Nothing ever goes a 100% according to plan when it comes to a wedding, but if there is one regret that we have from our wedding, it was hiring a dj, or maybe hiring a dj through Mobydisc. Not only was neither myself or John happy, there was a lot of complaints from just about everyone at the wedding - either about the music being played, the volume of the music, or the fact that the dj was yelling through the mic.

Firstly, I sent the dj a timeline with further information - when and by who grace will be said, when and by who speeches will be done, when the first dance will be, when the cake cut will be and we asked him to mc. He did not once make an announcement without me having to get up out of my chair, and going over to ask him - "Can you please announce grace will be said by Johan", "Can you please announce that speeches will be happening", "Can you please announce the first dance", which was really frustrating as the last thing I wanted to do was check my watch constantly. There were one or two last minute changes as far as speeches go so I pulled him aside before we walked into reception, I told him the new order and the extra people that will be making a speech and I asked him if he needs to write it down but he assured me he's very good with names and he'll remember. Needless to say - he stuffed up when he announced people to come up to make a speech.

Secondly, the dj did not play songs or music that we discussed. I gave Gerard certain songs that needed to be played at certain times - first dance and dance with father was fine, but he didn't play the song I chose for the bridal party walk-in. He only started playing it after John and I had already entered the building and I very specifically asked him to play it for the entry of the entire bridal party. I also asked him to play something relaxing, maybe even acoustic early in the evening whilst people are having entrees and mains and I actually had to get up out of my chair whilst entree was being served to ask him to change the music because it was some loud and annoying dance beat that no one could talk over. I also emailed him a list of longs telling him it'll be great to hear that throughout the night and also to give him an idea of what we like and prefer for the evening and he played maybe 10 songs from the list of 40 I gave him, and this was after I myself asked him several times if he could please play some of the music that I selected. A lot of people complained about the music he was playing. He was quick to say he was playing music that guests requested but one guest requested songs twice, and even that was better than what he was playing at the time.

Thirdly, he did not control the volume well at all. I asked him several times to turn down the music, as did my dad and he refused. We actually had people grab bottles of wine and walk outside because the music was so loud and obnoxious inside.

And last but not least, we were meant to pay him $310 cash for the outstanding balance. As you can imagine things can be a bit crazy on the day of your wedding and I never got around to getting change for a $20, so I hoped for the best that he would have some change. John went up to him to pay and said he has $320, does Gerard have any change and Gerard replied with, no but that's ok and grabbed the $320. So I'm curious - did he give the office the $320 that he took from us or did he only give the office the $310 and keep $10 for himself??
