The people, especially the founder of this traveling theater company, Rick Davis, is doing something wonderful not only for the area around the Gordon River in Strahan, Tas, but for the good of all. We had great tour guides of Simon and Bodane for our tour of Sarah Island off of the World Heritage Cruise Line on the Gordon River. This tour of Sarah Island was anything but a dry "look here" kind of tour. They made the Island come to life and you could almost feel the prisoners walking around and what they went through. It was the best guided tour I have ever been on, fun, informative and I really did learn something! Later in the evening, we went to a live performance of "The Ship That Never Was" written by Rick Davis and is an audience participatory production. It was wonderful and tells a story based on the history recorded... Sorry can't tell any more - it will give it away. This really is an excellent group and not only do they deserve your support, you will come away feeling entertained and just a bit wiser. The cost here is somewhat deceptive because the tour of Sarah Island was included in our World Heritage Tour. The cost reflected is for the play only. Note: Rick Davis supports at least one Aboriginal child and does accept gold coin donations.

Absolutely fantastic on all counts! Husband, 2 daughters, grand daughter and I took this cruise on a once off trip to Tassie. Daughter and grand daughter were visiting from the USA for a month and we wanted to show them the best of what we could find. There are 2 cruise companies that do Gordon River Cruises and we didn't have a good feeling about the other line, so we talked to these folks and they treated us like family. We felt warm and welcome, the boat was comfortable, the food delicious and the service superb! This is a family owned business and we really enjoyed getting to know about the area and the trip from the locals. We even got to visit the Bridge. While on the cruise, we did 2 stops. One stop was at Sarah Island where we were given a tour by The Round Earth Company (another review coming on that one) http://www.roundearth.com.au which was included in the price of the cruise and was fun and informative. Our second stop was at Heritage Island where we were given a tour by Kate, one of the family members who run the cruise line. Kate was very informative and gave us time to explore and enjoy the flora and the fauna including the Huon Pine and a Tiger Snake. Kate was also on the boat as one of the people who "served" us and she was honest, fun and as down to earth as anyone I have ever met! I don't know when we will ever get to go back to Tassie, but if we do, I will certainly do this cruise again! Yall were really awesome - Thanks!!!!!!!

This is a real gem, and with a bit of publicity you wouldn't be able to get in the door once the word gets out! A special is offered for dinner Wed-Sunday with Parma, Steaks, Seafood, Pasta and on Sunday kids under 12 eat free. The specials are each priced differently, with the seafood platter for 1 (Fri special) being the most expensive at $20. We were delighted at the seafood we received, grilled fish, 4 oysters, calamari rings, 2 giant prawns, salad and the best chips I've ever had! We were on a Harley so we didn't check out the wine (don't drink on the bike) and we went for the seafood platter so we didn't check out the rest of the menu, but the value for the seafood platter can't be beat! If the rest of the dishes are half as good as the seafood, you won't be disappointed! The food is on par with a fine dining experience and shouldn't be thought of as "just a cafe". They do functions and catering as well and if I ever have the need for either, they will be my first stop. The "ambiance" is very much like a cafe, clean and comfortable, but not much on the romantic side but the food makes up for it! The coffee was really nice too. I'd like to have Equal or Splenda offered instead of "the pink stuff" for sweeteners. As for my rating on service, in Oz, I'd say most would give the service 5 stars as well, but my 4 stars is probably a cultural thing. As an American, I prefer to have someone come to the table and take my order than go to a register and be handed a table number. The only time "service" came into the picture was watching someone wipe down tables and our food was brought to us. On that basis, according to Oz standards, the service was a 5, friendly, smiling. Give these folks a visit you won't be disappointed! They are right off the Frankston Metro line at the Mentone station!

Went for afternoon tea and had a great time. I don't like the BIG table feel and prefer intimate meals with my family or people I came with - we made reservations and had a private table or the experience would have left me feeling unsettled. Had a table by the window and watched the Sulphur Crested Cockatoos eating from the bird feeder. The "show" put on was fun but not long enough. This is the place to take tourists for sure, but even if you are a local it is worth the drive just to have "done it" and the drive to get there is very peaceful. My daughter even got to be part of the "show" and she loved that. The phone message about pricing is a bit confusing/misleading as we expected $15 per person and it was $25 per person...

Upstairs, "Level 1" has breathtaking views and the food is really good - I am very fond of the Bruschetta and the Shrimp Tempura. The service is really awful and we have waited over an hour for food. There is also live entertainment with dancing and we have really enjoyed that, Peter Miller and Paul Popp are great fun. This is a good place to go to kick back and just enjoy life with no pretense. The pavlova from Jack's, the downstairs restaurant is wonderful (but I really love pav!).

Service was excellent, almost too much. There are very few choices on the menu and the food, while presented with flair and eye appeal left my taste buds searching for relief. The food overall is heavily spiced both on the hot side and overdoing the garlic. The atmosphere was great because we had a great table looking out at the bay and the sunset. I had really been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for months and feel disappointed that it didn't meet my expectations.

Authentic - thought I had walked into my favorite ristorante in Italia! Wonderful atmosphere but the food and presentation would be better in a more romantic setting rather than a family pizza place, because it just didn't seem like an average pizza place, pleasant attentive service although a bit slow to come around, food was delicious, best coffee I have had yet in Australia (since arriving 4+ months ago). Going back as soon as they reopen after a month long holiday.
