My boyfriend and I went here after finding Sushi Suma was closed. We ordered a chicken kebab and 2 pizzas and stood outside waiting for the food as there were only 2 seats available for people waiting for takeaway orders. We both got sick that night so we've both vowed never to return.
What a great find. Awesome food and great service. Comparable to Thai food you would get around Newtown but in lovely Summer Hill. We've since moved away from Summer Hill and will definitely miss this place!
Quite possibly the best Japanese food in Sydney. Yes, service is appalling but you're not in a 5-star restaurant so get over it. Even the sashimi in Japan does not compare!
We dined here for a birthday. Couldn't book a table for more than 14 people without leaving a deposit so we booked 2 separate tables. The group on the smaller table was told it was pre-booked at 8:30pm, 2 hours after we arrived, so we moved to the bigger table when some of our friends started leaving. 8:30pm came and went, no group showed. They ended up splitting the table between 4 couples so they either lied to us about the table being pre-booked or the other group never showed.
Our waiter was incompetent. We've dined here before and he always seems to be unhelpful and have no common sense. He didn't ask us if we wanted fries or potatoes with our meals, just assumed that we'd all want fries. And he didn't ask what topping we wanted on the ice cream, just assumed we'd want chocolate.
All the food starts to taste the same after a while. The ribs, steaks and chicken...as they all seem to be basted with the same sauce.
I've read all the reviews of this place so my partner and I decided to dine here for Valentine's dinner and we were both pleasantly surprised. Firstly, they didn't take advantage of Valentine's day like many other restaurants by forcing a set menu on everyone and only taking bookings for specific times. It was just a normal night where you can order anything from the menu.
Secondly, their service was fantastic. The female waitress was very knowledgeable and professional and the Asian waiter was attentive (but not too attentive).
Thirdly, the food was divine! I had the pork confit and my partner had the spatchcock, one of their specials of the night and we shared a bottle of French red wine which accompanied our meals perfectly. The dessert wasn't that great though, had the apple tart which was ok and my partner didn't seem too impressed with the creme caramel.
All in all, we had a great night and we'll definitely be back!
Have tried the pub cha several times. Advice for those who frequent yum cha restaurants - this is not your typical yum cha with trolleys going around. You're given a list of food where you note down how many of each dish you want and it's brought to your table. So in that sense, it's pretty much like a normal restaurant.
The food is authentic yum cha fare, though more pricey compared to other yum cha restaurants. The Chinese broccoli was delish though a bit cold, the salt and pepper calamari was a little too salty but the prawn and spinach dumplings were fantastic. Lunch in the beer garden out the back was very pleasant.
We dined here for a birthday. There were 16 in our group and we were squished into a table that would normally only sit 10 or 12 people, so we kept bumping into each other's elbows. The food wasn't outstanding, same quality as you would get from a Portuguese takeaway shop in Petersham. The servings were decent if you consider the prices of the mains.
Wow, this is where you go if you want to spoil someone. Yes, it's not cheap but you get what you pay for. 5 star food and service all the way. The waiters were attentive but did not hover. The food took a while to arrive, even though there were only 7 other diners but we had some lovely wines to sip while waiting and we were also treated to some lovely warm bread and butter. Thank you to the staff of Bacar restaurant for making my birthday dinner a memorable one!
We're used to ordering from several Thai restaurants in Newtown and this was pretty good in comparison. Spring rolls were good but the pandan chicken was overcooked and dry. The tom kha chicken and chicken with cashew nut sauce was good although it could have done with more veges.
All in all, pretty good value esp if you order between 5-6:30 pm when you get a 15% discount.
Had lunch here with workmates a few months ago. There was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time so we had no issues with service. Recommend the banquet highly. All the food was freshly cooked and delicious! There was so much food that we didn't even get to eat all the skewered meats towards the end. Probably could've done with more dessert though, considering the $40pp we paid for the banquet.
