I've been to a few different yoga studios and classes, and Yoga Academy are by far the best! When you step in to AYA you really do enter a very special and sacred space. The 90 minute classes are challenging, invigorating, and relaxing at the same time. The room is heated to 28 degrees to allow a very light sweat. Great in winter!! I love the Vinyasa style of yoga -dynamic sequences of the Sun Salutation. Following the Vinyasa yoga you practise some static asanas as well, and there is a relaxation at the end. The teachers are just wonderful - all very experienced, clear instructions, encouraging, and give individual feedback as much as possible. No bookings are necessary for classes. Highly recommended for anyone already practising yoga or looking to start.

Haven't tried yoga before in a formal class, but surprised myself at Bikram! The heated room, while it can be overwhelming, really allows you to push yourself, and achieves a great cleanse. A friend of mine has been to another Bikram studio and says that South Melbourne is cleaner. If you're a beginner they do look after you in your first class. They have an introductory offer for $19 for 10 consecutive days - just enough to get you hooked! The morning classes are less overwhelming - by the evening, the temperature is well above 40 degrees.
