nice place to chill with the ambient lighting and decor.

Black Pearl has a classy feel to it, unlike some of the relaxed, grungy bars in Fitzroy. The prices of the drinks reflect this. The couches are quite comfortable and there's an upstairs section if it gets packed downstairs, which it usually does. Overall, a nice place to hang out with mates, but to be honest, I'd never spend an entire night there when there are better places to hang out in Fitzroy.

I love this bar! It has so many little nooks and places to hang out with just your mates upstairs, or if you want to mingle stay downstairs. It has a great mix of people all the time and the bar staff are really friendly - even making drink suggestions.

Like many other uni students, I've been a regular visitor to Brunswick St over the years. The Black Pearl is one of the standouts on a street packed with drinking options. The bar has a very cosy atmosphere, with good music and decor a welcome step-up from the dilapidated boho-chic of most other Brunswick St nightspots (not that there's anything wrong with boho-chic!). Comfy chairs are perfect for relaxing with friends or even having a cuddle with an amour while perusing the drinks menu.

This perusal can take a little while, as there's always a (shortish) range of cocktails, wine and beer on offer. The cocktails have been consistently very good and often feature some exotic ingredients (bison grass-infused vodka, anyone?). They also change regularly, giving a perfect excuse to come back.

Service is good and prices are relatively high (compared to other Brunswick St bars) but represent value for money - the quality of the drinks here is excellent.

Approximate cost: $15 for a cocktail
