Stayed for four nights in the caravan park which had reasonable rates for tent sites, with a discount for 3 or more nights. Very friendly staff throughout, easy check in with excellent orientation to the park. Tent site was in good condition and within a short walking distance to the amenities block. Although the amenities were equipped with coded locks no one seemed to bother to actually keep the doors locked, which was of concern to me. Lovely big indoor camp kitchen which was well equipped, large indoor dining area and outdoor bbq. A coffee machine which dispensed ground coffee was also available, coffee was priced very reasonably at @$2 per cup.
Showers and toilets were always clean, showers hot and with a good flow.
At the time of my stay the caravan park had been subjected to several overnight break ins into cars with property stolen and the security really could do with some upgrade!
There is a well stocked IGA close by which offers some excellent produce and good range of groceries. I did not use the laundry at the caravan park but heard from other campers that it was not very efficient and they preferred to use the nearby laundromat.

This review is for Gateway Caravan Park, Norseman WA

once I got over the shock of paying $33 for an unpowered tent site and got into the park it became apparent that this is one of the top end caravan parks I had encountered on my trip from Adelaide to Perth. The tent site was clean and had mats, close to the amenities and camp kitchen, which was a delightful surprise as it had an adjacent small lounge where one could sit and keep warm/dry and comfortable.
The amenities were clean and in good condition, as was the laundry, the whole park was clean and very well maintained.
Staff were friendly and welcoming.

This review is for Balladonia Hotel Motel, Balladonia WA

Booked into the Balladonia 'Backpackers' - a single room (Donga) which was carpeted and had airondition, but no heating. The rate was acceptable, manager went out of his way to provide me with a fan heater. The camp kitchen was a skeleton of seats and tables, not even a sink, cooking facility or anything else. No laundry, the flow in the showers was so poorly that a sponge bath would have been more efficient.
There were signs declaring that Balladonia had been draught affected and was carting water from Norseman... those signs have been present every time I came through and the tap water is perfectly drinkable - it is just an attempt on grabbing money from travellers by coercing them into purchasing water. The dam was 3/4 full and the rain water tanks overflowing! Food in the roadhouse was poor, I asked for a plate of vegetables only and was offered some very poor quality, semi dried out vegies.
The museum was a nice distraction and worth a look, coffee was good and pricing in line with the rest of the Nullarbor roadhouses.
It was nice to find some basic groceries at least, also a large range of souvenirs was availabe.

Approximate cost: $50

This review is for Australia Post, Stawell VIC

Australia Post Shop in Stawell offers all the usual services I would expect from a post office - mail, parcel, passport, banking, bill payment. The staff is super friendly and helpful, very patient with 'difficult customers' and even at the busiest time greet me with a smile.
They go out of their way to accommodate special requests and help to find the best deal possible for postage and packaging.
My one gripe is the ever increasing range of 'stuff' for sale, worst of all the sweets now strategically placed at the counters. I do realise times are tough - even for Australia Post, but to use these sort of strategies to make the extra dollar is going to the lowest.
One of the counter's space is also half taken up by a laptop computer which is on display, not a good place to keep it when people need space to do their transactions.
I cannot praise the staff enough though, they provide an excellent service.

The disability employment service has been very helpful in assisting me to gain some supported employment in the community. The support from the officer was very good, providing me with practical advice and moral support.
They were always happy to accommodate my needs, change appointments if necessary and even accepted 'drop in' visits.
Office staff was friendly and helpful also.

This review is for Bills Health Food, Stawell VIC

verified email - 31 Mar 2013

Bills Health Food provides customers with a large variety of health food staples at reasonable prices. Customer Service is very good, Bill is always going out of his way to order in whatever his customers ask for. A 10% loyal customer discount applies to regular customers, which is an added bonus. The shop interior is dated but that does not take away from the great service.
Bill has recently switched to a focus on Australian products which is another plus if you want to support the Australian economy.

very disappointing experience. Few stalls that offer fresh produce, more frustratingly is that we have a local organic grower on our doorstep who travels to Melbourne to sell their produce instead. Overall it is a sad affair and desperately in need of a lift.

This review is for ALDI, Ararat VIC

Aldi is yet to disappoint, everything is fresh and of good quality, most impressive are the bulk almonds which taste better than anywhere else (including expensive organic or pesticide free grown ones), good value for money, simple layout, easy to navigate, weekly changing specials of a variety of things s.a gardening, school, camping etc articles.
My weekly shop is consistently 1/3 less than elswhere.

This review is for Mokepilly Cafe, Stawell VIC

verified email - 26 Mar 2013

This cafe has discovered the niche and offers some excellent gluten free options, the service is friendly and quick, the presentation of the meals and cakes are appealing and very professional. I would have preferred the coffee to be stronger, but this is consistent with all other coffees I have tried in Stawell.

Visited a couple of times for coffee only, which was very slow to come and didn't taste that good either and the music was far too loud for making conversation. Overall the atmosphere was not one I would call relaxing, although it does seem to be a popular spot with many others.
