Maesri Thai is a humble but warm little dine-in and take-away restaurant near the corner of Ipswich Road and Chaucer Street, almost at the end of the Magic Mile and a 2 minute walk from Moorooka Train Station. Husband and wife Greg and Bung-On serve up a lovely array of Thai dishes, some well-known (such as their delicious Pad Thai), and some I've not seen repeated in any other restaurant (Yum Plar Grob, which I now get every time I dine there - softly deep fried pieces of succulent fish in a simple, tangy tamarind-dressed salad of red onion, tomato, cucumber and cashews). Bung-On is the main cook, and Greg and the staff are wonderfully attentive, and you can BYO with no corkage fee - even better! They're open every day except Sunday from about 11am to 2pm and then from 5pm to 9pm.

Approximate cost: $17
