I would not recommend this cafe. The menu stated "the Roast is back" so my partner and I ordered roast pork only to be told 5 mins later they had sold out of both pork and beef roast. This is 12.30pm. Sooner be told the truth! Told of 2 soups available one of which was Minestrone. We ordered Minestrone each. Waited 10+ mins. Worst I have ever had! Tasted like canned tomatoes with frozen vegetables including lots of capsicum! Served with 2 meagre pieces of soggy toast. $10 a serve. Will never return. Spoilt what was otherwise a nice day in the Dandenongs.

I love this Cafe. It's in a great location, their coffee is delicious and the staff is always really friendly. I make a point of stopping by whenever I'm in the area.

A friend and I called into the Blue Gum Cafe in Monbulk for lunch a couple of weekends ago and had a very enjoyable time. The food was really tasty and there was plenty to choose from. In fact there was so much to choose from that my friend also bought some extra to take home. she told me later that the scalloped potatoes and savory muffin almost didn't make it to dinner time but I was told they were delicious. Her husband wanted more. What was nice was that the menu was simple but had enough variety to be interesting as well. Sometimes there are too many exotic things on a menu that don't always appeal to me and I look for a bit of comfort food that still has to be tasty. I believe that this Cafe has changed hands and the staff were very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. I'd go back anytime.

I am a pensioner and go out with a friend most Fridays. Sometimes we wish to go out locally for a meal and Blue Gum Cafe fits the bill. For me a 2 course meal (chicken parma with salad and chips, lemon meringue pie and a large capacchino for about $24) fits the bill. It is not the cheapest but for a meal (as opposed to a snack or light meal) I prefer ir. The servings are generous. I know that Seniors Meals are available for less but not in Monbulk (that I am aware of). This is probably because the ones I know of are attached to hotels, pubs or clubs and they can subsidise the cost with the purchase of drinks and pokies. The owners also know I drink a lot of water and they automatically give me a large bottle and 2 glasses. The staff stop and talk to us and as we frequent them they are getting to know us. I also go there for either a meal or morning or afternoon tea with other friends.
They have a selection of light and main meals, snacks and cakes and desserts. As far as I know they don't serve alcohol or are licensed as a BYO.

This cafe has great 'basic' food for lunches. My husband doesn't like very fancy cafe food, so he loves the home made pies, roast beef and scalloped potatoes. They have lasagne and they make great sandwiches as well. All tasty and well made. It's the perfect spot for a hearty lunch in the middle of Monbulk. There are so many interesting shops in Monbulk that you can spend hours strolling along the street!

Have been on a number of occasions. Really nice coffee, fresh homemade pies. Central to all shops in Monbulk. Their Cauliflower Cheese pies are to die for. Food is always consistent. Great range of homemade cakes too

Approximate cost: $15
