Very disappointing experience. The service or lack of it was unbelievable, the meal was not any better, the wine list was OK but limited . Definitely won't be going back.

I think da uday has the best chicken parmas in ballarat! Definitely worth a try for all you Parma lovers! It's a traditional Parma but covered in a creamy sauce!

Not sure why this place seems to do so well as the food is quite average and a lot of it shows not even an attempt at authenticity. The Thai curries are NOT remotely Thai style in any way. Having had many Thai curries in Thailand, as well as Melbourne and Ballarat, I know what to expect, however the Thai curry sauces here do not have the coconut cream consistency (or flavour) and seem to be just pureed vegetables with varying amounts of spices, more similar to Indian style curries. One of the waitresses was very good, however the other physically pushed past customers rather than saying 'excuse me' and politeness seemed an effort for her. People seem to go here because of the extensive and varied menu, however a smaller, focussed menu done well leaves a broad, poorly executed menu for dead any day. We only ever go here when someone else has chosen to as a group and have always been disappointed.

Approximate cost: $20

Thanks for a great, detailed review! We have heard many state that this business is, 'Jack of all trades, but Master of none' and this appears to be in tune with what you are saying. Thanks for the heads-up! Reeces

Great location, you can walk there from Sovereign Hill accommodation. The food was fine, though nothing to really get excited about. Also a nice setting.

so yummy! Good to have a different type of eatery in Ballarat. The chairs are rickety and the floors creek a bit, but that just adds to the fun!

Always a treat to dine at Da Uday. Fantastis choice of Indian and Thai dishes and reasonably priced. The decor is delightful, although the tables can be a bit too close together at times. I have a B&B nearby and often recommend Da Uday to my guests. Without exception, they have all thanked me for such a good recommendation.

Me:
Quality: The food I had was average. Definitely good but I've had better - maybe because they try to cover so much ground.

Service: I thought the wait staff were being very helpful until they sat a family with a screaming three year old next to our little sleeping baby (in an almost empty room).

Value: Overall price for a three course meal was as expected.

Overall: I would only go there if I had a group of people that were very fussy about the style of food they liked, because of the range. However, if I want Indian, Thai or Italian I'll go to another restaurant.

My wife:
The entire experience was approx. pub quality. There's nothing on the menu that you couldn't do better at home. Average selections executed in an average way. All the rice was standard long grain (no jasmine for Thai food, no basmati for Indian food). Desserts were all stock standard, shipped in from elsewhere pub style. Vegetables were completely missing from main dishes. My particular main meal was poorly done (salmon instead of white fish).

Also the Coffee machine was broken, which meant no hot drinks of any kind were available.

Approximate cost: $12-20

Hi Bmioch, appreciated the detail given and agree with your comments. Regards, Reeces

Da Uday was a surprisingly good experience. The breadth of the medu at the restaurant has to be seen to be believed and even with such a menu, the food was terrific. Da Uday has a family home sort of feel and the waitress that served us was very pleasant. Da Uday was a great place to eat. I highly recommend it.

We used womow on the weekend to find a new restaurant to try in Ballarat and we were not disappointed. Just as previous reviews claimed DaUday offers a massive menu covering italian, indian and thai and the service was fantastic. With a nice venue, reasonable prices and good food (loved the mango ice cream for dessert) I'm sure we'll go back.

Approximate cost: $19.00
