I am a really huge fan of this place, it is definitely worth checking out for any beauty needs you may have.
It has been in the centre (under a few different names I think?) for quite a while and I have walked past it without giving it much thought, but just before my wedding I went in to get my eyebrows waxed because I had kind of left it last minute (whoops) and they were marvelous. I honestly don't think my brows have ever looked better, I am happy to say. Good timing for it really.
The staff member who assisted me was so lovely and explained everything, gave me instructions and happily gave me an awesome 20 minute chill out at a time I desperately needed it. It was about $20 which always seems a bit crazy expensive for what it is to me, but I don't resent it at all because they made it worth it.
I have been back probably 4 times since (I only got married in May, so that is quite a lot for me) for a few different services and always had an equally good experience. They have great staff, very nice presentation for all their rooms and are up front about everything they offer.
For a little beautician in the middle of an outer suburb, they really are worth checking out, more than a lot of the big chains out there.

I am not a huge fan of this place, although I have been there a couple of times because it is close and easy to get to.
If you walk in and ask if they are free, they seem to always say yes, wave you into a seat and then try and serve you and two other people at the same time, which I find really frustrating, because then sometimes they miss steps and the end result isn't really brilliant (particularly their pedicures!).
The staff talk among themselves and really don't interact with their customers at all except to ask what they want with colours and the like.
This really isn't the relaxing kind of environment I prefer, but for the emergency kind of job they can get it done, for basically the same price as most foot spa / manicure type places can.

This review is for Our Place Cafe, Springwood QLD

This is a pretty cute, quite cafe in Springwood.
They are never terribly busy so you can always grab a seat and have a lovely chat, but it is kind of sad, because they are really good - I feel bad that they aren't run off their feet. That said - that they are quite means they never try to rush people out or harass you to order more if you are there for a while.
I started going there occasionally with a friend because they were one of the first places in the area to really stock a decent range of gluten free products. My friend didn't have to order the exact same thing every single time as was the case in a few other places. I know there are now more places with greater variety in their menus, but we still pop into Our Place out of loyalty, and because it is generally quite nice.

This review is for Big Gun Wholesale Meats, Underwood QLD

Love this butcher - they have a huge selection, specials every week and fairly good quality produce.
If you have a chest freezer at home, it is definitely the place to go. A few weeks ago they have chicken breast for like $6/kg, we bought 5kg, popped it into 500g zip lock bags in the freezer and are still working our way through it.
These types of bargains are what you just can't go past.
We go roughly every month, stock up on about $50 of meat which sees us through the next four weeks.
Definitely much cheaper than buying in our weekly Woolies or Coles shop, because of the bulk purchase firstly and secondly because of the generally cheap prices.
I think my husband likes it almost as much as he is in love with Bunnings (which is a big call!!) Every time he comes home from Big Gun he shows me everything he got and waits for me to praise him on his bargain shopping ability. Kinda cute really.
On another note, Big Gun also plays a strong role for their local community. They allow sausage sizzles outside for various groups, and also are generally happy to make deals or donations of product upon application. My school was having a reward day for students and Big Gun was more than happy to help with sausages. After Woolies and Coles both refused to assist in any deal at all, we were really grateful. The kids loved them and we didn't go broke :-)

This review is for Jim's Mowing, Waterford West QLD

verified email - 18 Oct 2012

John Clarke, of Jim's Mowing in the Logan area (basically Edens Landing, Waterford West and Waterford - but we live in Springwood and he comes here) is truly amazing.
He is really dedicated, on the ball and very keen to do a great job.
John has been coming to do our lawn for the past 10 months. It started out as an emergency call when our mower died and we had a party on the weekend and needed nice lawns (it was our housewarming, so needed it to look pretty!) and John came round for a once off mow, told me the cost of regular and left happily.
With the dead mower and no real dedication to getting a new one immediately, my partner and I agreed we would get John in regularly until we got married in May so we had time to focus on everything else, but we are yet to ask him to stop coming because he is go great!
He shows up every fortnight, and if there is a reason he can't be there (family holiday etc) he calls or emails in advance to let us know and make an alternative arrangement. Every now and then we come home to a note saying he did something extra as a thank you for our business too, which is really a lovely thing for him to do.
The cost is reasonable enough that we can justify being too lazy to mow ourselves (even though a friend gave us their second mower so we could), and it is easy to pay - just make a bank deposit into account so you don't need to have cash on you every fortnight or whatever.
Definitely a business worth checking out! John does lots more than just mowing too - gutters, garden clean up and maintenance, rubbish removal etc, so he will be able to help with any garden jobs you may have.
If you have an experience anything like ours, you will be absolutely delighted.

This review is for Yatala Twin Drive-In Theatre, Stapylton QLD

verified email - 13 Oct 2012

This is one of my favourite places in the whole of greater Brisbane... if you still consider it Brisbane, which I chose to do.
I absolutely love drive-in theatres, they have the best atmosphere, are well priced and lots of fun.
We take our ute with a dodgy mattress in the back and pillows and the like and lie in the tray eating snacks from the esky of food we drag along with us. Whenever we go I sit there wondering why on earth we decided it was a good thing to lock ourselves in a freezing cold over airconditioned room to watch a movie where we pay a huge ticket price and even more inflated food and drink prices when drive-ins are (or were) the alternative? Snuggling up under a blanket eating cheap food from home is such a brilliant experience, it is worth the drive down to see the latest flicks. What you spend on petrol you save on the ticket anyway!
It is absolutely worth checking out their movie times and heading down, even if it is just for the experience - everyone I have taken has absolutely loved it and gone back multiple times!

This review is for The Glen Hotel, Eight Mile Plains QLD

verified email - 13 Oct 2012

The Glen Hotel is a nice family place to eat. They have good food and a nice atmosphere and generally friendly staff.
There is quite a bit to do and lots on offer entertainment wise on different days. I highly recommend the all you can eat breakfast buffet they have on weekends. It is only $17.50 and you can just rock up and eat to your hearts content, then have a busy day and not worry about being starving half way through it. Always a plus in my book :-)
I have been to a few weddings there too, inside and outside ones, and they do a good job with those. All the brides have been really happy and it is nice and relaxed.
There is lots of parking and it is easy to get to.

This review is for Hotel HQ, Underwood QLD

verified email - 13 Oct 2012

Hotel HQ is a decent local place to eat.
I had never been there before December last year when a volunteer group I would with recommended it for our end of year Christmas dinner, because it was close and easy to get it.
We agreed on it because there was an abundance of shop-a-dockets for buy one get one free mail meal so went there.
It is a nice place, fairly run of the mill for hotel, pub style dining. The meals are really quite large and absolutely filling, and with vouchers and the like are definitely reasonably priced.
It is kind of big with a few rooms though, so if you are meeting people do so outside perhaps, or you run around for 10 minutes lost trying to find them, while they laugh at you from inside rather than helping you. Lol.

I was recommended to this restaurant by some friends, and went to try it out because it is close to home.
It is a nice restaurant, good decor and friendly staff, kind of a nice place to go without having to travel to the city if you live out Logan way.
The food is nice and it really isn't crazy expensive. They also have a really decent range of food even for picky eaters, and are happy to modify things if you don't want exactly what is on the menu. Easy to get to with quite a bit of parking so you don't have to walk miles or pay for parking at all.

This review is for Massage Talks, Springwood QLD

This is a fabulous little massage place. There are so many around in so many shops that it can get a bit difficult to discern good from bad, but this one is definitely good.
Possibly because they are in a smaller complex (or because noone knows how great they are yet), I have never been turned away or had to wait long for an appointment.
The staff are friendly and happy to help with anything. Importantly, they listen to what is wrong and actually focus on the areas requested, which I find not all massage places do unfortunately.
They accept private health cards for rebate for certain types of massage which is always helpful also.
