I go here with my friends for coffee and breakfast/brunch/lunch quite regularly. The food is always good, the smashed avocado and banana bread are highly recommended. Other menu items are also good and I've never been disappointed. The coffee can sometimes be a little warm (you have to drink it straight away), and the place gets really really busy. The staff are not always the friendliest...but all in all...good experience! Since the renovation they have lots of different spaces to enjoy, with communal tables, couches, outdoor bench seats, outdoor open spaces and inside seating. They are however quite expensive, but a lot of cafes these days are - the only issue is, that they're cash only...although there is an ATM next door...it's a little inconvenient and surely they bring enough revenue to be able to afford/justify eftpos!

We go here regularly for coffee and for breakfast. It has a buzzy atmosphere, a great menu and the coffee is good. Don't worry if there is a queue for a table - the staff are pretty good at getting you in and seated quickly and it is worth the wait.

A really great place to go for a coffee, intimate and they let you take your time over a long brunch without trying to rush you out. Great quality food, they do a really good couscous. amazing coffee, a little annoying for parking.

A hidden gem! I regularly come here for coffee and their coffee is very good - smooth, strong and creamy. The staff are friendly. Porgies is a little small, which adds to the ambience, but it is difficult to find a seat on weekends; worth the wait though!

This is one of Melbourne's better cafes. The food is exceptional and the coffee is great. I had a wonderful Mocha and the famous Smashed Avocado dish which is fabulous. A little pricey but well worth it.

we found porgies just last weekend, and have been back three times. the staff already know our names... and its already like coming home each day!!! the food is amazing. their avocado dish with mushies and persian feta is to die for. this is truly what we think one of the best cafes we have been to, and cant wait for the new year (they are closed for their 'annual' hioliday and re open on the 6th jan i think :( It is always flat chat there, especially apparently on the weekends and they have a no booking policy. I am going to have my 28th birthday there, as they do private dinners too!!!

Approximate cost: $14

Porgie and Mr Jones is a quiet unassuming cafe - you dont think much by looking at it. in fact i have driven past it 1000 times and not even thought twice. This is an uncovered diamond sitting in the rough bit of the auburn road shops. It is near the riversdale pub - not the glam end of auburn road. the service is a little slow, but the ambience, the food and especially the coffee are totally worth the wait. Hats off to porgie and mr jones!! i'll be back - most weekends.

Approximate cost: $12
