We stopped here for lunch on our way home to SA from Qld. It was after 2pm on Saturday afternoon when we arrived in Hay and looked for somewhere to buy lunch.
We spotted this bakery still open in the main street, so parked and went in. The store is neat and clean and the breads and cakes on display looked very appetizing. We ordered hot food, including chicken rolls and spag. bolog.
The young lady began preparing our order, and we then realized that they close at 2pm and it was already nearly 2.15pm, and other staff were cleaning and packing up.
We apologized and said that we did not realise that they were closing and if it was a hastle, we could just buy a couple of pre-prepared items. But the lady was very polite, and we were told that it was no problem.
So, even though it must have been rather inconvenient for them to have to serve us while they were attempting to pack up and go home, and having to reclean utensils etc. used we were served with courtesy and made to feel that our custom was appreciated.
The food was nice, and the prices reasonable.
We were impressed by this good example of old-fashioned country values and service to the customer.
