One of my brighton favourites for a lazy Sunday brunch. Enter via Martin Street, then stroll past the scrumptious cake display, pick up a paper and order from the modest yet hearty menu. Choose from eggs, gluten-free zucchini fritters, pancakes....all good. While you're hanging about this cafe, drinking coffee and feeling happy, do glance out the back and view the fun-times courtyard. Maybe leave your kids there to run wild (there is a chalk board!). Fab service, good coffee, happy brunching!

Great vibe and decor. Lovely garden out the back and nice mix of indoor/outdoor seating. They serve excellent quality food (brekfast and lunch), decent coffee and there's a nice range of stuff to take home including Zealy Bay bread and home-made take home meals. The meals aren't the biggest but just enough to satisfy. Lots of newspapers around, as well as cook books and magazines. Open kitchen. Finishing touches - ordering coffee through the window and a blanket per seat during winter. I come here all the time!

Great coffee and attentive staff! Thanks Bree and staff for a great cycling coffee stop. My afternoon ride is complete! Pity about your lovely food negating my exercise but hell I only live once

Delicate, divine and exceedingly delicious. This cafe provides my daily coffee, organic bread to take home and fantastic food created by wonderful people who love the food they prepare. Produce of the highest quality, great foods to take with you and a french provincial atmosphere with environmental chic.

Food quality and variety are fantastic. Obviously superior quality ingredients are used to produce the beautiful meals available eat in or take away. Prices are reasonable given the quality produce. Take home bread is beautiful and fresh. Cakes (had the spiced apple cake) stunning. Can't wait to go back and get another piece. Went for lunch with my Mum and sister. Service could have been a bit better, but the staff were friendly and happy to help. They really knew about the menu and what was in each dish. My sister and I both had the gnocci and Mum had egg anc bacon pies with gorgeous salad. All mouthwatering. Shared the yummy lemon tart for dessert. All served quickly. Garden tables available in back courtyard in the sun.

Friends found this business on WOMOW and we met up here the other day for lunch. It's a great find - a good alternative to Church St. There's a good selection of foods on the menu (with breakfast all day) and everyone's food was pretty good. But the nicest thing was the atmostphere. Its a narrow shop but out the back is a lovely area - kind of outdoors but protected from the wind and rain. The service was good too. We brought our baby and they were very accommodating. Coffee was pretty good too.

My friend and I walked the length of Martin St looking in each window of the many cafes. We decided upon MSC&P and were NOT disappointed. It was homey, well-serviced and definitely a delicious experience, one we will definitely revisit again and again. The staff were charming, as was the owner. I am a Tertiary Lecturer in Customer Service and have been for many years, so this "newby" of a cafe deserves to be around for a long time to come. Keep up the good work!

I have been to the providore a number of times hoping that each time I'm there the service might get a little better. I have been disappointed in their lack of friendliness and acknowledgment of customers. I found it especially hard ordering takeaway with staff pushing past with coffee and not even saying excuse me. Lack of manners in hospitality cannot be forgiven if you want customers to return. I'm hoping they will realise and change there attitude soon.

I will never go there ever again. I had the possilby WORST experience as a customer that I've EVER had.

Martin Street is my local strip, it's a great little spot with new cafe's sprouting up everywhere. Until Monday, I had never been inside this particular cafe before, I was walking a friends dog and not quite awake so coffee sounded fantastic. I tied him up and went inside and thought wow this looks great I'll have to bring the girls down for breaky!!! Looks great, narrow but warm and you can see through to the courtyard. Very inviting. the gentleman standing infront of me asked to pay for coffees he'd had outside and the lady at the counter didn't crack a smile and was not friendly at all. It was my turn at the counter and I stood waiting for some eye contact so I could order. The lady fumbled around infront of me walked back and forth to the coffee machine and counter a few times. The guy working the machine didn't acknowledge my existance, I finally had a moment of eye contact with the lady for a moment she didn't alter the sour expression on her face then she went back to fumbling with her order pad. In the meantime another younger waitress came to the front and walked away again without acknowledging there was a CUSTOMER at the counter. The lady with the pad gave up and looked down and asked what I wanted. I asked for a take away mocha. She made no comment, I asked about sizes and you'd think it was the worst thing in the world she kind of huffed and at that point I'd decided it just wasn't worth it so simply told her not to worry about it and I left the shop.

At that point I was still a potential customer and would have gone back for another try at some other stage as I'd really like the look and layout of the cafe.

I untied the puppy and took a few steps away only to here someone calling out. I turned around to find the guy from the coffee machine had come outside and was calling to me down the street from about 10metres away. He was saying my coffee was ready and all I'd needed to do was wait 30 sec making it out that I was impatient and left because of that. My words were that I wanted CUSTOMER SERVICE, a smile and eye contact, the smallest hint of acknowledgement is all I required. I turned and continued walking. Mind you he was also doing this infront of his customers in the street and those of the surrounding cafe's! Amazing really.

I've never been chased down the street, yelled at, accused of impatience and treated with such disdain. All I wanted was a coffee! Terrible customer service that has lost a customer for good.

I worked for many years in hospitality and still work in customer service now. It was absolutely disgraceful. No matter how busy you are the second it takes to say things like I'll just be a moment or ANYTHING at all is well and truly worth it.

I have never experienced any thing like what has been suggested here. My friends and I have only experienced friendly and helpful staff, smiling and happy to serve everyone. It is sad that you didn't give it another try, everyone has bad days. Maybe keep this in mind for next time. p.s. If you have worked in hospitality then you might realise they are people, just like you and me.

Martin St never used to have any cafes, but now there's a few. This one's only been open about a month, but it's definitely the best one I've been too. Coffee is excellent and there's a cool hole in the wall at the front for take away. We had breakfast here, and the food is great - really good quality ingredients, some are home made, and well cooked. Good value too, we were surprised about the prices. Courtyard out the back is nice and sunny and relaxing.
