I wrote a review on this business some 18 months ago. It still is a "hidden gem" in the ballarat dining scene.

We have become regulars here (most unusual for my wife who is somewhat picky in her choice of restaurants), and can again recommend the BIR most highly for its great food, well-priced, and friendly front-of-house staff.

Takeaway trade is also brisk suggesting that locals have come to recognise that they can get a very good meal at a very good price.

The grapevine tells us that the BIR is about to relocate to the top end of Bridge mall - near McDonalds and other restaurants in downrown Ballarat. We are confident that they will do well there also.

But we'll do a review when they have settled in to their new home

For quality food, friendly service, modest prices, licensed and BYO, pleasant ambience... the Ballarat Indian Restaurant ticks all of the boxes.
A genuine family (Indian) run restaurant, with a real tandoor oven, and great staff who will greet you with a smile whether you are dining in or taking their delicious food away.
You must try the Kashmiri chicken (superb!), the Goan Fish Curry (deliciously different), and their naan bread (best this side of Mumbai).
Prices are modest, wine selection good with realistic prices (also BYO)... this is a seriously good restaurant where parking is easy just near the Eureka Stockade Park.
We are well-travelled, hard-to-please locals who come back to this restaurant time and time again. Take our word for it you will enjoy a great meal at a cost that won't have you calling the Bank Manager !!

Approximate cost: $14

This is a hidden gem in the Ballarat eating-out scene.

Easy to find, easy to park, friendly staff, great food, great value and a pleasant ambience about the restaurant decor.
We've been many times and never have had a bad experience. Their tandoori-cooked chicken is superb (try the Kashmiri chicken, for example), and their naan breads are tops. Yes, this is a REAL tandoor, not the orange paste that some places cover their food with and call it 'Tandoori"
The restaurant is licensed (very modest pricing) or BYO.

This family -run restaurant sees Neeru and her son at front of house providing service with a smile, with the father/husband tucked away in the kitchen providing always-very good dishes.
While the street presence of the Ballarat Indian Restaurant could do with a little work, once inside, you'll love it like we do. Whether you live in Ballarat or are a visitor in one of the nearby motels or caravan park, you won't \beat this place for a great meal at modest cost. Try it, and I'll be surprised if you don't become a regular customer like we are.
Their takeaways also are very, very popular.

Naming a fine dining restaurant in Ballarat is a challenge. But there is one recent addition, The Ballaarat, that is certainly worth a visit.

Set in the gracious building that still (upstairs) houses the venerable Ballaarat Club, this restaurant scores well on most counts.

Setting is grand withgout being over the top. prices are very competitive and the extensive wine list well-priced also. When we were there recently the menu ranged from $28 for the prosciutto and herb rolled loin of pork to $38 for the fillet of beef. The pepper-crusted swordfish (at $30) was excellent value and well-cooked.

Wines ordered by the glass were poured at the table (most restaurants take note).

Run by Jernnifer and Stephen Wright (who have conducted the very successful Sails Restaurant at the Ballarat Yacht Club for the past eight years, The Ballaarat fills a big hole in the local scene if you want to have a fine meal in gracious, quiet surroundings.

Before or after your meal you can relax in front of an open fire on a leather chesterfield in an adjoing casual bar area.

Ballarat has at last gained another fine restaurant to add to its small base of those that could be called that.

Approximate cost: $28-$38
