I have visited all three Jasper stores (primarily Chadstone regularly). They have one the best range of toys in Melboune, toys that are intelligent, educational, beautiful and quality - for all ages (I have 6mth 10yo and 12yo children). I will continue to buy from them as they range is amazing and I would much rather buy quality wooden toys for my children than 'good' plastic toys which cost almost as much. However, their service is a bit lacking. I have found one or two staff members beautiful and helpful and I have found others to be rude. If Jasper's staff is a reflection of the owners attitudes, then they need to rethink a softer, kinder approach (and train their staff accordingly) because they have a fantastic business and I know other small toy stores that face the same challenges and are run by friendly and open people.

Very helpful, go in there regularly. Staff have excellent knowledge, and are willing to help. I have noticed sometimes too much stock on floors, in baskets, ride-on toys. Sometimes a lot of staff, can be a bit crowded.

Approximate cost: $50

I was at the Chadstone store with my daughter and niece who are both around 2 years old. Both were supervised at all times and were allowed to touch the toys but we made sure that they played gently. We are Asian. Another Caucasian child was allowed to play freely by staff. However, whenever our children touched any of the toys, it was removed from them. A dollhouse was taken from the floor where they were playing and removed to the counter. A trike was tied up, even though they were only sitting on it and not pedalling through the store. This is in contrast to our experience at the Bourke Street store which has always been professional.

Approximate cost: $40

I own a small shop that sells childrens toys. a common issue is that parents look at toy stores as a playground. They are not there for children to run around and play with, unless specified, however it sounds like there are clear indications around this particuular store. Keep in mind that everytime a child plays with something in a toy store it loses value, which is a loss for the store. Bigger stores with more money may be able to accomodate this but perhaps thinking of the small business owners.
