Well to have a positive experience(not in flu season) you MUST MUST MUST book an appointment. If you have an appointment, you'll have a good experience, for a doctor anyway. Receptionists are friendly and as are doctors, though some may want you in and out quickly, to make more money.

Attempting to keep this as far as possible away from being a personal comment, it is necessary to a point as it reflects on the practice as a whole. I was new to the practice and I wonder if I had the same GP as another person has described, whom I had to persuade for several weeks to take my problems seriously. Eventually, tests showed an extremely serious illness requiring surgery. Was actually told elsewhere that it should have been tested earlier, given the descriptions I gave to the GP. It was life threatening.
A friend has also had a similar, though not life-threatening, problem with this GP.
I have visited a male GP at this surgery who is, while very efficient, still obviously always in a hurry. Having only seen two GPs I cannot comment on the whole practice.
Receptionists are efficient, if some of them perhaps a little too abrupt for people who are obviously there because they need help.
When I can find an alternative suitable medical centre, I will change, but it is hard to combine location, bulk billing etc as well as the right GP. However, I would recommend anyone asks other patients before picking a GP in this medical centre.

My family and I have attended here for many years and are familiar with several of the many doctors. The receptionist always friendly and professional and even though they now run on appointments, always manage to get my children in on short notice.

I have been going to this medical centre for the past 15 years, and my only complaint is that my doctor is so popular it's very hard to get an appointment with her! On the occasions when I haven't been able to see her, the other doctors have been fantastic with me during the consultation and any follow ups that have been necessary. Can definitely recommend as a smooth, well run, medical centre.

This is not the usual medical practice I go to, but it was the weekend and I needed to see a GP. I noticed that the review guidelines say "Don't make negative personal comments - direct your review at the business, not a particular employee". This is difficult to do, as I went to see a GP and she is the reason why I'm giving this medical practice such a low rating.

First of all, the reception staff are professional and excellent. I found the waiting room to be satisfactory.

The GP I went to see said to me, "Tell me what's wrong." I began by saying, "Let me explain my situation to you" and she replied by saying, "No, don't. Just tell me what's wrong. Tell me why you're here." I was surprised to say the least. And she was opening and reading her (snail) mail during our consult, while I was explaining my illness.

She didn't seem to care that I was unwell, didn't even try to diagnose me, didn't prescribe any course of treatment at all (didn't even tell me to rest, keep my fluids up etc). In the five minutes (maybe even less) we were together, the general gist of her attitude was, "I don't really care about you, there's nothing I can do for you, here take a medical certificate and be on your merry way." Now I did need a medical certificate, but I certainly would have liked a diagnosis and some medical advice.

Because of this experience, I will not be returning to this medical centre, nor can I recommend this particular GP to others. Perhaps the other GPs in this practice are more professional and caring.

I got a similar bad experience as yours.

First of all, I often go to maroubra medical centre and I think all of the staffs and GPs there are fantastic. However, this particular experience I had one day shocked me and I won't ever want to go to Maroubra Medical Centre on weekends.

I was accompanying my sister to this GP on the weekend and was helping her to explain her symptoms. However, the GP said "You need to pay if you want to say something because I am only counselling one person ie your sister, not you". My sister and I was very shocked. Then, I explained to her that my sister asked me to support her consultation because her English was not very good. Then she said "You are very rude to talk on behalf of your sister". Then, I stayed silent and because I was very upset, I cried. At the end of the consultation, she asked me to apologise to her but I didn't because I felt I was not being rude.

Please don't get me wrong, I was not trying to "attack" this person. However, I think as a whole, this person plays an important role on how the Maroubra Medical Centre quality, service and value are seen by other people, such as, in Eadiel's case.

This is by far my favourite medical centre. The doctors are really thorough, listen well and make you feel comfortable. The front desk staff are friendly and efficient, even though they are clearly very busy. The waiting room has plenty of magazine and a corner full of toys for kids to play with. They bulk bill for everyone, not just health care card holders. They run mainly by appointment which is great as it minimises wait time even though the centre is extremely busy. My only problem with them is that they are so busy that it can be difficult to get an appointment - you may have to wait a day or two. That's no good most of the time especially if you need a medical certificate for work.
