I had really poor service when I went last week. No offers of even coffee or water or magazines. My hair is nothing like what I asked for eventhough I showed them a picture. I wanted short to almost medium length layered hair that was was longer at the back . He cut all the length I had off and cut the back really short. It is like a bowl cut instead of a feathery layered bob. I just cant figure our how he could have cut my hair really short at the back when I said I wanted to keep the length. It just annoys you how arrogant they are it's your hair and you have to wear it everyday. You can't fix it for months and for some reason they think they know better than you.

I had posted a review last year when I first went to Heading Out, but I mistakenly attached it to the Balwyn North store instead of GPO.

This is a really lush hairdressing salon.
The attention to detail is excellent, you're basically waited on whilst you are having your hair done, "More coffee? water?" And the massage chair is just sublime.

I personally have Giovanni as a stylist and Michelle as a colourist and couldn't rave more about them both. They listen to what I want, offer their professional opinion, and I've never been disappointed. Giovanni does my blow wave which I love, I hate it when you pay a fortune for a hair cut only to have some 15 year old step in and do the blow wave!

It is expensive, almost $300 for a cut (medium length hair), colour (bleach)and foils (more bleach!) with treatment and blow wave but I promise you my hair looks immaculate (thanks to complimentary fringe trim every couple of weeks) for well over the recommended 6 weeks. In fact, it's my re-growth that makes me return every 8 weeks (I've got dark brown hair died to very light blonde). My hair never actually 'needs' a cut when I return, that's how good it is. And in spite of all the bleaching my hair is still in really good condition, and I put that down to Michelle's colouring and maintenance advice. I've never felt obliged to buy products either, they'll mention this and that, and a couple of times I've asked what they're using cos it smells to good (I'm ruled by my nose!) but I haven't found them pushy at all.

They're just really nice people for a swanky salon. They don't turn their noses up at anyone, I could go in wearing my daggy gym clothes (which I have!) and they'll still treat me really well.

I have no complaints at all with the quality of the hair colour or cut I received here, but the hairdressers were very surly, and I went to this salon at least five times over two years so it wasn't just a one off. Not only that but I have hair past my shoulders. Not super long or anything just past my shoulders and every single time I went to the salon they would constantly badger me to cut my hair, saying how unhealthy it was and how it would grow faster if I cut more off etc etc. It just really wasn't pleasant for me. The quality of the result was not worth being insulted everytime in the end. Plus the price! If you have long hair, go elsewhere.

My best friend and I always go together to Heading Out - for a glass of champagne, a head massage in the massage chair, and of course a great hair cut. There is also killer sushi downstairs! Price is a little prohibitive, but it's always fun!

Approximate cost: $70
