A delightful, cosy place to spend time with friends over breakfast, lunch or coffee and cake. Great seating choices, inside or out. Haven't had a meal there, but the coffee is excellent and there's a good selection of really nice cakes and slices in the cabinet.

This review is for Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar, Victoria Park WA

19 Jun 2012

After passing the new Crust Pizza Bar in Vic Park a few times, we finally made time to check it out. They were very busy on a Friday evening, the staff were friendly and the pizzas were ready for collection in a reasonable time.

The Capricciosa was our favourite - generously loaded, full of flavour and perfect crunchy crust. The Mediterranean Lamb was surprisingly weak in flavour and left us wishing we'd ordered something else.

19 Jun 2012

We went to an exhibition at the Fremantle Arts Centre recently, and dropped by their Canvas Cafe for lunch before heading home.

We fell in love with the infectious, happy vibe at Canvas, and then we fell for the glorious food, delivered with enthusiasm and a confident smile! Just goes to show that food made with joy and love and passion creates a lasting enjoyment that goes way beyond the actual experience on the day.

Can't wait to get back there - my taste buds are tingling at the memory of our magnificent lunch. We tried the breakfast shakshukas (available all day) and are now totally hooked on the incredible flavours and gorgeous presentation. The shakshukas arrived sizzling hot in a little frying pan, sitting on a wooden board with Moorish bread and herb butter, and a dish of the most INCREDIBLE spiced olives I have ever tasted.

Apparently the food at Canvas is based on spanish-basque-north african cuisines. All new to me, but I am a huge fan of the bold, knowledgeable, joyous use of spices and the most important ingredients of all: love and passion!

Opening Hours: 8.30am – 4pm, 7 days a week (kitchen closes at 2pm)

This review is for Battery World, Welshpool WA

These guys are a life saver! Our brilliant but older model cordless phone had been playing up for ages - we knew it was the battery but couldn't find a stockist. Then we found Battery World Welshpool and they has us sorted in a matter of minutes.

They were happy to give advice over the phone, and then when we turned up to make our purchase we found that they stock just about every kind of battery you could think of. Their knowledge is vast and the service is friendly - can't ask for much more than that!

Delicious Turkish take away food, made with care and pride. Lovely fresh salads. Small dine-in area.

We loved our doner kebabs with the lot, and the spinach and feta pide looked amazing - will try that next time!

This review is for Kian Design Jewellery Studio, South Perth WA

19 Jun 2012

As a Crafstman Jeweller, Kian designs and creates unique, cutting edge jewellery using pearls, precious and semi-precious stones.

By appointment only - I found that the uninterrupted consultations enabled a faster turnaround time with less likelihood of confusion or misunderstandings.

Computer generated modelling gives you a good idea of how your design will turn out, but nothing quite prepares you for the for the rush of excitement when you see your finished item gleaming in its beautiful wooden presentation box!

Kian made me a superb chrysoprase ring - he took the time to source the perfect stone and then located enough chrysoprase beads to create a matching bracelet which I love. I had always thought that the cost of custom made jewellery would be prohibitive, but the prices were surprisingly reasonable.

This review is for Greens & Co., Leederville WA

19 Jun 2012

Bright gig posters paper the walls and the atmosphere is cheery and busy, with all sorts of people dropping in for a quick coffee after dinner or settling in for a long chat or a game of Connect 4 on the comfy sofas.

Greens feels "safe" and family friendly, and this impression is reinforced by the fact that you'll often see police and ambos lining up for their caffeine hit with the rest of us.

The coffee is fine, but given the long queues lining up for service and the inefficient "come when you're called" system, we thought it was a bit pricey. The staff are very pleasant but the system lets them down a bit.

This review is for Lee Wallis Hairdresser, South Perth WA

17 Jun 2012

This fantastic salon in South Shore Plaza offers innovative and highly professional hair care. Friendly, attentive staff take good care of you from the moment you walk in the door.

Meticulous attention to detail is quite apparent as you look around the salon. I have a precision bob and they always take great care to get it right.

Tiered pricing system depending on the experience of the stylist. Park underneath the centre - first hour is free and if your appointment goes longer than that the nice people at Lee Wallis will validate your parking.

If you're looking for a special gift or something bright and pretty for yourself or your home, this place is a brilliant find! The stock always seems fresh and new, and they have made great contacts with local craftspeople who create unique clothing, gifts, greeting cards and home decor items just for them.

Favourite recent purchases include a Brag Bag (a fabulous little bag that you fill with all your personal items and then switch from one handbag to another, saving time when you're getting ready to go out), and a gorgeous double-sided scarf for my Mum for Mother's Day.

It's always a pleasure to shop here because the stock is high quality, reasonably priced and beautifully displayed. Nothing is too much trouble for the lovely ladies at The Front Door, and they even offer a 'gold coin donation' gift wrapping service in support of various charities.

This review is for Overflow Cafe Lounge, Northbridge WA

17 Jun 2012

This place is huge, with seating options ranging from table seating, comfy lounges and an outdoor area for taking full advantage of Perth's lovely weather. Lots of options food wise as well - from delicious take away food (and yummy sweet treats) in the cabinet to a wholesome and varied seasonal menu and excellent value daily specials. They have plenty of room for large bookings, and a stage area for functions and for the live gigs they host on the weekends. Very friendly staff and a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere make the Overflow a great option for breakfast, lunch or snacks, 7 days a week.
