Insulation Extract is *capable* of doing passable quality work. However, they could not be trusted to do it. I had them do both the extraction of my old blow-in insulation and the installation of the new earthwool, and on both jobs they tried to get away with the poorest quality work.

After they did the extraction I got up into the roof and noticed a bunch of places they had missed, and so started to finish it off with my own shop vac. After I had 10+ vacuum bags full of insulation I gave up and got them back out to have another go. They came back and ended up taking another half a bulka bag of insulation out. They were very apologetic.

On the insulation installation, due to my prior experience I spoke to them a few days before the day and asked what sort of quality control checks they would/could do on the job. I was informed that they "just did the job properly", so I let them know in advance that I would be checking their work myself. I'm glad I did so while they were on site. I found nearly all batts were not all the way to exterior walls when I lifted some tiles, and was informed that they normally do that from on top of the roof. They promptly filled the gaps under the tiles I lifted, ignoring those I had not. So I had to keep lifting tiles and pointing out gaps until they actually got fixed.

Then there were the spots under the solar panels that could not be accessed from outside; I had to be in the roof space pointing them out. The amount of gap was up to half a batt.

Then there was the skylight ducts; a 20-30cm gap around all of them, and I was told they don't normally do around them due to some sort of dust issue? I call BS.

Then there was the downlights; I have 10 downlights in my house and each one was uncovered by approx. half a batt. Even if the downlights weren't rated for contact with insulation (but mine are), the insulation should go to within 50-100mm of the light.

Then there were just general gaps (of up to 30cm) throughout the ceiling space where batts were not sitting snug against the ceiling joists. The Knauf Earthwool installation manual says they should to be snug!

So from the time I started doing checks on work that they thought was finished, they added at least another 15 batts into my ceiling space. That's something like 10% of the area of my ceiling! I shudder to think how many people who don't know any better have had insulation installed as poorly as Insulation Extract tried to get away with.

I highly encourage anyone engaging Insulation Extract to inspect their installation work and ensure you are getting what you pay for.
