We dined at the Teppanyaki bar as a family of four. We each tried a different (degustation) menu with our 12 yo choosing some items from the al la carte menu. The chef put on a great show and it was wonderful to have a dining expereince that entertained our Gen Z kids who normally sit there bored and unable to engage in conversation. The food was amazing and sufficient to leave us satiated. A significant wine menu complimented the food on offer. The price range is for the whole course.

Approximate cost: $65-$85

Had a lovely lunch with friends in this little charmer that is a well kept secret by the mum's of Wilston State School. Great coffee and the food was good value and well prepared.

The menu is a bit confusing and offers light snacks, traditional courses as well as "tapas" style sharing plates. This can be a little awkward when dining with several people wanting different things. We opted for the share plates and although the quality and tastes of the individual dishes were great they were all very rich and somewhat meaty leaving us yearning some salad greens or vegetables. Perhaps we should have chosen better but it would have been nice for the waiter to suggest something like that seeing he knew there was a lack of balance in the dishes. I would like to go back to try the homemade pasta which looked great on dishes of other patrons.

My first visit to Jett on the recommendation of another coffee snob was a little disappointing in that the owner was not happy with the coffee beans he had just received and was not all that happy about passing them on. It was really refreshing to find such honesty and obvious high standards. Will have to go back when he sources better beans.

I switched to buying Elixir coffee beans after being a Merlo coffee patron for many years. I love the vibe of Elixir as you walk through the door and are greeted by the energetic staff in unison. I have tried most of their beans on offer with my favourites being Velluto and Fratelli. They also occasionally get in a wickedly devine Panama single origin bean that is to die for. You also get a free coffee every time you buy beans. The only issue with this place is finding a park in the crowded industrial area with such a popular coffee roasting spot.

Ryan Squires is Brisbane's answer to Heston Blumenthal. Having dined at The Fat Duck last December I can honestly say that the degustation menu at Esquire is the closest you will get to that sort of mind blowing, tastebud challenging, truly exotic foodie experience to be had in Australia.

Approximate cost: $85 for 7 courses

My husband Mark has been in meatlover heaven since Billy came to town. You can not go past his quality, knowledge and service. He will even source special requests for you and supplies rarer cuts and game.

Always met with a smile, very good range of standard butcher's fare, some best in class top-range goods (Wagyu ramp for example), well considered deli selection as well which makes it easy for me to shop for a gourmet meal. The staff enjoy a discussion about how to cook the cuts too - and it goes both ways (so they learn from their customers).
