To be critical, a lot of modern day riders don't really understand the engine training value of working out on a fixed gear bike.

With fixed gear training, your physiology has to compensate, adjust, figure out how to produce power at all cadences and loads as the pressure builds, rather than changing gears, so riders breathe more deeply or just work a lot harder to cope and avoid slowing down when confronted with the strain demands.
