I really enjoy the zoo and normally take my young sisters along to make a more enjoyable day. I do like to visit everything so take comfy walking shoes. The prices inside the zoo for food & drinks are expensive so take your own if you can! I find Perth zoo is very well kept, it's clean and safe for little ones in terms of fences etc. There is lots to see, from your main zoo animals ie Elephants, Orangutans etc to Aussie animals like the kangaroos. We love the crocs as well. I don't think it's that expensive for entry considering you can spend a whole day there. Try and look at the show times beforehand so that you can make the most of your visit, the elephant show is my fav.

Really great place to go, and thankfully it is still rather inexpensive to visit. Great range of well kept animal enclosures, including walkthroughs where you can get up close to them in their natural habitat (well as close to natural as you can get in a zoo).

Love the zoo!
Grandchildren always clamour for the zoo especially during the holidays, so definietly apply to be a member there and get good rates.
Good variety of animals, and the place is well kept.
Food and drinks ther should be cheaper, otherwise just bring your own

Been a family member zoo pass for the last three years.
Good value considering the dearth of family entertainment which is wholesome and interesting for kids aged 3 - 12 now.
Nice to have a day out with ur grandkids, n a gd learning experience for them too..
Still pales in comparison to other australian n international zoos though..

Perth zoo is great! I went there a few months ago whilst on holidays and it is MUCH better value than the sydney and melbourne zoo's! It has a nature type walk feel, allowing you to feel more involved with the animals. It was relatively quiet too. The souvenir shop, and novelty photo's were also great, and great value. Only takes a few hours to get through the whole zoo though.

I had a fantastic day at the Perth Zoo recently with my family on a public holiday (quite busy - with lots of other families!). The surroundings are still beautiful, the enclosures are continually improved (with the emphasis being on the animals) and I love that there are many areas where you are "inside" with some of the animals (some of the bird enclosures, Australian animals etc).

It's also great that the nocturnal house is now open until 5pm (when I was a kid - you only had a few short hours to be able to visit this section). We went through around 4pm and it was wonderful as we were able to spot most of the animals as they were moving around a fair bit (I think they'd just been fed).

The African section is still one of my favourite areas - I absolutely love the enclosure with the giraffes (including a baby at the moment) and zebras. Superb!

Lastly, the food is very overpriced! It wouldn't be so bad if you knew a chunk of the money was going back into the zoo, but I think the food outlets are privately run...
Definitely pack a picnic and plenty of snacks if you can (there are bbq facilities there if you feel like cooking!).

The zoo is finally completely smoke free too - hooray!
Just watch out around the main entrance.... Sadly, there is still plenty of cigarette smoke there (and you can't escape it when you're lining up at the admission gate).

Great value for money - especially if you take up a Zoo Friend membership and plan on revisting a few more times within a 12 month period. Under 4s are free - so it's great for visiting with the littlies!

Check their website in advance to see what areas may be "off-display or under construction" - this could save a lot of heartache if you or the kids are wanting to see a a particular animal (no penguins for us this time - their enclosure was still being repaired).

A fantastic outdoor experience and my family can't wait to visit again.

Excellent place to go for a fun day. They do some fantastic conservation work too, especially with the native animals and with orangutans (see their Palm Oil campaign).

Most of the other Zoos in Australia could take a leaf out of this book. It's the cheapest entry prices in the country! So why do the others struggle with overpriced entry fees? This zoo is so beautifully natural. Cages are non-existent except for the bird life(obviously) and it's such a relaxed environment. There are friendly volunteers to guide you around if you wish and there are lots of lawns and seats for resting. We spent the most of the day there and enjoyed it all. Food was a bit expensive as in all of these places and I recommend that anyone with children take a picnic lunch!

The Perth Zoo is great went there in the school hoildays and the kids loved it. The Zebra Mobile was a great way to see the zoo $10.00 for a hour was great. Their was lots of activities to do as well, the kids loved making a Cockatoo Snack, they learnt how to make a snack for the cockatoo's and why each peice of food was good for the birds to eat.
The price of the food was sooo expensive, they had stall type food outlets which arent run or profit the zoo. 2 Sausages in a hot dog roll with sauce cost $11.50 had i known this before I'd of taken our lunch and the people we went with. Pretty good though. Will go again.

Approximate cost: $18.00

Perth Zoo was again a great experience as it was four years ago when we were over here from Adelaide last time. Meandering through the zoo along the pathways to the various exhibits was truly like wandering through a jungle waiting with baited breath wondering what is around the next corner. A different aspect or vantage point for the animal that you had just left or and entirely new glimpse of another specimen. It was sometimes like playing a hidden object game trying to spot the animal amid the undergrowth, foliage and camouflage which represents its natural habitat. Occasionally along the way we encountered several of the friendly staff who greeted us with a friendly gesture and were ready to answer any queries one may have had at the time. I managed to take some magic video clips of the occasion just in case we are unable to make it back again. A thoroughly interesting and enjoyable experience which lasted just over 5 hours and was only terminated because our elderly legs could not go any further.
