I wouldn't recommend this business. I have had a house purchase that has taken five years from contract signing and still the process is incomplete. The house has been sitting on my country block incomplete for two years, while Rivergum has, slowly made attempts to fix glaring shortcomings, and consistently avoided their responsibilities. The company failed to present the home to acceptable building standards and denied commitments given by previous managers. Despite promises that the home would be presented to show home quality build standards, the house was offered without waste water plumbing to the exterior wall of the property and without a visible water connection point to the exterior. After three years of wrangling and argument these were provided as originally promised. Disturbingly when the water supply was connected, a serious leak was revealed and water cascaded along a 1.5 metre waterfall from the ceiling cavity down the exterior wall of the house. Attempting to check the source of the leak, I climbed a ladder only to find gutters tingling, due to water leakage infiltrating electricity wiring somewhere in the roof cavity. Despite repeated requests a plumbing compliance certificate has not been provided which is the right of any home owner and in contravention of SAFE WORK legislated requirements.
Roofing sheets overhang each other in a zigzag formation into gutters and in several spots are so misaligned that it is virtually impossible to clean gutters for fire prevention purposes.
Rivergum Homes informed me that they had rectified this and when I attended I found roofing sheets that had been carelessly cut with tin snips and still hanging too far into the guttering. Sharp pieces of spear like barbs protruded out from the sheets of roofing iron making the task of gutter cleaning incredibly dangerous.
Wet area flooring areas do not run down wards to the floor drain traps in any room and in the laundry after a leak from a plumbing fixture it was found that the flooding water ran towards the exterior door/wall.
Site works levelled the site by digging down too low and removing excessive amounts of top soil making it impossible to run storm water away without installing a sump pump system.
There have been so many on going problems around this purchase and a belligerent company that is more concerned about high volume sales rather fixing its appalling business culture and being committed to customers. Two years of lost rental income and two years of extra rates and taxes that cannot be recouped has been the reality and it appears that I will have to accept the shoddy work practices if I ever wish to receive the keys to my house which is 95% paid for.
Absolutely appalling building experience.
I have a portfolio of photographs to share with any media organisation or person who may be interested in verifying my claims.
