This is definitely not the sort of place I would usually go to, firstly because it is on Cavill Ave (not a place I tend to think adults belong??) and secondly because it is a nightclub (again, adults don't belong). That said, a few months ago I bought a heap of discount voucher things to try and give my husband and I some different "date night" options (we devolved into a rut of RSL dinners - at 30 years old, not ok!!). This was one of those, and I bought it before investigating the details of the venue.
Anyway, last night we trudged down there so as to not waste our $60 voucher for seafood platter and wine, and were happily surprised.
Yes, it turns into a nightclub at night (we had a 6:30 reservation so it wasn't too evil, but on its way) so we were surrounded with a few hen's night parties and drunken bar crawl crowds, along with the associated advertising and very short skirted employees, but if you can block that out (or find it appealing, no judgement??) then it is really quite nice.
Every staff member we spoke to was absolutely lovely, friendly and completely helpful. Nothing was too difficult, and (unlike some places who have offered voucher deals) they didn't resent the coupon we used. Service was fast and professional, we got all our food delivered to the table within 20 minutes of sitting down and the platter was massive - we couldn't finish it, but enjoyed everything we ate.
Overall, yes the venue itself isn't what you may call upper class, but everyone was so lovely and the food was beautiful, and sometimes living out of your comfort zone is a good time. Try something new :-)

We stumbled across this burger venue on Friday afternoon when looking for a quick dinner before seeing a movie. The food was absolutely beautiful, all 4 of us had something different and it was all delicious. The staff were on the ball, got orders quickly and delivered the food promptly, and all together, which is always nice.
There were a few mix ups that were frustrating, such a wrong drinks being delivered and failure to include all items in a salad (the salad is "BBQ chicken with fetta" and they left of the fetta by mistake). On a positive note, on both occasions we alerted the staff to the mistake and they fixed it immediately without any complaints or eye rolling at any point.
Not the place for a classy dinner date with someone you are hoping to impress, but definitely a great burger dinner location.

This is something I have been wanting to do for ages, pretty well since it went it, but the $15 per person cost to go on a 12 minute ride pretty well prevented me every convincing my height-impaired husband from getting on there. The cost was just too good an excuse for him.
Recently I did get the opportunity to go on it with a friend (not petrified of heights) who had a buy one get one free discount ticket. We went during the day, on the weekend. On the happy, positive side we got the carriage to ourselves because it was quiet, which was lovely. You definitely wouldn't want more than about 6 people in there though, they aren't huge capsules.
The staff were generally friendly and easy going. Not overly solicitous but not rude at all.
The view is lovely, we took some happy snaps and enjoyed that element. It does go faster than I thought though, if you want pictures you need to be ready cause you lose the good shot quickly.
There is information playing to tell you where to look to see various things that I guess was kind of interesting too.
Overall, I liked the experience, I am glad I did it, but I won't be hurrying back to do it any time soon (unless I am with tourists, who I think really would enjoy it) and definitely not without a huge discount. I think $15 for a 12 minute ride is a bit stupid, there is a reason they aren't ever that busy.

My husband and I went to this cafe/bar on the weekend. A while ago I bought a discount voucher, and then last week when I went looking for the address details I came across a massive bunch of reviews basically saying this was the worst place in the whole world. Pretty much noone had anything nice to say about it. We discussed just not bothering, because it was a bit of a hassle with the voucher expiring and being busy, but events transpired that we were in the city so we decided to give it a go.
All I can say is, sometimes you really need to give things a go yourself and ignore everyone else. We absolutely enjoyed every mouthful we consumed and could not have been happier with the experience. Mostly, we were stoked we decided to head on in and give it a try (too money conscious to "waste" the voucher I am afraid) because otherwise we really would have missed out.
They don't seem to do big meals or anything, just a variety of drinks, chocolates, macarons, slices and cakes and ribbon sandwiches.
It isn't its own enclosed cafe to sit and snuggle or anything like that, a very open type space that faces into the shopping area, but if that isn't a problem, you will likely enjoy it.
The staff member we engaged with was friendly and helpful to a fault, did not complain about the voucher or get upset when I changed my mind on my order. She smiled constantly and worked busily preparing our food and dealing with other customers for the duration we were there.
Granted we were there early, about 9:30am on a Sunday, but at that stage the food was fresh and very well presented.
I don't know that I would buy a heck of a lot without a discount voucher, as their products are relatively expensive, but for a city venue I think this is always to be expected. You can grab a mint hot chocolate (seriously, is there anything better??) for $5.50, which to me is fairly decent for the location.
Ultimately, we left planning when we would next go back to try out some other tasty treats.

This review is for Baby Gift Box, Coolum Beach QLD

verified email - 24 Oct 2012

This is an online business that stocks gifts and the like for babies and new mums. I discovered them just through a google search this week, because I needed a baby/nappy cake type thing as a gift for a baby shower.
They have a pretty huge range of products, with a great variety of price points, and the information and images depicted online are very accurate - my baby cake arrived and looks identical to the image online. It is smaller than I had imagined, but I think that is more a my imagination that their issue :-)
Delivery to "Metro Brisbane" is only $9.95 on top of the cost of your chosen product, and is NEXT DAY delivery. I ordered at 8:30pm one day and it was delivered at 3:30pm the next. Awesome. No problems or concerns whatsoever. Metro Brisbane isn't too narrow either. I couldn't find any specific information on what suburbs or areas were or weren't included, but they delivered to Springwood, which is 20km or so outside the CBD, so I figure that is pretty decent coverage for the cost. This is pretty fabulous for people who do things at the last minute (either deliberately or by accident).
The product arrives very well packaged, wrapped in bubble wrap and in a solid taped box to make sure it is fully protected. It looks really amazing, beautifully presented, even with the transport. I had mine delivered to our house so I could give it to the mum-to-be in person (and see exactly what I was getting), but it can also be delivered directly to the person (probably obvious, but just putting it out there).
If you are looking for baby gifts, definitely worth a look at this site!!

This review is for MT Brewery, Tamborine Mountain QLD

verified email - 20 Oct 2012

I have visited MT Brewery on two separate occasions and both times really enjoyed the experience.
The first time we went was with a group of friends on a winery tour, we stopped in there and did a cheese and beer tasting. The beer tasting included very decent portions of 4 different types of their beer and there was a very substantial portion of the cheeses supplied for us to sample. We were assisted and all set up with our food and drink within 20 minutes of arriving, at a table that had been reserved for us.
The second occasion we actually ate lunch, the meals were nice, general pub good. There was a bit of a wait, but that really just gave us an excuse to enjoy a few more beers, which can never be considered a negative. We grabbed a cheese platter on our way out for later that night, and it was delicious as well.
In both instances, the staff were friendly, the area was clean and hygenic and the atmosphere relaxed and happy, which is perfect. It is a super relaxing environment to spend a few hours.

This review is for Nataraja Indian Restaurant, Red Hill QLD

verified email - 20 Oct 2012

I have had Nataraja cook me dinner so many times I don't remember. It is good stuff, check it out!
They have a dine in restaurant or can do take out or home delivery.
The food is really good, they have a great range of different meals and side dishes and the staff are friendly and know what they are doing.
They have a minimum delivery order of $25 to have it brought to your house (set area they deliver to) but generally that would be any order for 2-3 adults. Between a rice, two mains and some naan bread you are there so delivery is good for the lazy in you :-) Generally this was always enough food for dinner for 2 of us and lunch the next day as well, so it is decent value.

This review is for Leema's Lounge, Fortitude Valley QLD

I went here for dinner a few months ago after a friend bought discount vouchers for us all to go out.
It is one of those odd places that has equal goods and bads to say about it...
GOOD - The food was really great, there was lots of it and it was really delicious. The staff were all friendly and really nice to talk to.
BAD - The decor is a bit seedy, definitely not the kind of place I would go with anyone I wanted to impress in any way. Communication isn't clear, they couldn't tell us what was included, what wasn't or when any of the food would be coming out. It took absolutely ages and ages, which was really frustrating.
Overall? If you are interested in trying something new and different and aren't particularly concerned about your surrounds or waiting time, perhaps give it a go?
Sorry about the ambivalence of my review... it really reflects my overall feelings on the place, I just cannot decide what I think.

This review is for The Plough Inn, South Brisbane QLD

verified email - 20 Oct 2012

The Plough Inn is an absolutely great place to hang out - whether for a meal or just drinks, it is worth a go.
I have lost count of the number of times I have been here and all the different people I have taken along, over the last 10 or so years. Even my parents-in-law enjoyed our meal there.
A really great atmosphere with a variety of different areas to eat and drink, and frequent live music to sing along to during your stay there. The music is always my favourite element and key reason I always suggest we go there for a drink or any other occasion I can think of.
If you are a huge fan of people watching, like me, even better. You can sit and watch people wander through the Southbank markets, create lives and stories for them and even window shop - all while enjoying a beer :-)
Great pub meals and reasonable priced drinks, grab a seat and check it out next time you are in Southbank.

This review is for Inspired Ceremonies, Robina QLD

verified email - 19 Oct 2012

Elisha is amazing in every way! If you are looking for a marriage celebrant for yourself or a friend or family member, I absolutely 100% recommend her.
Elisha is super organised, incredibly genuine and really makes sure her clients feel comfortable and happy with her, the process and all their decisions.
I looked into over 35 celebrants before I finally found Elisha and after I met her I was so happy I could have cried.
Although she is based in Robina herself, Elisha is happy to travel, and attended our wedding on Brisbane's North Side with no problems.
She answered countless emails back and forward with question after question and was endlessly patient and helpful. She has experience with different needs and requests from clients and is therefore able to make suggestions to help out.
We were struggling to work out who to ask to sign the registry out of our bridal party (choosing between friends really sucks) and when Elisha suggested we use our mothers, it all fell into place. Both my mum and mother-in-law were crazy happy, and felt really important and special. They still talk about it to their friends. A super nice way to include mothers in the ceremony, and without Elisha we may never have gotten that opportunity!
My great aunt who is super picky and even a little bit scary even commented how great she was and got her contact details to pass on to other friends - there is no greater compliment, believe me!
Good price, flexible and friendly celebrant with awesome ideas. Elisha is relatively young too which was nice - I felt like we clicked and had something in common, which I really wanted for our ceremony, not just some random stranger we had to choose.
If you are searching - this is definitely a number you want to call. We had a no obligation first meeting to work out if we were happy, and it totally sealed the deal.

Approximate cost: $550
