We built a pool with Lazaway Pools and they were great to deal with from start to finish. They worked well with our landscaper and builder and everything came together nicely. The staff both in the office and on site were a pleasure to deal with. I would, and have highly recommended Lazaway to all my friends and family.

Again, can this person provide womow with proof - eg invoice or contract without delay - so they cannot provide false documents - as this is Lazaway making up comments. I dont think just asking them is enough if they are customers, i think the are getting staff to so this from their home pcs

thanks you

we have had to remove our factual comments due to the threat of legal action - pls take note that they are not the company you want to work with. Broken promises and commitments the worst customer service you will ever experience, don't answer emails, obstructive and quite frankly no one is accountable. We can't all be wrong think about it?

I would not recommend using Lazaway based my personal experience. It all went downhill the day I agreed to sign a SPASA contract with Lazaway pools. I was expecting to have a experience the same as the many letters shown by our salesman. He promised it would be complete by September - he said we would have no issues with our fencing, no issues with access, no issues with building. We were looking forward to swimming in our show special!!
Wrong.
This pool project was small in comparison the total work performed on our property - yet it was the most stressfull and painful experience to date.
Reason.
The wrong expectation was set by their sales team. Timeframes blew out by months, variations were expensive. Head office refused to answer my calls - my emails - my SMS's. Every stage of work was rescheduled time and time again, all with no explanation. This caused huge delays to my other contractors. Rubbish and damage to our property was ignored - half a ton of rebar was left on our nature strip for 5 months, 4 trailor loads of rubbish had to be removed by us - be aware the cleanup doesn't occur till the project is complete, till then it's a construction site. Concrete was poured all through my garden and lawn. Take away containers were left attracting vermin. I did find it hard to live with. (dig to completion that is)
Why
No one was accountable. No one took ownership of problems should they occur. The fact is I would have been happy to have my pool completed in January, I've never had a pool for 30 years so a couple of months is no big deal. But the only call I recieved was from accounts payable requesting money. This was the only form of comunication I had Lazaway. I was fed up by the bullying for money and the threat of not having my pool complete by Christmas. When I called head office they didn't care. When I emailed management - they didn't care. A 27 page complaint to SPASA and all I got was a phone-call and no apology from anyone.
Anyhow..
My advice - use a company that will have 1 person accountable from Sale - Completion. A budget price doesn't mean you save money. Beware of the hidden costs - the stress incurred is not worth the money saved.
I'm just stating my experience. I must also mention my complaint did cause a delay. From the time it was lodged till the time they called was 7 weeks. I did try to mediate numerous times but Lazaway ignored me leaving no option. But regardless of the complaint my choice for frameless fencing and Lazaway's policy on "no temporary fencing even if AS1926.1 compliant" would never have allowed me to finish the project any earlier.

Approximate cost: $49000

Your comments sadly reflect our experience and I agree entirley with the lack of accountability issue you raise. When you look at the amount of time onsite from commencement to construction it equates to 12 days but it takes Lazaway 7 months to complete. The extremely poor customer service (unless they want payment) is also very disappointing.

My wife and i had our pool completed by lazaway last year. although at times we had a rollercoaster ride with the weather, it was all worth it in the end to see the finishing product. See in our case, we understood when our stages got pushed back, or whether trades didnt make our site as expected as I am a trade myself and I know when you get held up on other jobs or when we have bad weather you cant simply work.
We can also say that sometimes it was difficult to get through to our customer service rep, but we could rely on our supervisor or the construction manager to help us when needed again, this is nothing out of the ordinary in the construction industry as we went through the same thing building our house. I must say, Lazaway was very understanding with our builder as they did their very best to fit in with the builder's schedule and they were also the only company we could find who would let us design our own pool to suit our yard.
Overall, our experience with the Lazaway has been very satisfying. The trades, our supervisor and the staff made our pool a dream!
I must say these extreme heat waves we recently have has made our pool worth every dollar!!

Approximate cost: $45,000

If you are reading these posts and considering building a pool, please do your research and choose a company that will provide you will good customer service, respect your business and finish your pool when they say they will in the contract.

This are things we did not experience with Lazaway Pools.

Once we signed the contract it was an uphill battle. I honestly do not know if the contract they sign you up with means anything to them.
We went way over time, months longer than they were contracted to finish the pool by and it was a fight to get things done. We were charged extra for fees, soil removal, soil disposal, cave ins and materials - all without any approval. And our pool was built to a higher level than it was meant to be, therefore costing us extra with our landscaper as a large area had to be raised to meet the pool.
This experience of building a pool with Lazaway Pools was beyond stressful. We experienced bad customer service and were not treated like someone who is spending thousands and thousands of dollars with them.

After what we went through I would not recommend Lazaway Pools. I could go on about how negative this build was, but I hope there is enough in the posts here on womow to help people make an informed decision about choosing someone to build there pool.

Approximate cost: $35k

Please please, future pool builders, take on board what people have said...if your pool is finished as per contract, you will be one very very lucky person. If you want to be ignored and then bullied (when they decide to contact you), go to them and Good Luck!

same sad experience for us too - I wish i had of seen these reviews before we signed up.

I have been reading the postings here for the last few months. They have been all bad, then just before Christmas 3 good reviews which were subsequently removed now a couple are back. Today someone has highlighted all the bad reviews as being suspect even though some of them have been posted for 12 months or more. Our experience in a nutshell - the inital stages were all positive, great service from the Lazaway team and we signed the contract. Work started but then all of a sudden when it came to finishing the pool work stopped for over two months. Nothing, no word from Lazaway, nothing. Numerous phone calls to Lazaway went unreturned, tried to ring our pool supervisor but had to switch off my caller ID on my mobile so he would answer. All I got was it would be finished soon, maybe two weeks and then this just kept getting put back. Eventually pool completed and happy with the end result but feel very let down and frustrated. I like many people have spent a lot of money and expected more from Lazaway. We could not find a cheaper price that Lazaway's quote but I will let you decide whether the stress is worth it. My advice to others if you decide to use Lazaway is have them complete the contract, do not sign it but take it to a Solicitor and have the solicitor write in a penalty clause for a late finshed pool, maybe $200 a week or similar. Then at least if it is late you will have some comeback on Lazaway. Some of the tradesmen Lazaway subcontracted to stated they would never work for them again as all they hear is complaints when they attend peoples houses. Just make sure you do your homework and know what you are up against before you sign.

Approximate cost: $40K

great idea add a penalty clause you will need it

Lazaway built a pool for us last year. The guys came out and gave us some really good advice, our block is a difficult shape so they designed a pool to maximise the space we had. They were quick, cheaper than the other quotes we received and did an excellent job. When I saw some of the other comments here I thought I should throw my hat in because they were fantastic, I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

We didn't have any problems getting them to finish. It sounds like you have had a pretty bad experience so far, if you were with holding payments from them it is no wonder they stopped working on your pool though. They required us to pay each installment to proceed with each stage, which is pretty standard practice, they also have a price guarentee for variation so not sure what happened to you but I would be interested to get more details.

BrettJR 08 Jan 2009

Hi Ben. I understood that when I withheld payment that work would stop. I was prepared for the consequence. My intention was not slow the progress but to get the right outcome. When I deposited my payment with SPASA I actually got contacted by Lazaway -this was great!!!. I actually had a means of communication. I paid every installment on time - and not one day late. I agreed to every variation to the original contract and paid it - not one day late. When I was ignored via voice, email, and SMS I got concerned. I then realized I was 9 months into a contract and saw no light. I had to escalate. When my property was damaged, I spent days cleaning my backyard getting it to a livable state, I didn't think it was fair that any one should have to go through this. I'm lucky I've never had a pool before so I don't know what I'm missing out on. He's made changes to the way his sales team quote business and his new web site looks fantastic, especially the guarantee clause. Building a pool is a once and a lifetime experience for most people – and probably the most expensive decision majority of Lazaway consumers have to make. It should be an exciting experience with a great outcome – especially before Christmas. My experience to date was far from that, when my pool is complete I’ll let you know.

If it's the same 'Craig' as I spoke to, I'm surprised you got a sympathetic response. The 'Craig' I communicated with (the managing director) was a rude, aggressive and obnoxious individual who said he'd look into my concerns 'when he got back from holidays and not before'. A real a-hole. Stay clear of these people.

They make all the promises in the world and never come through, they change the dates every week looks like its not going to be a good Christmas for swimming in our new pool, even though the MD, Salesman and the Construction Manager said it would be I do not think it will.

I will say the workmanship is good.

The only time they will call you is when you have to pay them money.

They will give you about 4 dates when they will be finished, this is over a month or two.

To strart with they will call you but then that drops of real quick as they get further and further behind.

At last they have finished a total of 14 working days took 9 months.

And now they are trying to scrare every one with legal action, what a great company.

Try another pool company, do not use this one.

They are the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life, my excavation collapsed and the drainage pipes in my house have collapsed. I was guaranteed an OCT site start and they started 7th of NOV, they now say it wont be compketed until end of FEB> I will never use this company or recommend them to anyone. I am appalled and dusgusted. Comsumer affairs said they know them well.

BrettJR 27 Nov 2008

If you think Feb - think again. We were sold to in March - the dig started in August and I don't expect to be swimming till next summer. It's In the hands of SPASA.

np 27 Nov 2008

Right, great news!!! I will be emailing SPASA today. I forgot about them! I have tried everything. Consumer affairs said they were the worst company to negotiate with. Thats is disgusting! I know how youre feeling!

I am currently building our pool with Lazaway. Big mistake. The salesman tell you they are the best, have great customer service and the extras are minimal. Their customer service is crap unless they want payment and then they are contacting you all the time. They are COWBOYS onsite who care very little about the damage to your property which according to the contract you are responsible for. Make sure you read the contact and understand it also make sure that all PC sums are recorded as cost price plus 10% otherwise they will rip you off.

I have had to deal with these lovely people's inadequate customer service from Lazaway for too long.... Very quick at getting stage payments, if only they where as efficient at managing there sub-contractors.

Have to agree with previous posters quote (who has since been removed!!)

- Slick sales people that promise everything knowing that it may not be possible

- Never respond to emails / telephone request. One day I called them and left 4 urgent messages and got no reply!!!! I also have numerous emails requesting information of which they have never actioned.

- All I can say we had a truely awful customer service experience (over 1.5 years) with Lazaway & cannot believe they think that they actually deliver the service there sales people promise.

I have never had an issue with the sub-contractors doing the physical job just
the 'lovely people' at head office .

I also find it very strange Lazaway are suddenly concerned with my bad feedback on WOMOW (10 months after posting), just as there business may be drying up due to the economic downturn...

its very disappointing that this client can"t see the common sense in construction. its certainly not the fault of the builder if it rains and a free tip site closes down. yes its unfortunate, but not the builders fault, so why would it be their expense, especially when the contract would have clearly explained what the cost structure of soil removal would have been
also, it is a little niaive to think just because the warranty has just run out on a product, they will get it replaced free of charge. their frustration should be towards the manufacturer for not extending their warranty period, not the builder.
as for getting a better price of the net for a product, good luck, the builder has a right to price these products at whatever level they choose as the client has the same right to purchase them from whoever they choose
the response does sound like some one that simply didnt get their own way and now has an axe to grind

627 14 Nov 2010

That's their favourite way of making money by underquoting on excavation costs and then slugging you more after the dig.

Renae 18 Dec 2010

yep us too, seems like a common scam with them. We found a local site to dump all the dirt for free & the lazaway superviser lied about the site not being within the correct distance (we drove it twice to measures & also a gps system measured it too) & then scammed us that it wasn't a safe site to dump even though we had got the details off someone who had the dirt dumped from their lazaway build a week earlier! Its a great way for them to make easy extra money
