Our experience this year and last year is the same. Now money is their major motivation -this is a business intent on making money. It is not a centre of veterinary excellence that focuses on saving lives. Lots of gimmicks to appear novel - the concierge service is a joke and the water treadmill is often broken or unavailable. You get charged for them doing virtually nothing if you have a really sick animal. Just add 3 zeros for any basic thing that they do - that is their profit margin. Last insult is the Women on desk are arrogant and dont hear anything you ask. Why should they listen just cough up the funds thats all they care about. Only come to SASH if your happy to haemorrhage money because they feel they can justify adding 3 zeros for even a very elementary veterinary procedure that any good local practice could perform. Our family will never ever recommend SASH again

I recently lost my puppy to SASH. They quoted $15-20k for treatment, when I couldnt pay they convinced me to surrender him. They treated him and then rehomed him.

Had the most horrendous, awful experience at this place,They are definately only interested in money,,My little dog left there worse than when I took him in,I had to take him back to my local vet who euthanised him,so after a very expensive over night stay,in which I was misinformed by the day vet treating him,he had to be put to sleep,Still have not gotten over it and never will

Unbelievable, I too on Friday met a specialist whom had no idea what she was doing and a nurse whom made very bad attempt in drawing blood the tapping on her neck took over 20 mins sprayed meth at her and into my face
Then dig around her neck till she screamed
I had to stop it as I found its incompetence
Specifically told them do not dig for the vein if you fail in 1 go
Tiny concern end up with a bruise maybe even a clot
My dog was traumatized
Defeats the purpose of trying to make my dog better its made her worse
Their pride and chase for revenue takes over the idea of animal welfare
I went for the best treatment end up being traumatized
Even when I gave my email they still stuffed up
Even with referral they still stuffed up on communication
When I called back to update a untrained person answered asked me how they could help
Seriously?
If I am to tell you then why do I need you or endorse you ever
Few good vets dont make the whole place great
They need to be audited by the vet board

Vet board are no good they protected sash . Sash vets operated on my dog to remove thymoma. They said he become stronger .He died on day 4 . Vet board said sash did nothing wrong . After they discharged my dog unfit that he looked ,one he had stroke . They should close them down. Like you said few good vets don't make place great

Two years on and they are still just caring about the money and not people or their pets. PLEASE AVOID SASH AT ALL COST.

Our two little dogs are both being treated at SASH, North Ryde & Tuggerah. Chip, after radiotherapy is now on chemo & although nearly 17 yrs is happy, eating & sleeping well. Dale, his twin brother, has recovered wonderfully after surgery for removal of a Mast Cell Tumour, still living life to the max. Yes, we have spent what to us is a fortune but the love, fun & never ending devotion we have experienced with Chip & Dale justifies every cent. They have been treated with respect, kindness, tenderness & love from every SASH member, thank you for every day you have given us with our best mates

I highly recommend SASH to any pet owner whose pet needs specialised care. My beautiful bullmastiff underwent radiation for a rare nerve tumour. While the diagnosis was dispiriting, Dr Neil Christensen and nurses Jenni and Sonia from Radiation Oncology consulted and supported my family through every step of the process.

Dr Christensen is a fantastic oncologist who went above and beyond to treat my dog. Even after we completed treatment, Dr Christensen took time to address any relevant concerns and consulted with other specialists from Neurology and Ophthalmology to ensure his advice was accurate. Jenni and Sonia build excellent rapport with pet patients, so much so that my mastiff almost seemed sad to go home!

The fact that SASH is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year gave me peace of mind. I knew that if an emergency were to arise I could take my dog straight there where his medical history was readily accessible. The administrative staff were highly organised and efficient, and particularly helpful with pet insurance claims.

Thank you to everyone SASH and especially the Radiation team for doing such a fantastic job.

Horrible, not interested in helping you or your pet..only after money, they quote you on tests then overcharge and add things later without you knowing then you are stuck having to pay things you were not told about, the aftercare is poor. Bad communication & phone manner by staff, such a disappointing place, I will not be back.

Approximate cost: $2800

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS HOSPITAL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!

If it was possible to leave 0 stars, I would.
This Practice only cares about money and not about the client or the pet. Their services are extremely over priced and they provide unnecessary treatments for your pet in order to inflate the bill.
Avoid this hospital at all costs, they will only steal your money!

maryrosez 22 Oct 2020

I agree totally they are all about money don't care about your pet . I lost $17;000 And my dog died few days after sash done surgery . They should be shot

I wish I had of read all these comments before I took my puppy to SASH. I may still have him. All they are interested in is your money.

My Staffy had test done at our local vet. Local vet was so sure our dog had a tumour in eye . vet said it would mean removing the eye put glass eye . I nearly fainted when vet told my husbund and i this. Years ago lovely Kate Hindley helped us save REXES eye our cat. so we deceided to go back to SASH and see Kate again. Kate has a way with pets .she cares and is so professional. tests where done. and was not a tumour but inflammation in eye. Pooka our staffy is almost healed with the meds. A special thank you to Kate, all staff from Sash that helped with Pooka's recovery. And reception staff too. every one at SASH is friendly and caring. We live 2 hours away from North Ryde. But it was worth it. kind regards Mary rose & Sam.

Three weeks ago, our 11.5-year-old Jack Russell Terrier (Cooper), who had been diagnosed with Addison’s disease in 2007 at SASH, was referred to SASH urgently by our local vet.

Cooper had become unwell again after treatment by our local vet a week earlier. This time, he was shivering and refused to drink, eat or take his daily medications. He had developed diarrhea, mucous discharge from his nostrils and was found to have a fever at the local vet. All his recent blood tests, x-rays and ultrasound results and a referral letter were urgently sent to SASH while Cooper, my mum and I made our way there.

While the SASH receptionist was polite and empathetic and the triage nurse attended to us rapidly, we were utterly disappointed with the services provided by the vets as outlined below.

We were left waiting for 2 hours before Cooper was reviewed by one of the emergency vets. Being from a medical background myself, I understood the urgency of the situation. Having had Addison’s disease for 10 years and being on steroids for that entire time, Cooper’s body was unable to cope with illness and infection and needed urgent treatment otherwise he would quickly go into shock. Despite this being suggested by myself, it took another 4 hours later before treatment was commenced.

Unfortunately, treatment (antibiotics, steroids, fluids) was only commenced after Cooper’s health had already deteriorated to the point that I received a call that he was “obtunded” and that he would need admission to ICU once stabilized, which would cost another $1000+ extra. Within an hour, I received a 2nd call to inform me that Cooper had gone into cardiac arrest and died.

My request to speak with the specialist in internal medicine was never met. I was told he was too busy while we were at the hospital and that I would receive a phone call that afternoon. I never received a phone call from him. In fact, when I called in the late afternoon, he had still not even reviewed Cooper. This was less than 1 hour before I received the phone call to inform me Cooper had deteriorated.

Even more shocking and distressing than the inadequate medical management provided to Cooper, was the complete lack of empathy shown by the vet towards him. Cooper was unwell. He was shivering, weak and tired. Instead of carrying a small, sick, 5kg dog into their treatment area, Cooper was promptly placed on the floor after we passed him to the vet, leashed and dragged away from us. This last image of Cooper alive will forever be imprinted on our minds.

One thing I can say the SASH vet did incredibly well was apply charges and he was excellent at informing me of the estimated costs throughout the brief admission. The initial estimated cost of a 2-day admission was nearly $5000. He was also very prompt in letting me know the ICU admission would cost an extra $1000+ for the night (Cooper never made it to ICU, by the way). Included in the initial estimated cost were unnecessary investigations that did not contribute to diagnosis or management of Cooper. An example was a test costing hundreds of dollars to diagnose Addison’s disease (which had been diagnosed definitively 10 years ago). Dogs with Addison’s disease on lifelong treatment do not suddenly stop having Addison’s disease. It is a lifelong illness.

The final payment was approximately $1400 (for just over 6 hours of “treatment”). The final slap in the face was that SASH still required me to pay an extra $200+ on top of the $1200 deposit I had paid when Cooper was initially admitted. The request for me to pay this extra amount came immediately after we had said our final goodbyes to Cooper and he had been taken away to store prior to collection for cremation.

Overall, we were disappointed at the care provided for Cooper at SASH during this admission. It was vastly different to the care he had received 10 years ago, which we had been very pleased with. For all animal lovers and owners, we hope this is an anomaly, not their new norm.

Approximate cost: $1400

My dog got diagnosed with cancer almost 2 years ago, he was 12 at the time and we questioned 'should we put him through the treatment'. We decided he had more fight left in him and went with the cheemo and a operation to remove the cancer. SASH have been fantastic and he is better than ever, more energy than ever and it was completely the best decision we have ever made. Yes the cost was a lot but worth every penny. SASH have been unbelievable the whole time
