I had home and contents insurance with the RACV for years. I had always been happy with their service and had no real complaints until the last renewal letter I received from them. I had missed a call from them, and the voice message said they had some price changes, and I could call about my renewal letter when it arrived. I was expecting a bit of an increase, I was not prepared for they had sent me. My previous year had cost around $500. My renewal letter was for over $5000! I couldn't believe what I was reading and thought it was a typo, but they really had increased my bill by 1000%. The reason they gave was to do with the flooding in Queensland, and my house being in a suburb with a river that has flooded in the past. I actually live close to a new bridge that was built in this location because it was judged as flood safe. I was absolutely disgusted. I heard that this happened to other people too. I swapped to another company that offered me full flood coverage for a little more than I had payed the previous year. I wouldn't recommend the RACV to anyone after this experience.

I did change companies. I got quotes from every company I could think of, and none of them quoted anywhere near that high. They all offered flood cover for a reasonable price. I went with a company that charged just over $600, big difference compared to $5000, and they have flood coverage.

I went into the local RACV shop to get a quote on home insurance, the staff were amazing and did everything they could to help and after reading the policy booklet I can suspect that the quality of their insurance products are as outstanding as their roadside. The only letdown was their pricing on the quotation, as it was greatly above PAR. The price I was quoted, included a 10% discount for being a long serving member, and they included a further 10% discount due to my car insurance being currently with RACV, however the price was still in excess of double the other providers I had received quotations from. (Quotation from RACV was $2684.83, the nearest competitor with equivalent cover was $1401.22... a mear $1283.61 difference...)

I agree RACV is expensive for insurance but I have been told by friends that they are a very good insurer though

Massive rip off! I have combined policies with RACV & yep even with the all the multi discounts I know I could do better elsewhere. Perhaps it's time I shopped around.

My Ages Parents are with RACV and have been all of their driveing lives now in their 80's.

They had a VERY nasty accident a little while back where their car and caravan was totally written off. The SES was called to the scene along with other's a full report was sent to the RACV.

All expenses were covered even the cost of the replacement of the brake change over, tyres, full service of the car and caravan before the massive trip. They took such care of my Parents they couldn't do enough for them, I would recommend them to anyone.

I recently suffered hailstone damage to my home and called RACV (my insurer) to inquire about coverage under my insurance policy.

They were easy to deal with, very prompt to assess and approve my claim - and all that without having to fill out any forms nor haggle about work that was covered under my policy.
