I have been going here for years - they are not cheap but for this you get the best experience. They use the latest equipment, including the camera that allows you to view your teeth at close range on a screen while the dentist explains the issues with your teeth. The dentist I see explains everything in detail, including options for treatment. The dental hygienist I see is excellent and very thorough with teeth cleaning. The rooms are modern and attractive too.

We had lunch there last week. The whole experience was just wonderful. The staff are pleasant and very efficient. My vegan partner had a lentil and vegetable soup which was so tasty and I had the lentil and chickpea pattie. The pattie was delicious, the roll so soft and the salad inside so fresh. I followed this with a herbal tea which came in a pot. There is a gallery as well with clothes, candles etc (I bought a scarf). The tables are well apart but there are not many, and they all had "Reserved" on them. But there are also a few single chairs at a bench or you can sit outside. I look forward to returning some time.

This review is for Cerberus Beach House, Black Rock VIC

We had lunch at Cerberus Beach House last week. It is in a wonderful location, upstairs in a bright, sunny dining room, with views over Port Phillip Bay taking in HMAS Cerberus and distant suburbs. Being a warmish sunny, windless day added to the ambience. The service was attentive and we didn't feel hurried, the waitress happy to answer our questions and explain a few things on the menu. On the menu there were "small plates" options and "large plates" options. We wanted the fish and chips in the small plate option, but were told there were absolutely no variations on any meals.

In this day and age I found this surprising as the other meals could easily be served in smaller sizes. Diners sometimes have dietary requirements e.g. they could have at least one vegan option. The fish and chips were $28 which was a little expensive for just one fillet (although I'm no expert on prices, maybe this is normal). The rockling fish was tasty and came with nice chips and "mushy peas" which seemed an unusual accompaniment. Also a serve of coleslaw and some tartare sauce and lemon slice. We were absolutely full at the end and unfortunately couldn't fit in any of the nice sounding desserts.

Approximate cost: $28

I was looking for prescription sunglasses - the sales assistant was very helpful and attentive. I chose some sunglasses on her advice, but they ended up not being a good fit and my vision was distorted with the polarisation. I returned them and they were quite happy to replace them which was a great relief. I found OPSM to be excellent to deal with and they have a great range of designer frames and the shop is very modern and spacious.

This review is for Ricketts Point Teahouse, Beaumaris VIC

I have been to this Teahouse on many occasions but today we decided to have lunch there. We sat out on the deck - with the sun shining, no wind and a sparkling sea it was just beautiful. They have a system where you don't have to wait for service, just claim your table (inside or outside) and order and pay at the counter. The food was served promptly. We enjoyed fish and chips which was very good and came with a lovely, fresh salad. This was followed by pots of tea - bonus points for providing leaf tea. Filtered water and glasses were provided so you can serve yourself. We would love to have tried the cakes, but that was not possible after our large lunches! We plan to return tomorrow for afternoon tea to try the cakes. The staff were very efficient and served us with a smile. A very enjoyable lunch!

Approximate cost: $18

This review is for Vincents Cafe Restaurant, Beaumaris VIC

Recently we ordered takeaway "Vegie" pizzas. Two of the vegetables listed on the menu were missing from the pizzas. The remaining vegetables were very sparse and did not make up for the missing ones. We had two very thin crusted pizzas with barely any topping. In my opinion, the restaurant should have:
a) advised of the missing toppings so at least we would have known and had the option of ordering something else.
b) put more of the other vegetables and tomato paste on
c) offered a discounted price (they cost about $13 for regular and $16 for large). Instead we were none the wiser, and only discovered this when we got them home. Usually we really enjoy our pizzas from Vincents, but this was disappointing.

This review is for Siam Spicy, Beaumaris VIC

We had a birthday dinner recently at Siam Spicy. We had seen it from the outside before, but never ventured in. We were surprised by how beautiful the decor and atmosphere was. The waitresses were dressed in Thai fashion and looked lovely and well presented. Being a Wednesday, it was relatively quiet with a few tables which were spaced well apart - a pleasant change from the usual way they fit in as many tables as possible. Most importantly for us, it was not too noisy and we could carry on a normal conversation. The food was presented very nicely, was delicious and the service good. The mixed entrees were great. You can order the curries with whatever meat/fish or vegetarian option you wish and you can specify whether you want it mild, medium or hot.

I ordered the Jungle Curry with vegetable and tofu. It was more like a soup which was unexpected and perhaps could have had more of the tofu and vegetables and less liquid, although, as I know little about Thai food, perhaps that's how it's meant to be. We shared the coconut icecream for dessert. It was nice but had a few crunchy bits of ice in it. I finished off with lovely jasmine tea. The restaurant must be praised for it's wide variety of vegetarian/vegan and gluten free dishes. It was not that cheap, but the prices matched the quality of the restaurant. It is well worth it for a special date, occasion or just a casual dinner. I had not been that keen on going out for Thai previously, but now I look forward to going back with my partner.
