10 reviews about The Workshop Bar

a very boys club - esque melbourne bar, no frills and does what a bar needs to do, provide drinks and a place to hang out with friends

their pizzas are pretty cheap & decent tasting, one huge turn off that i did realize was the amount of smokers in the bar, i guess it's where the smokers hang out and chill

i also like how the bar actually used to be a mechanics workshop, the history makes it so indie and quaint

This place is a power house example of how Melbourne bars should be. It just is what it is. The music is always good and the beer is always cold the menu is simple well priced and delicious not to mention well priced. I really love this place and make a special point of visiting every time I am in the CBD

simple and straight to the point - the beer's the focal point, and that's how it should be!

Overall a very good experience. Good value. AS one of the other reviewers stated it's a place for smokers. I don't smoke so that kind of ambience is not my thing. Nevertheless a very good laid back place for small get togethers. Decent food for the price.

yeah i'm not a smoker either and i did find that there were quite a lot of people smoking

I would love to share my experience with you guys :) I was about to meet my friend at Elizabeth st for coffee. I passed by this place which is near the meeting point. I arrived early so i decided to take a look and I went upstair.. I was so surprise its a lovely cafe/bar .. lovely ambience, beautiful decor, LOVE the layout of this place .. By the time I finished the little tour .. I went downstair to meet my friend and i told her about this cafe/bar. she was excited to have coffee there.. So, we went for a coffee (*FYI - they have discount - student price). Great coffee (perfectly brewed)! The staff were so welcoming, friendly and polite. absolutely value for money .. Highly recommended!!

My new favourite Melbourne bar!
Funky music, casual place to spend a Saturday night. Friendly bar staff, decent drink prices, and plenty of nooks and crannies to get cozy with your friends.
This bar used to be a mechanics workshop, hence the name. It's upstairs on the first floor and has a decent sized open top terrace for the smokers overlooking Elizabeth Street. Not a pretentious bar, very welcoming, yet very very cool.

Approximate cost: $7.50 for basic spirits

Great bar for smokers, but less so for those of us who don't. Unfortunately (I say this because of the smoking mainly), it's a favourite amongst my friends.

They make nice drinks. And decent pizzas (for only $6 or $8). And on Sunday arvos I've seen them do free bbqs (sausage, bread and salad). Okay music, and you can make requests from the DJ.

Great place to grab a drink with a friend. Good music and lighting, and plenty of room for the smokers outside on the balcony. It's a little hidden away so if you are meeting someone who hasn't been there before, for god's sake man, give them some guidance! And it also has beer, what more can you ask for.

Approximate cost: $10

Located upstairs through a door which you would not have known would lead up to a bar. Small cozy place with beer on tap and good music and comfortable seating. Great place to meet friends for a casual drink. Service is friendly.

I love this bar, I love the atmosphere and sitting out on the balcony and having a drink with mates, it really is the perfect setting for a good catch up...provided you don't go on a Friday or Saturday night that is, it's still great but so so busy, you can barely move! Drink prices are reasonable and what you would expect to pay in the CBD, there are some $9-12 cocktails which are quite yummy, a bottle of wine is around $30 with jugs of beer being $15. Staff are great, depending on who you get, there are some lovely ones, but there are also so attitude-y ones! Bread and dips ($9) or a glass of nuts ($5) are good to munch on as you drink and i LOVE the free BBQ from 6pm on Sundays :) I go here at least once a week!

Approximate cost: $10

I really like the atmosphere here - I like having a drink out on the open air decking and the prices aren't bad and they make decent food too. It does get a bit noisy, crowded and very busy though.
