This review is for Just Swimming Syndal, Mount Waverley VIC

My child currently goes to this swim school. I find that there is a lack of communication with parents about children's progress. I recently called to cancel a lesson and was told that I needed to give more notice etc, but there is a clear lack of information as to the actual policy and I can not find actual opening times on their website.
I'm looking at a different swim school to see if my child is assessed differently and maybe more often.

We went on a Monday night and to my surprise it was packed! The food was better than expected and so was the authenticity. The prices were reasonable, but we tasted the food, we knew it was worth the value. The beef rendang was very tender and although on the spicier side begs you to take another mouthful. The mee goreng was average, but does remind you of the hawker stalls in Malaysia. If you ever want to brave the traffic and lack of parking spaces in Glen Waverley, Petaling Street is the place to go.

This review is for Skywood Blinds, Wheelers Hill VIC

verified email - 08 Apr 2011

Jun was recommended to us by our neighbours because they were very happy with the quality of Skywood's product. We had purchased an apartment and required double roller blinds. I had contacted several online blinds suppliers, but since we had very high floor to ceiling windows we needed the blinds to be customised and it wasn't a job we could have easily done ourselves. Jun spent the time with us showing us the different fabrics. After we placed our order they were ready in a week! Then they spent 4 hours fitting our blinds and did not charge us additional cost for doing so. Skywood was also half the cost of a large blinds manufacturer who advertise as having the lowest prices.

This review is for Simon's Peiking Duck, Box Hill South VIC

We arrived at Simon's on a Friday, quite excited as we heard he was back in business. We knew and had tasted his fare at Old Kingdom in Smith St, Collingwood. The restaurant was packed and some who had not made a booking had to be turned away. We had the three courses of duck - peking duck, the stir fry duck with bean shoots and duck soup. Although, not the best atmosphere or value for money the peking duck is worth the occasional treat.

This review is for Energywatch, Melbourne VIC

I called Energywatch as I have seen their ads on TV, to obtain a recommendation for a cheaper energy company. They recommended an electricity supplier, which was "the best" for my area. I then visited another comparison website and spoke to yet another and they suggested a electricity retailer that was much cheaper than the one Energywatch recommended. The retailer Energywatch recommended was a larger company, but their prices were rated #23 out of 30 other plans. Energywatch also receives commission from the retailers they recommend unlike the other ones. I would not recommend using Energywatch.

This review is for Hoa Tran, Springvale VIC

verified email - 18 Feb 2011

Hoa Tran is my favourite restaurant out of all the others we have encountered in our Springvale odyssey. The food is excellent, the atmosphere bustling. I always order the red rice with stir-fried beef, which sounds ordinary, but is in fact very tasty. I love the concept of red rice, a good rival to just plain steamed rice and Hoa Tran does the red rice very well. I also always order the iced coffee with black pearls, which is a lovely and exciting way to drink coffee. We are looking forward to heading back there again.

This review is for Nam Son 1, Springvale VIC

We decided to eat here and escape the busy Springvale hub. The first thing, you'll notice is that the place is clean and bright. Then you will notice that the wait staff is very attentive till the point you wonder whether you're in a Springvale-style Viet restaurant. Given the former, you would expect that the food to be excellent, but it was average. The grilled pork chop that came with the traditional broken rice seemed like someone had taken to it with a mallet to make it appeared larger than it was. It was not filling for my male companion. I had the bun thit neung (grilled pork and vermicelli), the humoungous bowl it came in was filled with vermicelli, but the pork portion was small. Given that times are tight, maybe they should be given another chance?

This review is for China Bar, Glen Waverley VIC

verified email - 18 Feb 2011

We ate at China Bar one rainy night. This restaurant is good if you are pressed for time and want to gulp down your food and exit. It's not the place for you to dry off, enjoy your tea and hot dinner and conversational partner. The interior is crammed with furniture and not at all comfortable.

I ordered the wonton noodle soup, which tasted good thanks to the overuse of MSG. One bite into the wontons makes you suspicious about what is actually in them. My companion had the crispy skin pork on rice, which he rated as borderline satisfactory.

Overall, I would say if you're looking for a cheap Asian meal, try one of the other restaurants in Kingsway.

This review is for Western Lawyers, St Albans VIC

verified email - 24 Jan 2011

We engaged Western Lawyers as our conveyancer on a property purchase. They were very slow to respond to our questions, emails and requests. Sometimes, they did not respond at all. Their customer service was poor as they never kept us up to date even when there was no news. I would have appreciated it and recommended their service if they kept in communication with us throughout the process. They also did not properly introduce us to who was handling our case. Instead several people were replying to my emails. I felt insecure in the quality of the service/ information they were providing and thus their credibility diminished in my eyes. Poor service and lack of information!

We had dinner in the Bistro area. The environment was as what you expect in a pub. It was dimly lit, but definitely not romantic! There is a play area to entertain the kids, but can be a distraction from their meals as they'd rather play than eat!

I had the fish and chips. Surprisingly it wasn't too greasy, which was what I liked about it. My friend had a medium steak, which was tough and unappealing. For the quality of the food, the price you pay is appalling. Too much for such average food. Honestly, I hope I'm never going to be dragged in there by friends again! I know other pubs with better food and pricing with the same amenities.
