I don't understand why the long wait for this establishment. Prices are high, small servings on food that is just ok. My favorite item was the grilled corn (to best I have ever eaten) but other than that I would not be back. Yes they claim this is based on fresh and healthy Mexican - not the fatty, cheesy tex-mex but there didn't seem to be much skill to these dishes... So why are the long lines for Mamasita???

I was so looking forward to going to Mamasita, as I just adore Mexican food, I'd seen great reviews about it, plus it looked great on their website. Sadly, after a 45 minute wait for a table, it proved to be a let down in every aspect. The seating is very cramped (and I'm a very slim person), the atmosphere dingy, and I found the food quite bland. The only way to get both flavour & spice was to add some of the hot sauce provided on the table. I was in a group of four, so as recommended, we shared a number of dishes. I'm not a big eater at all, but left there feeling hungry. The cost was outrageous for the food type and portions served. Overall, a very disappointing experience. I will not be going back.

For a starter, me and my girlfriends had the elotes callejeros (Corn) and tortila chips with salsa and guacamole. Once we started to eat the chips with the dips.. we just can not stop. For a drink - we ordered a jug of margaritas.. it was very refreshing! We also had the tacos and quesadillas.. It is very authentic Mexican food. Will go back again.

The Mexican experience was amazing here, truly authentic! For me it gave me a real idea of what Mexican food tastes like, and WOW! Great prices also! Service was spot on, meals came out fast and drinks continued to flow. Recommend this place to anyone.

Only con is the waiting time, we had a heads up on this and went at 6pm - still had to wait an hour to get a seat, but we thought it was worth the wait =)

Approximate cost: $15-25

So delicious!!! You definitely need to go. But I hate that you can't book a table. Although you'd probably never get one because there'd be a waitlist two years long.

The most amazing authentic Mexican you can possibly get in Melbourne! Every dish is mouth-watering, particularly the ceviche (raw fish marinated in citrus juices) and the corn cobs.

The only issue I have with this place is that the lines are ridiculous, but that obviously just proves how amazing this place is! Also, some of the wait staff can be a bit rude, but most of them are lovely.

Huge lines show how popular this place is. Food was good but I still don't think it was worth it. I was impressed with the home made corn chips, they were pretty good and the salsas.

Approximate cost: $16.00

The food is delicious and unique! We were initially told 45-60 minutes for waiting time but it was more like 25-35, and we were pleasantly surprised. Fantastic service from our waitress as well. Highly recommend the grilled corn on the cob and the margarita is a must-order as well!

Approximate cost: $30

This place has the best grilled corn! I've been here twice - the first time was for a friend's birthday and we had a group booking (more than 8 people), so we had to go on the set menu - 6 or 7 courses/dishes, which was approx. $40/head.

6-7 courses sounds a lot, but some of the meals are quite small - they brought out a board of corn chips with an amazing topping on it, but we all just had 1 chip.
The main was chicken, rice and salad to share, which was amazing. The chicken was very tender and had heaps of flavour.

Given the price of the set menu, I'd rather go with a smaller group and each order a main, for around $30. The only issue with a smaller group is that you'll probably have to wait for over an hour for a table (if you're going there for dinner on a Friday or Saturday). The second time I came here (Had the goat; it was cooked to perfection - it just melted in my mouth!), we had to wait for over 1.5 hours. But once a table was free, they also gave us each a free glass of sangria, which was very nice!

Would love to come here more regularly, but the wait can be very annoying. I would still recommend them to anyone looking for a Mexican Restaurant in the CBD.

Approximate cost: $30

The food is great - just annoying that you can't book and they get so busy so early.... you have to wait for ages for a table. On the bright side they will take your phone number so you can go and have a drink while you wait for the table.
After the wait to finally be seated, the food is really good. It's fresh and light for mexican food. The corn on the cob is a must!
