As far as my tastes go this is Yum Cha worth travelling interstate for. Wine was a little pricey, but it went well with all the tasty treats that came out of the kitchen. We had a table right next to the kitchen, and I would recommend you do too - as the food was lovely and hot. It was very noisy (lunchtime), but the trade off is a wide range. They make tea based cocktails, very tasty and way too easy to drink - just shy of $100 for 2 x cocktail, wine and enough yum cha to have to waddle out. Service was very friendly, not attentive as there were so many people, but the care with which our cocktails were made was top notch (waitress came back to chat about them and get our opinions)

This place is hard to describe - Czech/middle European "home-cooked" pub type fare is about the closest I can get. Some dishes are more adventurous than others and they are very proud of the seafood dishes. Definitely worth a try if you want something different. I had the goulash and my partner the cevapci. Small cafe, but was not busy when we were there (one other couple). Service gets rated down as the waiter was busy on his mobile yelling at his phone company, and he seemed harried even after that. Still not enough to deter us from going back, as he was friendly otherwise. Dessert was home made tiramisu, although it was a tad dry its still nice to see them try. If you like simple tasty fare this might be the right spot for you.

Revisited 22/2/2011 - revised the star rating to reflect the better service. But would like to see the wine cheaper

Got a hankering for something special, and a good deal of $, then head to Moorilla. Have only been here for lunches and an adult ed course so I cannot comment on dinner. Lunch is fairly structure free and you can order as many dishes as you like depending on how hungry you are. Be warned serving sizes are quite small so its easy to eat through a few. Desserts are very rich and tasty, food is impeccable and has a very heavy Tasmanian focus. Views of the river are great. There is a lot of construction type work going on at the moment (they are building a museum), so check on that before you book. You can water taxi from Hobart Wharf, or go on a ferry tour out there. Something unusual but highly recommended is to take the cycleway from town and grab desert & a glass of wine. For two you should be under $50 and its a real treat!

Not a bad activity to kill some time. Course is a good balance, not too hard/not too easy. Unless you are a mini-golf nut one of the 18 holes courses is plenty (they have an indoor and outdoor). Outdoor is great when the weather is good. You will often find vouchers for this place and I only go when I have one (entertainment book, sometimes shopper-dockets and they have a little brochure at the tourist places - like Hobart airport which will get you two for one on 18 holes). They do have snacks there, but they look fairly uninspiring. There is tasty icecream which would makes a suitable reward for the victor however (although I loose more than win!). On a main bus route from the CBD and on the same route as Kawasemi Japanese Teahouse (about 10-15 minutes walk). They get 4 stars for service as they were more than willing to pop our wine in their fridge before we headed off to a BYO restuarant.

Book ahead for this one. It used to be a "local secret", but now the word is out and if you rock up without a booking you are unlikely to get a table (I have been turned away twice). There are so many good things about this place its hard to know what to mention first. Probably the free corkage (its BYO) - no need to bring a bottle from home. There is a 9/11 Bottleshop to the rear (and right of the arcade). It has a bigger range than the other bottleshop and is cheaper. Interior is very cute and its like being in someone house. Its amazing just how much food they can make in the tiny kitchen. Bento box is highly recommended as too is the french/japanese hybrid desserts. Every now and then the chef seems to practice new deserts - so it might be worth asking is there is something thats not normally on the menu (special dessert). The food is filling and unpretensious. You can get a bit of a wait when its really busy so just be prepared for that. Oh and don't worry that you have found the wrong spot, Kawasemi is in the middle of a little shopping arcade in one of the suburbs you would least expect it. Good bus service from Hobart city (its on a main bus route) although of an evening be sure to time it right as the buses are about 30 mins apart.

There is so much more this place could have been (Hobart is short on decent Chinese). The decor in this place is great, and so are the dumplings - but thats where it ends sadly. We went to Yum Cha and waited a long time to be seated in an half full restaurant. No sign of trolleys, normally this means you get an alacarte type yum cha menu - but we were left guessing about what the arrangement was in place until we eventually got annoyed and had to wave them over after 15-20 mins to explain it to us. Some food did come out on plates to choose from, but the food was cold (rather than hot as they should be). Wine was way too expensive.I have heard that dinner is a better affair, but I am not taking any chances by going back. I hope if you do go you have a much better experience than me. I just wish it was the Launceston Me Wah

There are not many Chinese restaurants in Hobart that are worth visiting. This one is probably one of the best ones if you are looking for an upmarket night out. I like that the menu is not as Europeonised as I expected. The main serves could be a bit bigger given the price of them. The deepfried squid with five salts was ordinary and not worth getting, it seemed like it had been cooked at too low a temperature. The twice cooked pork was great, and had a depth of taste the surprised me, and it was the kind of slow spicy that burns over time in a pleasant way. Service was very, very friendly but slow. Make a point of reading the books they have near the toilets they are very interesting. Restaurant is an old house, with lots of nooks and crannies so plenty of atmosphere. The house wine is a steal at $16 a bottle.

This review is for Heat Woodfired Pizzas, Lindisfarne TAS

Pizzas are really lovely, and there is not really too many negative things I can say about this place. They make a great desert pizza with banana, brown sugar and another ingredient that has slipped my mind. Perhaps the only thing is that the dessert pizza tended to be a bit cold. If its nice weather its well worth picking up a bottle of wine, a take away pizza and heading down derwent avenue (turn left at natone street). There is a little park that you can eat your pizza, and if its an evening you can get an amazing view of the derwent bridge all lit up.

This review refers to the Hobart Pizza Hut in Newtown (dine in). If you go here before 5pm you are probably going to get the best value for your money (lunch prices). But there are a number of problems with this place - the soft serve machine NEVER works, the place is messy and tends to be packed and the pizzas are served on the warmer that has a hot element above the pizza, the gap is just large enough to get your hand in, and burnt. Do yourself a big favour and hit one of the local pizza places up. It may be more expensive, but you will get a much better meal

I am a big fan of this place, as I regularly do lunch there. I have gone of an evening, but I think its a little pricey of a night. There lunch deal went up about 6 months ago. Its now $30 for two courses, or $35 for three this includes a glass of wine if you are solo and a whole bottle if there is two people (not sure how it works with more). Menu for lunch special is limited but its a really outstanding deal. Whatever you do, eat the fudge they serve. I have seen people leave it behind and it just makes me cry - the fudge is lovely!
