I have taken my German Shorthaired Pointers to the FTG Vet Clinic for just on 30 years, and, the service and quality of care has remained constantly in the excellent range of service.

Very recently, my 15 year old female (Lenni,) told us her time was up - having been diagnosed with cancer previously.

We arranged for a visit by one of the Vets and a Nurse to come to our home and to assist in Lenni's crossing. These people are incredibly empathic and compassionate, while remaining highly professional. This is not the first time we have called upon their services at home. Yet again, nothing was rushed and we were kept informed throughout the whole process. Eventually Lenni slipped away in my arms, and whilst obviously an emotional time, Marta and Fiona made it so much easier with the manner in which they treated Lenni and our family.

Whether in the clinic or in the home, the staff are ALL really caring folk who know their professions and treat our 4-legged family members with quality care. Thank you all!

Staff member held my pet behind a locked glass door, showing him and taking him away twice saying she had forgotten something, traumatising and starting to do this a third time, refusing to give him to me though I had paid her more than the invoice. Finally, when I had him she ordered me to take my pet out of my arms. She said feeding my pet high-quality food meant he is 'fussy'.
The actual vet I saw is knowledgeable and honest, said nothing was wrong with my pet, she is good - and merits a better place. Reception staff had said I must come in 'if I care about' my pet. Unfortunately this practice is threatening and unsafe, not one that treats pets and owners with care and respect.
I went to FGVH looking for a reliable vet, and extremely disappointing that the staff member was abusive.

I used to take my cat to this vet and I will never go back. On one occasion, they glanced at his teeth and said they were fine. After we asked them to recheck, they found that he had gingivitis and he had to have three teeth surgically removed because he would have been in a great deal of pain when eating. If we had not asked them to recheck, he would've been in pain for another year until his next check-up.

However, the worst incident which confirmed that we will never go back involved the rudeness and inappropriateness of the head vet nurse there. My cat gets stressed going to the vet since they neutered him (as do most cats), but on this occasion, he was more stressed than usual. They "took him out the back", I could hear growling, and he was brought back inside a net. When the nurse was putting him back in his carrier, she very rudely snapped at me "You have to be confident with your cat, or you're putting us all in danger." She then proceeded to throw him in the carrier and bang his paw with a tissue box until he pulled it inside. He continued growling until the second we got back to the car, at which point I opened the door of his carrier and he crawled out and curled up on my lap. He shook the whole way home and shakes every time we take him to the vet now.

It was horribly inappropriate of her to imply that my cat is a generally aggressive pet and that I "should know how to deal with it" when he NEVER acts that way at home or around me. After talking to a vet nurse friend, she was horrified said that some vet clinics just DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH CATS and have no idea how to reduce stress for them. I will only be taking him to cat-only clinics from now on, because they understand the nuanced behaviour of these animals and show compassion and expertise in dealing with the stress that they feel.

Approximate cost: $200

my cat Elizabeth aka (lizzie) has being going to this vet practice for 16 of her 20 years, she is a cantacarious old sweetheart, the staff at this clinic have put up with her mood swings, and sometimes moments of anger, with professional care and respect, in clipping her nails, and in the past few years, mark given her fluids etc for her kidneys, I have nothing, nothing but praise for the team there. they are thorough and compassionate, I have had all my animals treated there, my two old cats, lived to be 19, were cared by them, my darling stormy girl, golden retriever also under their care, passed at 14 from old age, my beautiful golden rescue girl Harriet, received only the best, thorough treatment, mark always explains thoroughly what is wrong , the options for treatment, costs etc. the girls at reception are very friendly, and competent, when I lost my harriet a month ago to cancer, they were so compassionate, with flowers and a card and follow up call to see if I was o.k.
all in all I couldn't think of one negative comment about this veterinary clinic.

We have been going to this vet clinic for 30 years, we have mostly been happy with them, but I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM FOR CLIPPING OF CLAWS ... We took our 15 year old cat there a few weeks ago to have his claws clipped and they must have held him down with such BRUTE FORCE that he is struggling to walk now, I did the right thing and took him back for a second opinion, one of the senior vets looked at him and said ' there's nothing wrong with him ' , but he should live with him, he is obviously injured, he can't walk properly and I now have to lift him up and down, he struggles every moment of every day. When I took him back he was obviously scared, maybe remembering what had happened to him the previous time, he was so scared he urinated in his cage, which he has never done before and when the vet went to touch his legs to have a look at him, the cat hissed at him and put up his claws, the vet jumped back and said, ' most people would put him down "...I still cannot believe he responded this way, he also had the audacity to say that the person who clipped his claws should be given a gold medal !!! The person who clipped his claws has now left the practice and gone elsewhere, but the person who helped hold him down may still work there. l have lost total confidence in this veterinary clinic and cannot now recommend them to anyone. L have read some of the other reviews and yes we used to think the world of this clinic, but have noticed that over the recent years the quality of care is not the same, another example l took my cat there to have a small operation on an abcess below his ear on the side of his face, in the years past when we would get similar operations done we also were treated very well, but the last time l could see the difference in the quality of care when they handed him back to me and he was literally caked in pus over his face, it had dried hard, they hadn't even bothered to clean him up before giving him back to me. l have made a number of phone calls to this clinic and still not one vet or nurse or anyone from there has even bothered to follow up and see how my cat is doing, well to the person who held him down unnecessarily tight on that day, that he simply went in to be pampered and have his claws clipped by the experts, he has suffered neck trauma and possibly nerve damage and the quality of his life has been severely affected. Please do not hold any cats down so unnecessarily in the future ever again, if you had come out to me , who was waiting just around the corner, if you had told me how he really was struggling so much , l would have cancelled the claw clipping session. You have no idea how much we love this cat and what he has been through in his life and a day which l thought would be easy to get the experts to clip his claws, has ruined his life and also made it a hell of a lot harder for us too, no matter how sick my pets get in the future...... I WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PET TO THIS VETERINARY HOSPITAL. I also had him vaccinated so between the two, the vaccination and the claw clipping and the subsequent re-visit l was charged a total of $ 184. To be honest, they should refund my money, but when l suggested that, they didn't agree, obviously.

Approximate cost: $184

The team at Ferntree Gully Vets are absolutely fantastic - I can't describe the compassion they showed when I had to let my beloved Boris journey to the Rainbow Bridge - and during the lead up to this incredibly hard decision. They always accommodated my visits while he was in hospital, shared my pain when he passed and even gave me a beautiful card and plant when I picked his ashes up. I can't thank you all enough guys.

I have been taking my two Labradors to Ferntree Gully Veterinary Hospital for over 8 years. All I can do is speak very highly of this veterinary hospital. My girls have received excellent care, from puppy school to recovering from major surgery. My older lab was diagnosed with Mast Cell Tumors 2 years ago, Amy and Ying and the rest of the team have been amazing with her recovery and prolonging her life. From the initial shock of receiving bad news to routine visits for vaccinations or a 3 monthly lump check, every visit we are made to feel comfortable and it is never too much trouble taking both girls to visit at the same time.
The vets are exceptionally caring, friendly and provide the very best treatment plans for my girls. Unfortunately we have left the hills and we will miss the quality care provided by Amy and Ying and the rest of the team. Thank you for caring for my girls.

We have used Ferntree Gully Veterinary Hospital with 2 of our dogs since moving to the hills 8 years ago. They have always been very thorough and are really friendly and helpful, with everything from allergies to cruciate ligament operations and recovery plans. Always a park right out the front and a treat for an anxious pup.

I have been taking my animals to this Veterinary Clinic for 6 years. I was happy at first, but since they have put on some new Vets I haven't been happy. They speak to clients in a condescending manner.
In 2013 I took both my dogs to a consultation that was for one dog only. The Vet said she had better check other dogs ears. The dog with the ear infection was from a puppy farm and it had clearly been untreated for a long time. My existing pup did not have any ear problems, but I was charged for a full consultation fee.
My dog from the puppy farm had/has many health issues and I felt this Vet Clinic was not suitable for her needs.

Approximate cost: $120.

I have been taking my pets here for years and they have always taken the utmost care of them. They are always helpful, explain everything fully and very compassionate. The building is easy to find and plenty of parking too.
