This review is for The Kodiak Club, Fitzroy VIC

I gave Kodiak 4 stars for quality because their buffalo wings are scrumptious! Just the right amount of spice and tangy without overpowering your taste buds. I would seriously come here just for the food! The rest of their menu is good, but nothing to brag about. Kodiak is run by Americans I think, and has an American/Mexican flavour to their drinks menu. The place is smallish and cozy, as you'd expect from a Brunny St bar. There's also an upstairs section if it gets busy. The bar staff are nice and friendly so that's a big plus.

This place is great if you study or work near Melbourne Uni and you want a quick meal that is reasonably priced and healthy. The dining hall atmosphere won't appeal to everyone, but the staff and clientele tend to be friendly so it never bothers me, even when I have to share a table with strangers :)
Overall, a very decent selection of starchy foods, vegies, and meat. This will be a favourite of mine for a long time.

This review is for Gypsy Bar, Fitzroy VIC

verified email - 30 Sep 2010

I like Gypsy Bar because it is small and cozy. The place used to be run by a husband-wife team but I think they bailed on the business. Despite this, staff have always been very friendly and chatty. There's a good selection of drinks, the food is not bad, and prices are fairly reasonable but not cheap. They have a small band that plays on the tiny platform next to the window on some nights. Overall, a great place to chill out with your friends and where you can hang out and talk without having to shout or put up with idiots.

This review is for Bridie O'Reilly's, Brunswick VIC

I have rated this pub ignoring my experience on Friday and Saturday nights. They haven't been that bad, but drunk boys and big bouncers don't tend to mix well. I'm not a big fan of loud places either. That said, I've have visited this pub during the day and also on weeknights and it's not bad. It's comfortable, it's very Irish and there's even a fireplace to keep you warm. The bar chicks are usually friendly. I quite fancied one but unfortunately she quit and I can't give 5 stars for the service :)
Overall, Bridie O'Reilly's is great except for Friday and Saturday nights when young boys go out to get hammered and try to pick up chicks.

This is pretty much what you'd expect in Fitzroy. A nice, relaxing, grungy bar. It looks small when you walk through the doors but the beer garden is quite large and half of it is undercover, which is convenient when it rains. The drinks selection and prices are reasonable. Food is alright too and they do cheap parmas on some nights. The staff have always been friendly to me. Overall, a great place to chill out with your mates after work or on the weekend.

This review is for Little Creatures Dining Hall, Fitzroy VIC

verified email - 29 Sep 2010

If I could I'd give this place 3.5 stars. The Little Creatures Dining Hall is big, and with the size comes the noise. You'll have to raise your voice to converse with your mates but it's not too loud (as in nightclub doof doof loud). The food is standard, but the beers are great! Prices for both are reasonable. I quite like the open atmosphere of this place and I find myself wanted to stay longer when my mates are ready to pub crawl.

This review is for Black Cat, Fitzroy VIC

verified email - 29 Sep 2010

There's not much I can say about the Black Cat. It's small but comfortable, and the selection and price of drinks are quite reasonable. The music isn't my cuppa tea but that's just me. I like to relax here with my mates before venturing elsewhere in Fitzroy.

This review is for Black Pearl Bar, Fitzroy VIC

verified email - 29 Sep 2010

Black Pearl has a classy feel to it, unlike some of the relaxed, grungy bars in Fitzroy. The prices of the drinks reflect this. The couches are quite comfortable and there's an upstairs section if it gets packed downstairs, which it usually does. Overall, a nice place to hang out with mates, but to be honest, I'd never spend an entire night there when there are better places to hang out in Fitzroy.

This review is for Noodle Palace, Fitzroy VIC

verified email - 29 Sep 2010

I love noodles, and I prefer them quick, so this place is perfect for me. The food quality is what you'd expect from an Asian restaurant. It's tasty and is served pretty quickly. The price is very reasonable and you get heaps of food. My friends usually struggle to finish their plates. If I could, I would give them 3.5 stars because they are actually pretty good, but not outstanding.

This review is for Spud Bar, Fitzroy VIC

I enjoy visiting the Spud Bar in Fitzroy every once a while. The spud dishes are fantastic and healthy, the blokes who run the place are really friendly, and the price is reasonable. Don't expect a restaurant though. The place is quite small, which is probably why the franchise is called Spud Bar and not Spud Restaurant. If you like starchy food as much as I food, but you also prefer something healthy, then try this place. FYI, I've never been to Spud Bar in the city, and I've been to the Doncaster (Westfield food court) shop twice. You can pretty much expect the same thing in Doncaster.
