This review is for Cicerello's, Mandurah WA

After visiting Cicerello's in Fremantle we went to try Cicerello's in Mandurah. The same four of us went upstairs after ordering six pieces of fish and minimum chips 2 small bottles of wine and 2 beers. Once again we had hardly sat down when our order was ready. It wasn't that busy but it was still good service. Once again as in Freo we had a picky chip eater and a Pom and once again as in Freo the whole meal was scoffed . Both Cicerello's scored well in our books. Great fish - batter just right, great chips cooked to perfection and great views, what more could anyone want.

This is the second time we have been to Cicerellos in Fremantle, the first time was great and this time was also great. I was with my wife who is very picky when it comes to chips, and also in our party was a Pom who almost lives on fish and chips. Me - I'll eat any thing. But between the four of us we ordered six pieces of fish and minimum chips and scoffed the lot. The place was pretty crowded but we had no sooner sat down when our order was ready. Good speedy service great fish and chips. The scenery is fantastic, sitting out side with a view of the harbour. It may have been a little chilly this time but great all the same.

This review is for E-Shed Markets, Fremantle WA

Good diversity of stands products and merchandise. Most markets these days though are all clothing, bags, soaps and scents nick-knacks, brick-a-brack food and souvenirs. Lots of stalls all crammed together in a gigantic shed. But in all seriousness, a good place to while away a couple of hours and you could spend some money quite easily.

We did this tour four years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it then but I think this time the whole tour and commentary was even better. This time the guide was Peter and I feel his attention to detail was better, his description of the conditions back then was chilling, his relation of some of the prisoners conniving antics and schemes was comical and his rendition of the punishment and discipline handed down to the prisoners was horrendously brutal. The cramped, unhygienic and downright degrading conditions experienced by the prisoners of the day is a far cry from the hotel like establishments the prisoners have to put up with today.

This review is for Walkabout Souvenirs, Mandurah WA

A well stocked souvenir shop with a goodly range of wares. the assistant was busily doing a crossword puzzle as we walked in. As we perused the stock I asked him if he had my size it a t-shirt I wanted. He immediately downed his pen and came to my assistance. As I gathered more goodies he asked if he could relieve me of my intended purchases so I could continue shopping un-laden. He also did the same thing to my wife. I thoroughly commend this chap for his friendliness, courteousness, attentiveness and service to our needs. More of this type of service is greatly needed in this day and age.

This review is for Roc Candy, Perth WA

Tucked away in a small arcade off Murray Street Mall was a little shop which caught our eyes. The chap was tipping some red liquid over a tray containing what looked like molten toffee, stirring it so it appeared a red mass of molten goo. He repeated the process in purple and then white. As the goo started to cool he gradually scraped it into a massive coloured blob. this he did with the purple and red mass but the white mass he put on a hook and stretched and pulled it till it was white and shiny. He then combined this coloured goo together in a special way to make a great wad of coloured cylindrical mass. As it was cooling he was drawing it into a thinner cylinder about the size of a finger, all the while the mass was gradually cooling. When it had cooled sufficiently he cut off pieces about half an inch long and hey presto! - roc candy with a purple love heart in the centre, with a white background surrounded by a red border. Very entertaining. The variety of designs ranged from football logos, words, letters, insignia, the range it seemed was only limited by your imagination.

This review is for Dolphin Explorer, Port Adelaide SA

We took the Dolphin Explorer cruise on the Port River last Sunday. Bigger boat, more stable, plenty of room and good views from all decks. The cost of $16 for cruise and lunch or $6 for the cruise only. The meals looked quite adequate and good choices for the $10 extra and the snacks, if you decide to take the cruise only are very reasonable. Good selection of beverages whether you require the strong stuff or the week stuff. The staff are courteous and friendly when servicing tables and dealing with your requirements. Where else, these days, can you get 2 hours of relaxation on an idealistic cruise generous views of a placid Port River, an occasional glimpse of a dolphin or two, sun streaming through the window on a glorious Spring day. The only small downfall was that it was hard to hear the informative and expert commentary as we made our way down the river. An excellent day out.

This review is for Laubman & Pank Optometrists, Ingle Farm SA

I have visited Laubman & Pank Optometrists at Ingle Farm a number of times now and the latest visit has prompted me to write this review. My eye test was done efficiently and professionally, keeping me posted on all the procedures all the way through. Other tests were also done also in a most proficient manner, together with explanations and answering any questions that arose during the test. The selection of frames and prices were handled in an equally professional manner whilst endeavoring to cater for my every need and request. The cost was also very reasonable. Extremely diligent, friendly and obliging would aptly describe all the staff in this establishment. Very Happy - "my eyes are in their hands"

This review is for Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum, Lake Boga VIC

verified email - 26 Jul 2011

Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum is the home of a relic catalina flying boat which for years was erected on a hill alongside Lake Boga. Just recently a huge hangar has been built around the plane and extensive repairs and restoration work is being done on the old weather beaten hulk. The museum itself is housed in a secret partly underground domed bunker containing many pieces of memorabilia and historic displays and pictures of the World War 2 base's previous life. It is a very interesting and informative display. I can remember visiting the site during the drought when the lake was bone dry and used by the locals for racing their cars and doing wheelies. The lake is now full again and back to it's normal splendor. Well worth the time and effort for a wander round.

This review is for Best's Winery Pty Ltd, Ararat VIC

Best's Winery is quite out of the way but head out of Swan Hill along the Murray Valley Highway towards Echuca just past Lake Boga and look for the signs. Open for cellar door sales, wine tasting and tours of the winery (by appointment). We have been back a number of times just to get their White Reserve (Port). A terrific drop. Their other wines are just as palatable and at reasonable prices. If you like a gook wine I doubt if you will leave empty handed.
